Zhan Yan was crouching at the entrance, chatting incredibly happily with the Black Wolf and Bai Po. Midway through their happy chat, his legs started to feel a bit numb. After shifting his posture, his blood circulation returned slightly, instantly triggering that pins-and-needles sensation of combined itchiness and numbness that left him too afraid to move.

He attempted to stand up. “Sss…”

He had crouched for too long; he genuinely couldn’t get up anymore QAQ.

Glimpsing the large sofa and coffee table not far away, Zhan Yan felt that crouching here made him look like an absolute idiot.

Trembling as he tried to stand, he leaned against the wall, shuffling along while asking the Black Wolf and Bai Po, “Why aren’t you guys sitting down?”

The Black Wolf and Bai Po fell silent simultaneously.

Although crouching at the entrance meant they couldn’t hear what was being discussed inside anyway, they had instinctively stopped at the point closest to the door.

Ah… this kind of psychological habit is truly so annoying.

The Black Wolf asked, “What’s wrong with you?”

While the two powerhouses rose smoothly from the entrance, Zhan Yan was still doubled over, propping himself up against the wall.

Zhan Yan replied, “Crouched for too long, my legs went numb.”

Bai Po arched an eyebrow, asking him in disbelief, “Legs numb? How could your legs go numb?”

The two powerhouses each took a side, hoisting him up and tossing him onto the sofa.

Not daring to move his legs, Zhan Yan grimaced as he wiggled around to find a comfortable spot, then froze.

“Isn’t it completely normal for my legs to go numb? Crouching for a long time cuts off blood circulation. All ordinary people are like this.”

The Black Wolf countered, “You can already vault onto a rooftop, yet you still claim to be an ordinary person?”

Zhan Yan smacked his lips with a trace of nostalgia. “I don’t know how I jumped up there either.”

Recalling it now, that feeling of freedom was truly incredibly awesome. Unfortunately, he was completely incapable of doing it now.

Bai Po pondered, “Could this be the legendary burst of adrenaline in emergency situations? I’ve heard tales of people lifting an entire truck.”

…What kind of WeChat public account clickbait articles had the Sky-Howling Wolf King been reading?

“No, we ordinary humans don’t have that kind of ability,” Zhan Yan explained.

The Black Wolf waved it off, “Who cares if they do or don’t. Since you managed it once, you can definitely do it a second time.” He was highly interested in Zhan Yan now. “Come on, let’s try again!”

A child of the Tianshi’s family naturally ought to possess combat capabilities! It was fine for the other two siblings to be ordinary people, but since this one had already stepped into the extraordinary world, he absolutely needed to be trained up!

Zhan Yan’s legs were still numb. “There’s really no need for that. My physical stamina truly is just that of an ordinary person.”

It wasn’t as if he hadn’t tried. When following his parents over earlier, he hadn’t been able to resist sneaking a few experimental hops while trailing behind them. However, he found that his jumping ability didn’t seem to have improved at all; he completely couldn’t find that sensation of leaping over ten meters in a single bound.

He had merely hopped those two times, yet his parents’ footsteps had both undergone a subtle pause, and the Gossip System immediately began refreshing with notifications about how they both thought their youngest son was incredibly adorable. After that, Zhan Yan hadn’t dared to hop around anymore, following them obediently and properly.

Bai Po sneered at the “ordinary person” argument. “Being able to do it means it wasn’t a coincidence. None of us even knew your parents’ true identities, yet you figured it out yourself, and here you are talking about being an ‘ordinary person,’ humph.”

Zhan Yan argued righteously, “Information gathering and combat are two entirely separate categories, alright?” His legs weren’t as numb now, so he began slowly stretching them out to loosen up. “We information-types are completely harmless, fragile little glass cannons.”

He didn’t intend to hide his identity as an extraordinary capability user from these people anymore; it wasn’t something he could keep hidden anyway.

The Black Wolf couldn’t help but immediately think of the forum entity Approaching Science. Both he and the Great Wu Music had been thoroughly screwed over by that account.

“Information-type…” He snorted. “Information-types being harmless is a load of—”

Before the final word could leave his mouth, Bai Po slapped him hard across the back of his head.

Watch your foul language. Just wait and see if Chongming and the Tianshi don’t beat the crap out of you once they come out.

