Zhan Yan’s eyes widened. “Sis?”
Zhan Suiru froze, a rare occurrence. “Yan Yan?”
Gu Jiancheng also froze.
Caught off guard meeting the parent! He had originally planned to carefully design their first meeting, striving to rack up as much goodwill as possible, but how did they suddenly bump into each other like this?! And it was the sister most likely to be connected to the supernatural in Yan Yan’s family!
Chu Chengcheng and Cheng Yichu still remembered this beautiful sister who had brought them those super delicious large grapes. The two of them waved enthusiastically, “Sister Zhan! Sister Zhan!”
Gu Jiancheng: …
How did you guys beat me to calling her ‘Sister’ again?!
Zhan Yan was stunned when he saw Yang Ran beside his sister. Who is this guy? Why is Sis watching a movie with a strange man?
Open the gossip strip and start searching!
[To prevent players who happened to have seen Yang Ran before from recognizing him, Zhan Suiru changed Yang Ran’s face.]
Zhan Yan: …Oh, so that’s it. Being a Puppet Butler has this benefit too—true disguise technique!
Wait, why is Yang Ran wearing a leather collar around his neck? Sis, do you guys usually play like this… Wait, that’s not right!
Zhan Yan’s eyes suddenly widened further.
How could Sis bring Yang Ran out? Has Yang Ran recovered?!
Zhan Yan continued searching with the Gossip System.
Sob sob sob, Deputy Director Ning, you did a great job! Thanks to Director Nie, the ‘Great Dance Music’, and all the researchers who put effort into researching the suppressors!
The two groups merged and exited the theater together.
“My classmates and I all had cameos in it, so we came to watch it together,” Zhan Yan said while constantly glancing at Yang Ran.
Seeing Zhan Yan staring at him, Yang Ran revealed a warm, clean smile.
Zhan Yan: Hmm… Although this face is different from the one I saw in the dream and looks a bit awkward, it’s still quite handsome. He’s worthy of my sister.
Seeing Zhan Yan staring straight at Yang Ran, Zhan Suiru skillfully changed the subject.
She shifted her gaze to Gu Jiancheng. She hadn’t seen this classmate last time!
Gu Jiancheng reflexively showed a smile first. Very innocent, very friendly, just carrying a hint of the “Dominineering CEO” vibe he had been practicing these past few days.
When their eyes met, both felt a jolt in their hearts.
For some reason, they felt the other person looked a bit familiar. The kind of familiar that wasn’t simple at all!
Zhan Yan introduced them. “This is my sister. This is my classmate, Gu Jiancheng. He also had a cameo in the movie with us; he was interning nearby last time.”
Gu Jiancheng immediately put on a smile that was as amiable as could be, his voice incredibly friendly. “Hello, Sister. Zhan Yan and I are roommates. Thank you for the grapes you sent, they were especially delicious.”
Zhan Suiru was pondering why she found Gu Jiancheng familiar when she suddenly felt her sleeve being tugged by Yang Ran.
The two had immense tacit understanding; without even needing eye contact, Zhan Suiru immediately glanced down, her gaze landing on Gu Jiancheng’s wrist… Why did that string of Incense Beads he was wearing look so familiar?
Zhan Suiru’s gaze sharpened instantly when she looked back up.
Okay then. The Incense Beads were asked for this “classmate,” and the essential oils were probably for him too.
I said Yan Yan was acting weird! I suspected it last summer vacation!
Zhan Yan: Oh no… I was too excited finding out the suppressor worked and forgot about this flaw.
Zhan Suiru scrutinized Gu Jiancheng carefully.
Hmm, not short, looks passably good, seems big and tall and healthy, won’t be a burden to Yan Yan… But he’s taller than Yan Yan and looks stronger too. If they argue in the future, he won’t bully Yan Yan, will he?
The way he talks is quite polite, but that smile at the beginning felt a bit odd. And… why does she feel Gu Jiancheng looks familiar?
Zhan Suiru started to ponder.
Spiritual power is related to memory. With her spiritual power, she should have a photographic memory. However, the reincarnations she experienced before caused some slight issues with her memory. Now she can remember important things clearly, but memories that are too distant or unimportant get tossed aside.
It would take some effort for her to remember why Gu Jiancheng looked familiar.
No matter, she could chat with him first.
“Gu Jiancheng, is it? Yan Yan has mentioned you to me.” Zhan Suiru curved her lips, her eyes seemingly smiling but also containing deeper meaning.
Zhan Yan immediately cast a meaningful look at Yang Ran.
“Sis, who is this?”
Zhan Suiru paused, retracting her sharp gaze from Gu Jiancheng.
