GRMFBS CH270
Zhan Yunkai’s wings, fully spread, froze. The spells that had been swirling around them, ready to be unleashed in the next instant, also solidified.
He bent his elegant neck to stare at the youngest son clinging to his leg.
Just a moment ago, his son had suddenly appeared from the courtyard, darting up like a cat, and then hugging his leg like a monkey. If he hadn’t been using his double pupils and realized it was Zhan Yan, he would have swatted the kid away in mid-air.
After the surprise and shock of his son’s sudden appearance, Zhan Yunkai didn’t even have time to be amazed at how his son had managed to jump up here before he was stunned by that earth-shattering shout.
What does that mean? Why is he having trouble understanding it?
Yan-yan called him “Dad”—that was fine—but how did Yan-yan know he was his father? He was currently in his true form. And who was Yan-yan calling “Mom”? The Tianshi?!
Zhan Yunkai looked up at the Tianshi opposite him, surrounded by lightning, thunder rumbling overhead, and preparing to strike him down.
Yueming?
No, no… or did Yan-yan secretly find his biological parents, and was he the Tianshi’s long-lost child?
Thunder crackled against Ji Yueming’s skin, and the thunderous energy that had originally gathered into storm clouds in the sky had stopped following Zhan Yan’s earth-shattering shout. The blue electric light was frozen in the clouds, like a scene suddenly hitting the pause button.
The scene was terrifyingly silent.
Ji Yueming stared intently at the cub clinging to the Chongming Demon King’s leg. The sea of thunder that was about to erupt was abruptly halted.
It was definitely her Yan-yan.
Yan-yan calling him “Mom” was correct, but why was he hugging the Chongming Demon King’s leg? And what had he just shouted?
“Don’t move, this is Dad”? Who was his dad? The Chongming Demon King?!
Ji Yueming looked up at the Chongming Demon King, who was spreading his wings and preparing to take off.
Old Zhan?
Could it be that Yan-yan had secretly found his biological parents, and he was the Chongming Demon King’s long-lost… No, no, Yan-yan wasn’t a half-demon… but then again, how did he jump from the ground directly onto the roof ridge? And she was wearing a mask, so how did Yan-yan recognize her?
Chongming… Old Zhan?
Not far away, the Black Wolf lay on top of the giant silver wolf’s head, staring at the scene in shock: “Ah? What is going on?”
Bai Po: “I don’t know… You brat, get off my head!”
He had only been shocked for a split second, and this insolent brat had already climbed onto his head. Bai Po shook his head, trying to shake him off.
The Black Wolf grabbed his great-grandfather’s head hair: “Don’t bother me, the view is good. Don’t you want to know what’s going on? That kid hugging Chongming’s leg must be the Tianshi’s youngest son. How did he end up on Chongming?”
Bai Po stopped: “What?! Isn’t that Chongming’s youngest son?”
Bai Po rolled his eyes to look up at his great-grandson, and the Black Wolf looked down at his great-grandfather. Both pairs of wolf eyes were as wide as they could be.
Black Wolf: “Our Tianshi has a civilian alter-ego and got married…”
Bai Po: “Chongming has a civilian identity too and got married…”
“Awoo!”
Two shocked wolf howls overlapped, breaking the silence.
Zhan Yunkai and Ji Yueming’s gazes were drawn over. The Black Wolf buried himself in Bai Po’s fur: “Nothing, nothing.” Bai Po tucked his head behind the house: “You two continue.”
Fortunately, fortunately, the big shots had cleared the area in advance. They were the only two who dared to watch at close range, and apart from the parties involved, only they had heard that shout—along with Ning Xi, who was off-site.
Ning Xi was frantic, but since he was too far away, there was nothing he could do but plead. The Tianshi had even turned off her communicator; he was currently nagging incessantly through the Black Wolf’s device.
The Black Wolf whispered to him: “Don’t worry, they aren’t going to fight.”
Ning Xi: ?
“What happened?”
Black Wolf: “Vice-Director, keep it together.”
Ning Xi took a deep breath and said calmly: “I can take it, go ahead.”
Black Wolf: “Didn’t you think about an alliance through marriage with the Wan Yao Alliance before?”
Ning Xi: “Ah?” (He had only been joking with Da Wuyue).
Black Wolf: “Congratulations, that goal has already been achieved.”
Ning Xi: Ahhh?
“Wait a second! What do you mean?!”
On the roof ridge, Zhan Yunkai slowly retracted his wings, bending his neck to look at his youngest son still clinging to his leg.
“Yan-yan, get down first.”
The Chongming divine bird’s leg was thicker than Zhan Yan’s waist; he was clinging to his dad like a tree, and he hugged even tighter.
Zhan Yan had a mournful face: “Dad… I can’t get down…”
He had been so anxious that he didn’t know how he had managed to leap up here. It was a sloped roof, and if he dared to let go, he would slide right off. It was a three-story building, over ten meters high!
Zhan Yunkai: …
He glanced secretly at the Tianshi. The Tianshi wasn’t sparking with lightning anymore, and she had landed in the courtyard, looking up at him. Although he couldn’t see her expression behind the mask… the fact that the Tianshi stopped because of Yan-yan’s shout meant… that really is his wife, right?
Ji Yueming stood with her hands in her sleeves, looking up at her youngest son clinging to the Chongming Demon King’s leg. It’s fine, he definitely won’t fall.
Chongming Demon King… Old Zhan…
He certainly had that same style of good looks; otherwise, she wouldn’t have thought to give Chongming Demon King’s feathers as a gift to Old Zhan back in the day. He could sing and dance, no wonder his voice was so pleasant.