Ning Xi had just finished handling a portion of his urgent official tasks. Turning his attention back to monitor the situation here, he happened to overhear Zhan Yan’s incredibly innocent phrase, “harmless, fragile little glass cannon.”

Holding Zhan Yan’s profile documents, he said to the Black Wolf with a brewing headache, “Ask him how he found out about his parents’ identities.”

So this was the child Ji Yueming constantly flaunted to them… Back when her eldest son and second daughter were in school, she used to show them off frequently too. Later, when one opened a bakery and the other started an art studio, Ji Yueming stopped bragging—she was terrified her overly curious colleagues would actually drop by to purchase things. Consequently, her youngest son, the only one left available to flaunt, became a frequent topic in her conversations.

As expected of the smart and clever youngest son praised by the Tianshi herself. Isn’t this being a bit too clever?

The Black Wolf asked, “How did you find out about the identities of the Tianshi and Chongming?”

Zhan Yan decided to add another layer of insurance for his parents. Since his parents’ cover had already been blown, there was no need to keep hiding his own identity within this small circle.

He flashed an apologetic smile at the Black Wolf. “Actually… I am Approaching Science.”

If you guys ever want to commit misdeeds, I’ll be able to know everything~ Whosoever tries to tear my parents apart, I’ll expose their dark history!

Ning Xi felt dizzy and vision-blurred from this sudden new bombshell.

Bai Po came to a sudden realization. “Oh, so you’re that little fan of Chongming who simultaneously fans the Tianshi.”

The Black Wolf’s wolfish eyes widened dramatically. “So you’re the one who instigated my little nephew to blacklist me?!”

Zhan Yan: “…”

“It was clearly you yourself who provoked and annoyed Bai Ji! What does that have to do with me?!”

The Black Wolf huffed, “Hmph, you…”

“What are you humping about?” Ji Yueming pushed open the door.

Zhan Yunkai stood right beside her. Two pairs of eyes fixed simultaneously onto the Black Wolf.

The Black Wolf’s wolf ears shwip snapped out instantly. “Nothing, just a tickle in my throat.”

Zhan Yan had already bounced up. “Dad, Mom, you’re done talking!~” He trotted over, looking at them with shining eyes, a stray lock of his curly hair draping softly against his cheek.

Ji Yueming smoothed his hair. “We’re done talking. Everything is fine.”

Ning Xi sighed through the communicator, “Give the communicator to her.”

The Black Wolf handed Ji Yueming the communicator she had left outside earlier.

Ji Yueming patted her son’s head again. “I’m going to have a chat with the Vice-Director. You go with…” Her gaze shifted over to Zhan Yunkai.

Zhan Yunkai stared at the communicator. “I’ll go with you.” He wanted to have a chat with Ning Xi as well.

Bai Po raised an arm. “Go ahead.”

The husband and wife re-entered the room.

The Black Wolf hadn’t retracted his ears yet. He stared at Zhan Yan, who was acting sweet toward his parents, his ears twisting awkwardly atop his head.

So this is Approaching Science? That new information-type powerhouse on the forum who didn’t allow people to dig up info and would explode into a frenzy the moment anyone teased him. Tsk, look at this act of playing dumb and acting cute…

Bai Po stared at his ears. “I’ve been meaning to ask for a while now, what is up with your ears?”

The Black Wolf’s expression shifted instantly as he covered his ears. “It’s nothing.”

However, Zhan Yan’s curiosity had already been piqued. He stared at the Black Wolf’s ears—even though they were currently covered, he still remembered how they looked a moment ago. Two upright wolf ears with pure black fur, boasting an excellent sheen that looked highly healthy at a glance. They seemed completely fine.

Zhan Yan opened his Gossip System and initiated a search using the keywords “Black Wolf” and “ears.”

[ Geng Xiu, Deputy Captain of the Seventh Squadron of the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau, sighs while dyeing the fur of Black Wolf’s right ear: “Captain, your fur grows way too fast. It hasn’t even been a month since your last dye job.” ]

Zhan Yan: Huh, huh, huh? The Black Wolf’s ears are dyed?!

He kept scrolling back through the gossip logs!

Oh oh! The Black Wolf didn’t have pure black fur across his entire body; he had inherited a trait of the Sky-Howling Wolves in one of his ears—his right ear naturally possessed pure, silver-white fur. The Black Wolf believed that having one white ear and one black ear looked far too foolish, so ever since joining the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau, he had consistently dyed his fur.

