◎ Gay Men Ruined My Life ◎

Late at night at the airport, the cool autumn wind poured into the tunnel, accompanied by the sound of airport announcements. Shi Shu spotted the exclusive luxury car waiting in the designated area and got in with Xie Wuchi.

Bang. The car door closed, and the vehicle started moving. Shi Shu checked the time: “It’s 11:30. My parents are probably still waiting for us, even though they have classes tomorrow.”

Shi Shu sent a message: [Mom, Dad, why don’t you guys sleep first? I’m bringing him back, but we’re going to sleep too. We can chat tomorrow when we wake up.]

Mom: [Almost there?]

Shi Shu: [In the car, another hour.]

Mom: [Spinning flower.jpg]

Mom: [It’s fine, Dad and Mom are waiting. Take your time on the road, no rush.]

“Can’t wait to see you.”

Shi Shu turned off his phone. Xie Wuchi had just finished a call, took off his mask, and turned his head to look at the scenery outside the window: “The weather is turning cool. The temperature here is higher than in the capital.”

Shi Shu: “But it won’t be super cold. I’ll take you out to play these next few days.”

The car, dedicated to receiving them, drove quietly and gradually arrived at the entrance of the residential complex where Shi Shu’s family lived. It was a complex with high-rise buildings surrounded by dense woods. To the left of the entrance was a brightly lit supermarket. Shi Shu said, “Wait, let me buy you some daily necessities first.”

But just as Shi Shu turned the corner, he received a message: [We have everything at home, don’t buy anything.]

Shi Shu: “Damn, my own mother, predicting my moves.”

Shi Shu turned to find Xie Wuchi: “Let’s go.”

The Ghost’s body disappeared at the end of the street. It was 12:30 AM, and the fallen leaves under the shade trees were quiet. Shi Shu held Xie Wuchi’s hand: “Stay at home for two days, go back to school on Sunday afternoon. I’ll take you to eat delicious food these few days.”

Downstairs, several young men and women were just getting off the elevator. Seeing the two of them, they couldn’t help but take a few extra looks. There was also a guy taking the elevator with them, holding takeout, not very tall, wearing pajamas.

When Xie Wuchi entered, the other guy looked up at him.

“………………”

The guy looked despairing, stood in the corner, and shrank against the wall.

Shi Shu: “…”

One was a male, the other was a Man.

Xie Wuchi, a man among men, an emperor, a heroic lord, the peak.

Shi Shu stood in the middle, speechless. When they reached the floor, the pajama guy whooshed out.

“…”

Shi Shu looked at the fleeing back figure and thought, Bro, I understand you. He slowly turned his head and tugged gently on Xie Wuchi’s clothes with his fingertips.

Arriving at the floor, just as Shi Shu got off the elevator and took out his keys, he saw two people looking out from the doorway.

Looking closely, Ms. Bai Mo was wearing a water-green qipao, her hair pinned up with a hairpin, red lips and ink-black eyebrows, gentle and elegant. She was smiling and looking behind Shi Shu: “Oh my, is this Xie Xun? Come in, come in! Sit!”

Beside her, Shi Lun, dressed in a neat black administrative jacket for work with short hair, asked seriously, “You’re back? Mn, please come in.”

Shi Shu: “Is this my house entrance?”

Shi Shu reached out to pull the tassel of her hairpin but was pushed away. “Xie Xun, right? Sit down, sit down. You didn’t eat on the way here, did you? The food was just heated up, it’s all on the table. Come, come, come—put on these shoes, Uncle and Auntie prepared them for you.”

Shi Shu: “What are you doing? Have I become an outsider?”

Bai Mo sized up Xie Wuchi again and again. Shi Shu entered the door and looked around the room first, preparing to reminisce about the past.

But his ears were full of Bai Mo’s lively voice: “Auntie’s house is just like this, make yourself at home. Xiao Shu, you child, why haven’t you asked Xie Xun to sit down yet?”

Shi Shu had to say: “Sit, sit, eat.”