An eighteen-tier bit-part actor—tsk, he really knew how to hide it…
Zhan Yunkai bent his neck, picked up his youngest son with his beak, and gently placed him on the ground. He strategically placed him next to the Tianshi, his massive divine bird head stopping right in front of her, meeting her gaze across Zhan Yan’s shoulder.
The eyes behind the mask were no longer obscured by lightning, and the dignity of the Demon King faded from the double pupils. Two pairs of complex-looking eyes gazed at each other, seeing something familiar in the other’s eyes… it was indeed her/him.
Zhan Yan had experienced a feeling of flight, and an inappropriate thought drifted through his over-stressed brain: Can Dad fly me around in the future?
No, no, no! Zhan Yan shook his head violently. The point right now was his parents’ hidden identities…
The situation had been too critical; if he had come out one second later, his parents would have started fighting. In his anxiety, he had stripped away both of their secret identities at once…
Now… now… boo-hoo, what to do? None of the emergency plans for identity exposure he had brainstormed in the past covered this situation!
Zhan Yan adjusted his clothes, which had been ruffled by his dad’s beak, and asked timidly: “Uh, can we go somewhere else to talk?”
Ten minutes later, in a secret base near the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau.
Bai Po: “Why does your Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau have secret bases everywhere?”
Black Wolf: “Isn’t this to give you a front-row seat to the gossip?”
They didn’t get to watch; the grandfather and grandson were kicked out.
In the communicator, Ning Xi’s voice was calm: “I can’t see what’s happening; did you suddenly suffer a grievous injury?”
Black Wolf: “Vice-Director, I know you’re anxious, but please don’t be—because I’m anxious too.”
Bai Po transformed into a handsome silver-haired young man and leaned over to the communicator, sounding sarcastic: “Isn’t this the famous Vice-Director Ning, who likes to stick his nose into everything and steal other people’s kids?”
The Black Wolf pushed his head away: “Go away! You look younger than me in human form, how do you have the nerve to be my great-grandfather?”
Vice-Director Ning was burning with anxiety, desperate to know what was going on. What was going on with the Tianshi? What about Chongming? And what about their youngest son?
On top of that, he still had to deal with the farmhouse situation; he still hadn’t figured out what was up with that special Candle Dragon remnant. Although he had accidentally achieved an “alliance” milestone, he couldn’t feel happy about it!
Would the Tianshi and the Chongming Demon King start arguing? If they argue, won’t they start fighting? And if they start fighting…
Heaven preserve us, let the Chongming Demon King be a love-struck fool!
Inside the room, Ji Yueming was wearing her Tianshi robe, her mask removed and placed on the table. Opposite her, Zhan Yunkai had returned to his human form, sitting there with dignity and composure.
Zhan Yan sat on the side between the two of them, obediently looking down at the table, frantically scrolling through the “gossip feeds” to see what his parents were thinking… but he couldn’t see all of them. QAQ
The “big shots” had thoughts as deep as the sea.
Ji Yueming looked at Zhan Yunkai. A Demon King in human form, unmasked—his exquisite beauty was almost breathtaking. What was most special were those double pupils. The whites of his eyes were clear, the irises were dark, and the central pupils were pitch black; there was a tiny, secondary black pupil on the upper-outer side, partially overlapping, like a dark-ink highlight. There was a thin golden thread around the outer edge of the pupils.
Strange and beautiful.
What a loss.
She had spent over twenty years seeing less of this beautiful face. She used to think Old Zhan really only liked acting casually and didn’t want to be famous. Now it seemed acting was just his cover. Is Mingtang Film Industry a property of the Wan Yao Alliance?
Old Zhan’s acting skills… for twenty years, she hadn’t noticed a thing. Old Zhan couldn’t have been pretending to be a bad actor on purpose, could he?
A Demon King of the Wan Yao Alliance… headache. The Chongming Demon King had always hated the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau. Neither of them could ever possibly leave their respective organizations. Their operating styles had always been different. Like old trees with tangled, deep-seated roots, they couldn’t be easily changed; at most, they could try to coordinate.
She wondered what Old Zhan was thinking right now…
Zhan Yunkai looked at Ji Yueming.
Ahhh, his wife in her Tianshi robe looked completely different from his usual wife!
The Tianshi robe suited her so well. Her hand resting on the mask was so dominant, and her expressionless demeanor was so imposing! Thinking back to the sea of lightning and the low-hanging clouds—all of that had been his wife’s background.
His wife is so cool! His wife is so dashing! His wife is so amazing!
But why was his wife in the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau…
He actually never noticed… Yueming was so good at hiding it. So, was the company she guarded an Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau asset? Yueming must have been working overtime every time she went on a “business trip.”
Tsk, the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau…
It was impossible to poach Yueming for the Wan Yao Alliance. There would likely be a lot of cooperation with the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau in the future. They wouldn’t affect his relationship with Yueming, would they?
Headache.
[Tianshi Ji Yueming didn’t know how to start the conversation, so she decided to ask you first.]
[Chongming Demon King Zhan Yunkai didn’t know how to explain, so he decided to use you to change the subject.]
Ji Yueming: “Yan-yan…”
Zhan Yunkai: “Yan-yan…”
Zhan Yan: …You two are really in sync as a married couple.
The couple looked at each other, and Ji Yueming spoke first: “Is there anything else you’ve been hiding from us?”
Zhan Yunkai added: “How did you know all of this?”
What else could he do? Their identities had already been unmasked face-to-face.
Might as well confess.
Zhan Yan gave a small cough: “Uh… well, actually… it’s because… I’m ‘Approaching Science’…”