As the formidable Captain of the Seventh Squadron, a Black Wolf renowned for his fierce bravery, what would it look like if his ears popped out during the height of a chaotic battle and one was black while the other was white!

Zhan Yan couldn’t resist staring in wonder at the Black Wolf’s head, trying to peek through the gaps of his fingers at the exposed bits of wolf ear. One black, one white… what exactly would that look like?

His expression was far too obvious. The Black Wolf turned his head and shot him an annoyed glare.

This is exactly why information-types are so damn annoying! Give them the slightest sliver of a clue, and they can unearth absolutely everything.

Awooo. He truly couldn’t do anything to this kid. Approaching Science would expose someone’s embarrassing history at the slightest disagreement, and the boy now had two supreme powerhouses backing him up…

Of course, the most detestable one was still Bai Po!

Clutching his ears, the Black Wolf shifted his glare over to Bai Po. What are you shouting blindly for? You spend all day protecting and combing your fur, so what’s wrong with me dyeing mine?

Bai Po stared wistfully at the small patch of fur peeking through the gaps of the Black Wolf’s right fingers. He absolutely adored that little wolf ear that looked exactly like his own. Sigh, children grow up and become rebellious…

“Don’t go spouting nonsense,” the Black Wolf retracted his wolf ears completely. “I’ll help you keep an eye on the bureau’s trends.”

Zhan Yan raised a palm with a bright smile. “Deal.”

The Black Wolf high-fived him, then began baring his fangs at the muttering Bai Po.

With the grandfather-grandson conflict erupting, they temporarily lacked the leisure to investigate how Zhan Yan had vaulted onto a three-story rooftop. Zhan Yan continued quietly browsing through his gossip logs. On one hand, he monitored the negotiation progress between his parents and Ning Xi, and on the other hand, he checked up on how Xiao Gu was faring.

Ning Xi was truly living up to his reputation. Based on Zhan Yan’s reactions and the fact that the Tianshi and Chongming had sought him out together, he had pretty much deduced the conclusion of the couple’s discussion.

He efficiently skipped the preceding steps and dove straight into pushing forward: “Regarding the Huangshiling Ghost Village incident, the Fengyue Island Dragon Pillars, and the Bixia Nature Reserve matters, how about we renegotiate our cooperation plan?”

Zhan Yunkai found a bellyful of words abruptly choked back.

He turned his head to look at Ji Yueming. “Is he always such a workaholic?”

Without asking about his and Ji Yueming’s situation, or about Zhan Yan’s situation, he had dove straight into the cooperation between the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau and the Wan Yao Alliance. Weren’t there far too many steps skipped in the middle?

Ji Yueming smiled at him. “You’ll get used to it.”

“I believe our current understanding aligns sufficiently to bypass complicated and meaningless preliminary steps,” Ning Xi stated calmly.

Since Zhan Yan would tell them he was Approaching Science, it was impossible for him not to tell his own parents. Once Ji Yueming knew who Approaching Science was, she would undoubtedly discuss it with the Chongming Demon King. Now that she could bring Zhan Yunkai along to negotiate, it proved the two had reached a tacit understanding.

As for Ning Xi, he understood what kind of person the Tianshi was. All of his prior anxiety and uncertainty lay in his lack of understanding regarding the Chongming Demon King. Now, it was simply a matter of the Tianshi and the Chongming Demon King choosing to continue living their lives peacefully together, while hoping the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau and the Wan Yao Alliance could align as much as possible, avoiding major conflicts even if frictions occurred.

In that case, the next step was cooperation. The ongoing mission incidents he highlighted were all linked to the Wan Yao Alliance, yet wouldn’t cause substantial friction between the two factions. They were perfect for breaking the ice.

Zhan Yunkai: …Unsurprisingly, once one adapted to this rhythm, it felt quite refreshing.

Things were progressing smoothly on his parents’ side. Meanwhile, Xiao Gu had already successfully obtained Di Ting’s single horn.

Watching the gossip notification of Gu Jiancheng carrying Di Ting’s horn to seek out Wan Yan, Zhan Yan let out a sigh of relief.

Xiao Gu’s efficiency was truly unmatched!

[Lin Yuan Ghost King Zhan Jinli is immensely grateful to Deep Shadow Gu Jiancheng, yet still finds Deep Shadow’s recent attitude a bit too friendly, which feels somewhat bizarre. ]