There were quite a few dishes on the table. It was already 12:30 AM, and the two had come travel-worn. Bai Mo asked a few questions like “Are you tired?” and “Sit sit sit!” She was actually anxious to sleep, but also afraid that being too enthusiastic might disturb Xie Wuchi, so she quickly pulled Shi Lun and whispered, “You guys rest after eating, you’re tired today. We’ll talk tomorrow if there’s anything. Eat slowly.”

She then said to Shi Shu: “We received the things you bought; they’re in your room. Take Xie Xun to rest after eating, take good care of him.”

Shi Shu: “I know, I know. Mom, Dad, go to sleep.”

Bai Mo held her husband’s hand, gave a few more instructions, and then went upstairs to remove makeup, apply a mask, and prepare for bed.

Shi Shu pulled Xie Wuchi to sit down: “Eat first, just eat a bit, then clean up and shower.”

Xie Wuchi: “Are Mom and Dad satisfied with me?”

Shi Shu: “I don’t know. They look pretty satisfied. If they aren’t, there’s nothing we can do. The situation is what it is.”

Shi Shu put food into his bowl: “Eat a couple of bites first, then let’s sleep.”

Xie Wuchi: “I thought you lived near the school.”

Shi Shu: “I lived in the teachers’ apartments next to the school when I was little, then we moved here. Why, interested in my childhood?”

Xie Wuchi picked up his chopsticks: “No rush, I’ll come often in the future.”

Shi Shu shoveled a few mouthfuls of rice first, then trotted to open the bedroom door: “My parents live upstairs, I live downstairs. You’re sleeping with me tonight.”

Shi Shu turned on the light. The room was spacious and bright. Family photos were stuck on the wall by the desk. On the bookshelf on the other side were books, workbooks, athlete posters, and model merchandise.

Shi Shu opened the wardrobe to find clothes and saw the clothes placed on the bed: “Your pajamas, washed for you too. Go take a shower.”

Xie Wuchi stood still. He was very tall and was surveying the room. Shi Shu was puzzled: “With that look in your eyes, I feel like you’ve figured out exactly how much savings my family has.”

Xie Wuchi smiled: “Mn, roughly.”

Shi Shu: “…Don’t talk.”

Shi Shu handed him the pajamas: “Go shower. I’ll make the bed first.”

Fearing he wouldn’t know, Shi Shu specially took him to the bathroom, “Turn right for hot water. These are my towel and bath towel—I use this bathroom alone, my parents use the one upstairs, so make yourself comfortable—I’m leaving first.”

Just as Shi Shu was about to leave, Xie Wuchi turned on the faucet: “It’s hot.”

“Hot? I’ll adjust the water temperature again.”

Shi Shu pressed the temperature on the water heater. Behind him, the sound of the heater fan started, and clothes dropped to the floor. Shi Shu turned around; Xie Wuchi had just taken off his clothes and was placing them on the rack nearby.

Shi Shu glanced at him: “Don’t, I haven’t adjusted the water temperature yet.”

The more anxious Shi Shu got, pressing buttons frantically while turning to look at Xie Wuchi, until he unbuttoned the edge of his trousers. Shi Shu: “I give up.”

Shi Shu didn’t speak. Xie Wuchi took two steps forward. The space in the shower room was limited. Shi Shu couldn’t raise his eyelids well, looking at Xie Wuchi for a long time until he stripped completely naked.

“………………”

Shi Shu felt he couldn’t leave, nor stay. He walked up to Xie Wuchi and asked in a whisper, “Do you want me to wash with you?”

Xie Wuchi: “Mn.”

“This,” Shi Shu thought for two seconds, “Then let’s wash quickly. My parents are asleep. Let’s finish early and go back to the room.”

Shi Shu took off his clothes, faced Xie Wuchi, and picked up the showerhead to spray water on him. Xie Wuchi reached out to gently stroke his chin, leaning in for a kiss.

Shi Shu turned his head away and said seriously: “Showering, nothing else.”

Then fingers pried open his lips, and Shi Shu could only make an “Ah” sound: “Don’t do this.”

