FIMA Ch6: The Competition

“Hmph!” Hearing this, Shan Kai gritted his teeth, his heart tightening slightly. The importance of the unified sports exam to sports students was self-evident.

But backing down just like this would obviously damage his status as the boss.

At this moment, he happened to catch a glimpse of Xie Qingxiao, who still looked completely out of it. Thus, he immediately assumed Gu Siyuan was just some hot-blooded teenager who had a crush on Xie Qingxiao and was using Shen Ting’s absence to play the hero in front of the Omega. He immediately sneered, “Trying to stick your nose into other people’s business? Does he even know you?”

“Take a guess.” Gu Siyuan squeezed his right hand slightly harder, his expression still not showing the slightest ripple.

Xie Qingxiao raised his eyes, gave Gu Siyuan a steady look, and then looked at the group of bad influences beside Shan Kai, who were still itching to rush up and help. His heart tightened slightly.

Remembering Shen Ting’s unhesitating back when he left earlier, he immediately felt a sense of reckless despair. He forced a bitter smile and urged, “Gu Siyuan, this has nothing to do with you… You should go first…”

He said this, but he didn’t really mean it in his heart. His momentum was visibly lacking, looking as if he was about to burst into tears at any second.

Gu Siyuan raised an eyebrow.

If he really turned around and left right now, it was hard not to believe that Xie Qingxiao would immediately start crying out loud.

While fiercely holding Shan Kai hostage, he took two strides with his long legs and arrived in front of Xie Qingxiao. His left hand lifted Xie Qingxiao’s chin, the soft and tender flesh of his cheeks squeezed into a cute shape by the large hand.

“Alphas are born with the responsibility to protect Omegas. Good boy, stop saying stupid things.”

This tone was overbearing and carried a hint of flirtation.

If it were any normal day and someone dared to treat him like this, Xie Qingxiao would definitely jump up and beat the crap out of them. But at this very moment, he felt as if his heart was soaking in warm seawater.

His eyes softened, and he murmured the name of the person in front of him: “Gu Siyuan…”

“Gu Siyuan…” Shan Kai frowned while struggling.

“Ah, Gu Siyuan, why does this name sound so familiar?”
“It does feel a bit familiar.”
“Fuck, isn’t that the guy on the banner?” someone among the lackeys suddenly shouted.

As a private school, Beichuan High School had always been seen as a gathering place for academic underachievers in the eyes of students from provincial key high schools.

However, schools were just like people; whatever they lacked the most, they cared about the most. Every year, Beichuan High School would spend generous scholarships to poach students with good grades to decorate their facade.

After the news of Gu Siyuan being admitted early to Q University came out at the end of last semester, their so-called aristocratic private school completely changed its image and acted like a nouveau riche. They hung red banners reading “Warm Congratulations to Gu Siyuan of Class 1, Grade 12 of Our School for Winning First Prize in the XXX Olympiad and Being Admitted Early to XXXX University” all over the front and back gates and surrounding walls of the campus, and they still hadn’t been taken down even now.

They made absolutely sure that everyone passing by could see this good news.

Of course, the people who saw it most clearly were the people of Beichuan High School themselves.

Even if most students didn’t know what Gu Siyuan looked like, these three characters of his name were deeply engraved in their minds. After all, they had to walk back and forth under those red banners every day.

Shan Kai turned his head to glance at Gu Siyuan, asking somewhat doubtfully, “You’re Gu Siyuan? That Gu Siyuan from Class 1 in our school?”

Gu Siyuan turned around and gave a lazy “Hmm”: “I suppose so.”

Shan Kai was stunned for a second, then immediately retorted, “A good student is actually learning how to fight?”

Gu Siyuan said coldly, “And yet you still can’t beat this good student.”

Xie Qingxiao glanced at him; this guy actually has quite a talent for humor.

“…” Shan Kai.

Shan Kai’s family was in business and had some money. He was only able to enter Beichuan High School back then by bribing his way in.

His dad hadn’t had the conditions to study when he was young, so he was exceptionally strict with his son, wholeheartedly wanting him to become an educated person. Shan Kai also knew where his dad’s bottom line was; he normally fooled around and got into fights, but he never dared to completely mess up school and the college entrance exam.

The whole school knew Gu Siyuan was Beichuan High School’s treasure. If he did anything to him, the principal would eighty percent likely just kick him out and send him home. And if he was sent home, his dad might not kill him, but a vicious beating and being strung up and whipped were absolutely inescapable.

Thinking of this, Shan Kai glared viciously at Gu Siyuan: “For the sake of your name being Gu Siyuan, I won’t hold it against you for hitting me with that basketball earlier. But Xie Qingxiao must stay. You can get lost.”

Gu Siyuan looked at him in bewilderment.

He applied a bit more force to his right hand gripping Shan Kai. “Are you misunderstanding the situation? Do you know who holds the butcher’s knife, and who is the meat on the chopping block right now?”

“What knife or fish? I don’t even like eating fish, I only like beef,” Shan Kai said, even more confused.

“…” Gu Siyuan.

“…” Xie Qingxiao felt that if this continued, the sorrow in his heart was going to be completely overtaken by comedy.

“Hey, you kids, neither going home nor going to eat, what are you doing just standing around here?”

The security guard’s voice came through the small megaphone in his hand.

Huo Yi ran over frantically from the doorway and grabbed Xie Qingxiao: “Qingxiao, why did I just see that bastard Shen Ting leaving from the guard room window? He left, so why did he leave you here?”