Xie Wuchi took a step forward, reached out, and pulled Shi Shu into his arms: “Just a hug.”

Shi Shu was a bit puzzled but still sprayed hot water on their bodies with the showerhead. The water temperature rose. Slowly, before the atmosphere could get romantic, Shi Shu quickly grabbed a towel to wipe the water off his body: “Leaving, leaving, going out. We agreed, pay attention to the impact at home.”

Shi Shu hurriedly put on his pajamas and went out before Xie Wuchi.

Shi Shu made the bed and grabbed a pillow. Turning around, Xie Wuchi came out dressed, wearing a pair of newly bought slippers, drying his dripping short black hair with a towel.

Shi Shu closed the door and breathed a sigh of relief: “Okay, it’s past one. I’m a bit sleepy now.”

Xie Wuchi was observing Shi Shu’s room and sat on the edge of the bed.

Shi Shu: “First time in a boy’s room?”

Xie Wuchi: “Mn.”

“…” Shi Shu, “You’re allowed to look freely, I don’t care.”

Xie Wuchi’s desire for control meant he casually observed the whole family upon entering, and was now inspecting Shi Shu’s bedroom.

Short hair dried quickly, but Shi Shu still took out the hairdryer. After drying it in tens of seconds, he dragged Xie Wuchi over: “Time to sleep.”

Xie Wuchi slept on the outside. Shi Shu slept on this bed after a long time and couldn’t help patting the quilt: “Awesome.”

Just as he finished speaking, he was pulled into Xie Wuchi’s arms sideways, who leaned down to kiss him. One hand threaded through his hair, clasping the back of his head, kissing his lips again and again, then using the thumb to gently rub open his lips, turning it into a wet, deep kiss.

Shi Shu curled up in the bed, fingers gently holding his wrist. With his lips held captive, the deep kiss continued until sticky, wet sounds emerged. Shi Shu’s face began to turn red; he kicked the quilt and grabbed his hand.

“Xie Wuchi…” Shi Shu felt his lips being licked.

Xie Wuchi let go for a moment: “Mn?”

“…Mn.” Shi Shu’s hand paused, then reached up to embrace his back, crumpling his T-shirt. A hand reached inside his pajamas, holding his fair waist tightly.

Shi Shu’s lips and tongue were devoured by him. Kissing him, his brain became a bit dizzy. Gulp… smack. Shi Shu’s brain heated up, burrowing into his arms.

Every time they separated for a moment, Xie Wuchi would stop and ask, “Do you like it?”

Only then could Shi Shu catch his breath and breathe normally before the kiss fell again.

Shi Shu kissed him for almost ten minutes, constantly clingy, making Shi Shu’s heart soft. Xie Wuchi: “I love you, baby.”

Shi Shu’s ears were bright red: “I love you too, baby.”

Xie Wuchi kissed down again. Shi Shu reached out his arms to hug him. A moment later, Xie Wuchi’s hand reached under the collar, stroking the bones on Shi Shu’s back, entangling him tightly like ocean waves.

Shi Shu was already sleepy. Being held and kissed made him dizzy, and he slowly fell asleep in his arms, his breathing gradually becoming even, sleeping heavily like every moment he slept with Xie Wuchi before.

Click. The light was turned off, plunging the room into darkness.

Two figures embraced under the quilt. A hand clasping Shi Shu’s soft, fluffy hair lowered down.

Early morning, Shi Shu was still in a deep sleep, the room filled with snow-white light.

Shi Shu lay on the bed in a ‘big’ shape (大), rolling left and right, but the quilt covered him neatly. Sunlight shone in from the transparent window. Xie Wuchi leaned against the desk flipping through a booklet—it was Shi Shu’s high school error correction notebook—reading it for a while.

Shi Shu slept late yesterday and woke up late this morning. Xie Wuchi went out to take two calls and came back, and Shi Shu was still sleeping in bed.

Xie Wuchi sat aside, looking at the reports on his computer and sending a few messages.

When Shi Shu finally woke up, bleary-eyed, he saw Xie Wuchi’s back.

His own room, Xie Wuchi’s back. Shi Shu’s memory confused strangely for a moment before he sat up: “Xie Wuchi, how long have you been up?”

Xie Wuchi: “Two hours.”

Shi Shu: “Do you sleep so little even when you’re back? Are you hungry? I’ll go get you something to eat.”

Shi Shu was about to get up, but Xie Wuchi said, “There are instant noodles in the fridge, just eat something casual.”

Shi Shu: “No way. I can eat instant noodles alone, but you eating instant noodles with me? No way. I’m going downstairs to buy something hot.”

Shi Shu wore a white T-shirt, looking sunny and clean, his messy hair hanging by his fair ears. He raked his hands through it casually twice, then grabbed a jacket preparing to go out: “Wait for me.”

Xie Wuchi followed: “I’ll go with you.”

Shi Shu washed his face, brushed his teeth, and went out with Xie Wuchi. Downstairs, he bought piping hot soy milk and xiaolongbao, then ordered a bowl of noodles. Shi Shu handed it to Xie Wuchi: “You drink.”

Xie Wuchi: “Why are you eating instant noodles yourself and not letting me eat them?”

Shi Shu: “Hmph, I’m not the kind of person who lets their partner live a hard life with them.”

Xie Wuchi: “Who taught you that?”

Shi Shu: “My mom taught me. She said being in a relationship is like this: you can live poorly yourself, but you can’t ask the other person to live poorly like you.”

Xie Wuchi was eating noodles and transferred half into Shi Shu’s bowl: “It’s past nine now, eat less, there will definitely be a lot of dishes at noon.”

Shi Shu picked up chopsticks, poking the noodles in the bowl while eating. The auntie serving noodles looked at him: “Xiao Shu, back for the holidays?”

Shi Shu: “Mn, Auntie Zhang, home to play for a few days.”

Auntie Zhang saw Xie Wuchi: “Brought a friend too?”

Shi Shu: “Mn mn, my boyfriend.” (Note: implying male friend/boyfriend ambiguity)

Auntie Zhang didn’t catch the nuance, still smiling: “Come eat often in the future, handsome young man.”

Shi Shu knew she didn’t understand gay men; after all, how could ordinary people understand gay men? He and Xie Wuchi each ate half the noodles. After eating, they went upstairs back home.

Entering the door, he put the ingredients from the fridge into the stew pot. Shi Shu sat on the bed checking his phone, reviewing sent text messages. In a flash of time travel spanning several years, he almost didn’t recognize his friends anymore.

Xie Wuchi sat beside him. When he got close, Shi Shu was looking at messages on his phone. With a gentle tug on his wrist, Shi Shu was pulled entirely onto his lap. Before Shi Shu could react, his chin was gently pinched, and a kiss fell upon him again.

Since getting together with Xie Wuchi… Shi Shu had just rinsed his mouth. The back of his head was held, and he started kissing Xie Wuchi again.

Shi Shu struggled: “Xie Wuchi, you really can’t go a moment without kissing people.”

Shi Shu heard his panting. His ears were rubbed hot and red by his hands. Holding his face close, gnawing hungrily at his lips. Xie Wuchi’s brows were furrowed, eyes out of focus, fingers repeatedly stroking Shi Shu’s face and neck heavily, rubbing the skin until it was red.

Shi Shu propped one hand on the edge of the sofa, his face held as he was deep-kissed, ears bright red.

Shi Shu couldn’t take it anymore. Leaning against the edge of the bed, his chin lifted, he was kissed again and again. Shi Shu reached out to grab Xie Wuchi’s shoulder, using the leverage to straighten up: “Okay, okay… enough.”

Shi Shu lay in his arms, dizzy for a while: “Your lung capacity is pretty good, even better than mine.”

Xie Wuchi kissed his ear and neck: “I don’t exercise less than you.”

Shi Shu calmed his breathing, face still flushed: “This is too passionate…”

Shi Shu hugged him tight, and the two started kissing again. Shi Shu felt hot all over; seeing Xie Wuchi made him unable to handle it, like he was possessed.