The emotions Xie Qingxiao had just managed to dilute plunged back into a heavy abyss.

The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, and he chuckled lightly as if he didn’t care at all, “Heh, who knows?”

Huo Yi opened his mouth but didn’t continue asking.

For some reason, he felt that his good friend had become somewhat unfamiliar and a bit frightening like this.

On the other side, facing the suddenly appearing security guard.

Gu Siyuan exerted force with his right hand, pulling Shan Kai closer, and patted his shoulder affectionately. “Aren’t we just discussing our offensive strategy for the basketball game later? Wouldn’t you say so?”

Shan Kai and his gang had been messing around for so long that the concept of snitching to adults simply didn’t exist in their brains. He immediately nodded along with the flow.

He even said arrogantly, “You old man, you even want to micromanage us playing ball?”

“Is loving sports and exercising our bodies not allowed?”

“Who do you think wants to manage you!” The security guard was also a bit angry.

However, although he scolded them verbally, he remained standing there. It seemed he planned to wait until this group dispersed.

Shan Kai frowned in annoyance. Today was really unlucky; he didn’t get to play ball, and he didn’t get to fight either.

Right at this moment, a deep, magnetic male voice rang out.

“True enough. Since we are on the basketball court, we should naturally solve our problems with basketball.”

As Gu Siyuan spoke, he casually tossed Shan Kai’s wrist away and rolled up the sleeves of his uniform shirt, revealing his toned and powerful forearms.

The entire motion looked suave and neat.

Standing on the sidelines, both Xie Qingxiao and Huo Yi couldn’t help but feel their hearts skip a beat at his composure and confidence.

Finally regaining his freedom, Shan Kai couldn’t help but burst into loud laughter.

Although he hadn’t joined the school basketball team, he knew everyone in the entire school, from freshmen to seniors, who had good basketball skills. Aside from the school team, the only person whose skills could be said to match his own was Shen Ting, which was exactly why he disliked Shen Ting.

He didn’t know which crack this guy in front of him had popped out of. Even though he had some strength, basketball wasn’t such a simple thing. Don’t underestimate basketball…

“Playing ball is good, playing ball is good,” the security guard also chimed in from the side.

Even though he didn’t know Gu Siyuan, he had some understanding of Shan Kai and these few rascals.

Although it currently looked like Shan Kai’s group was at a disadvantage, who knew if these rascals had any backup plans? What if they caused a huge incident? Since they could resolve it with basketball now, it was best not to create more trouble.

High school students’ time was so tight. It would be terrible if their studies were delayed!

Gu Siyuan stared at Shan Kai and the others, his voice deep: “What, don’t dare?”

“Tch… bringing up basketball with me?” Shan Kai rubbed his wrist and sneered, “Kid, don’t cry and call me daddy later.”

The corners of Gu Siyuan’s mouth curled up slightly, but he didn’t respond again. Trash-talking with high schoolers really didn’t fit his style of doing things.

A moment later, Shan Kai lightly bounced the basketball up and down and looked at Gu Siyuan: “Let’s start with a simple one. Three-point shootout. Do you know how, oh famous Academic God?”

After saying that, he stepped back directly outside the three-point line.

After preparing and building momentum for a moment, he leaped up. The basketball hit the front of the rim with a bang, rolled lightly for half a circle, and finally dropped smoothly into the net.

Immediately, a round of applause rang out on the court. Shan Kai’s few lackeys cheered and shouted excitedly, “Competing in basketball with Brother Kai, what’s the saying again? Acting as a shooter at Lu Ban’s door…”

“Get the fuck out of here. Are you uncultured? Did playing games make you stupid? It’s clearly called wielding a broadsword at Lu Ban’s door…”

“You two stop embarrassing the basketball team! That’s a fucking four-character idiom: Ban men nong fu (Showing off one’s axe skills before the master carpenter Lu Ban)!” The last person practically screamed his lungs out.

Shan Kai turned his head slightly and cast Gu Siyuan a half-smile, his gaze filled with obvious contempt and disdain.

Gu Siyuan completely ignored him.

With a few steps back from his long legs, he also stood outside the three-point line. His large hand grabbed a basketball and bounced it lightly. It struck the ground with a soft thud, thud, while he narrowed his eyes, aiming at the hoop not far away.

His entire being seemed like a precious sword that had hidden its edge for a long time. The moment before it gathers its momentum to be unsheathed is the most terrifying.

Regardless of whether this shot went in or not, Xie Qingxiao felt an extremely satisfying sensation overflowing from his heart.

Suddenly, the bouncing stopped.

Gu Siyuan’s calves lightly pushed off the ground, and his whole body leaped into the air. His upper body seemed to bend into a bow, and his long, powerful arm gave a light push. The basketball traced a beautiful arc in mid-air, cutting through the space forward.

The next moment, with a thump, the basketball had already hit the ground.

Only the gently trembling net below the rim proved that a ball had indeed just passed through.

“Motherfucker, a swish three-pointer…” someone couldn’t help but exclaim.

Shan Kai’s face turned incredibly ugly. He glared fiercely at the guy who had just spoken out, then said to Gu Siyuan, “Best of five. There’s still more, let’s keep going.”

“Right, there are still four shots left!” Someone among the lackeys immediately reacted, saying self-righteously, “This guy has really good luck.”
“Yeah, yeah, this guy just had dumb luck…”
“Again, again, Brother Kai, crush this bastard!”

Listening to this chattering, Shan Kai felt a lot better in his heart.