In the middle of intimacy, Xie Wuchi took a call. It was probably work-related. Xie Wuchi’s thumb gently stroked Shi Shu’s lips. After letting go, he communicated with the other party in English, his spoken language as calm and natural as a native foreigner.

After the call, Xie Wuchi made another call.

Shi Shu, face flushed: “What call is this?”

Xie Wuchi: “From the family office, asking me to confirm the acquisition offer and payment structure for a chip technology company, as well as the equity distribution. I’ll talk to him later.”

Shi Shu: “…”

Shi Shu felt a string of words flow through his brain without retaining any content.

Shi Shu wanted to ask more, but Xie Wuchi had already put down the phone, cupped Shi Shu’s face, and kissed him again. Shi Shu smelled the same body wash scent in his hair, warm and fragrant. Lips and tongues entangled, and his mind quickly became blurry.

Throughout the morning, Xie Wuchi occasionally made calls to handle work. Shi Shu was watching “Youth University Learning” while preparing to take Xie Wuchi out for a stroll in the afternoon.

They kissed endlessly. Shi Shu hugged Xie Wuchi: “Why do you like kissing people so much?”

Xie Wuchi: “I’m addicted.”

“You, whatever.” Shi Shu panted slightly from being kissed. Suddenly, he heard footsteps outside the door.

Shi Shu said: “My parents are back.”

Xie Wuchi let go: “Alright, that’s it for today.”

Shi Shu smiled, sat up, quickly straightened his clothes, and found a small mirror to carefully check his lip color. His parents were busy cooking as soon as they returned and didn’t bother them. When it was about time, Shi Shu pushed open the door and went out: “Mom, Dad.”

The table was full of dishes: chicken, fish, shrimp, green leafy vegetables. Shi Lun was also busy in the kitchen. The couple spoke softly, turning their heads upon hearing the sound.

Bai Mo was at the door, her full makeup removed, looking delicate and graceful. Seeing Xie Wuchi, a very tall and handsome male, she took a whole step back: “…Xie Xun, you guys are awake? Did you eat breakfast?”

Xie Wuchi: “We went downstairs and ate earlier.”

Bai Mo smiled: “That’s good. Sit down, watch TV? We’ll eat at home for lunch.”

Several people were busy. A sports event was playing on the TV. Shi Shu’s eyes were glued to the TV. Aside, Bai Mo finally relaxed, pushed up her glasses, and asked casually with extreme deliberateness: “Xie Xun, are you used to Uncle and Auntie’s home? I heard from Xiao Shu that you used to live abroad, afraid you might be uncomfortable at Auntie’s house?”

Xie Wuchi: “Not entirely abroad. I attended high school in the US but also kept my student status in a domestic high school, coming back for classes during holidays. Besides, I’ve been back residing in the country for over three years now.”

Bai Mo: “Dual student status domestic and abroad?”

Xie Wuchi: “Correct. My university degree is a dual degree from Stanford and Tsinghua.”

The score on the TV went up. Shi Shu turned to look at him, “You have a foreign degree too? Why didn’t you tell me?”

Xie Wuchi: “In that environment, saying it was useless.”

Shi Shu: “Oh.” He was used to it, but his parents were losing their calm.

Shi Lun coughed hurriedly, and Bai Mo pushed her glasses again: “That’s relatively rare… I had a student who did that too; his parents were in business. Xiao Shu, remember that academic committee member?”

Shi Shu turned to think: “Him? I remember. Bodyguards picking him up and dropping him off every day, changing luxury cars daily.” He added, “The super rich guy in our class.”

Xie Wuchi didn’t care much: “Is that so.”

“………………”

It wasn’t good to compare with Xie Wuchi.

Anyway, his parents had a rough idea of his family conditions, but not a particularly clear idea. Mostly, they didn’t dare to imagine.

The living room and kitchen were separated by a curio shelf. Shi Lun was washing vegetables. Bai Mo washed fruits and brought them over: “I heard from Xiao Shu that your mother does business and your father works in the system?”