“My friend is also interested in sculptures, so I brought him to take a look.”
Yang Ran’s current state wasn’t suitable for telling the family yet. She had originally planned to bring him home only after he had fully recovered.
The siblings communicated with their eyes:
Tsk tsk tsk, I haven’t even asked anything yet, and you’re already protecting him? My little brother has grown up and is already siding with outsiders!
Zhan Yan:
Hmph, didn’t you keep everything from me too?
While communicating with his eyes, Zhan Yan smiled very friendlily at Yang Ran. “You have good taste! I said my sister’s sculptures are especially great; surely more and more people will appreciate them! When we go back, our whole family will go see them; they’ll definitely like them too! This movie presented the sculptures super well. Did you like it too?”
Zhan Yan looked at Yang Ran with innocent eyes.
He remembered Yang Ran was someone who cared very much about aesthetics; whenever he had the chance, he would decorate things he made. Judging from the fact that he pinched two little dog ears onto the player, Yang Ran had very normal aesthetics.
Yang Ran’s ears turned red.
This is Suisui’s brother. He has a very good relationship with Suisui and has seen many of the sculptures I made… the ugly sculptures…
Ah… why is meeting the parents… no, meeting the future brother-in-law happening like this…
“Those sculptures…” Yang Ran really didn’t have thick enough skin to accept the praise. But as soon as he spoke, he realized that in the brother’s eyes, those sculptures were made by Suisui.
The brother stared at him expectantly.
Yang Ran stammered, “V-Very good.”
Zhan Yan continued, “You think they’re great too, right? Aren’t they full of vitality? My favorite scene is in the classroom, where the light changes rapidly from morning to dusk. Which part did you like best?”
Zhan Suiru interrupted, “We’re almost out of the theater.”
The siblings’ eyes met, quickly reaching an understanding through their gazes:
—I know you’re in a relationship, and I know you don’t want to tell the family. I’ll help you hide it, and you help me hide mine, okay?
—Okay.
Acting as if nothing happened, the siblings looked away from each other and quickly said goodbye at the theater entrance.
Gu Jiancheng felt that Yan Yan didn’t seem to want him to interact with his sister, so he hesitated for a moment, and then never found another chance to speak.
The siblings were surprisingly in sync; before anyone else could react, they had already walked off in different directions.
Gu Jiancheng was troubled. Yan Yan seems to think now isn’t a good opportunity to introduce me to his sister? But why does he feel Zhan Suiru looks familiar? Could it be that he had contact with her before using his identity as Deep Shadow?
Last time at the train station, Gu Jiancheng had seen Zhan Yan’s family from afar once. His eyesight was very good, and he saw everyone’s appearances clearly, but that time he didn’t find them familiar.
It could also be that Zhan Suiru’s supernatural identity concealed her appearance…
Gu Jiancheng really wanted to chat with Zhan Yan about his sister.
After separating from his sister, Zhan Yan immediately opened the Gossip System and started searching. He didn’t have time to look closely at the gossip feed in the theater earlier; he only knew that the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau’s suppressor had worked. But he didn’t know the specific situation yet.
Does Yang Ran have to wear this suppressor for his whole life? Are there any side effects? Can the problem with Yang Ran be thoroughly solved based on the principles of this suppressor…
Only after returning to the rental did Zhan Yan turn off the Gossip System. When he came back to his senses, he found Gu Jiancheng looking at him pitifully, like a big dog soaked by rain.
Zhan Yan: “What’s wrong?”
The pitiful Gu Jiancheng mustered a Dominineering CEO smile. “Heh, so what if you ignore me? I don’t care!”
Zhan Yan instantly recalled how he had gotten back the whole way.
He was engrossed in searching for gossip feed related to the suppressor and hadn’t paid much attention to the outside environment along the way. Gu Jiancheng had tried to talk to him several times, but he had brushed him off. Gu Jiancheng had even held his forearm to guide him up and down the stairs.
Oh, look at this aggrieved energy.
Zhan Yan pinched Gu Jiancheng’s chin and turned his face over. “I care.”
Student Gu’s eyes widened again, his pupils black and bright, like little flames burning vigorously inside.
“I was distracted earlier.” Zhan Yan smoothed his fur. “What were you trying to say before?”
Student Gu’s chin felt nice to the touch; he forgot to let go.
So Gu Jiancheng spoke while having his chin pinched. “I met your sister today.”
Zhan Yan lowered his hand. “Mhm-hmm.”
Gu Jiancheng fished his hand back onto his own neck. “Did your sister have a bad impression of me?”
Zhan Yan stroked his neck, remembering the video Mi Man showed him a couple of days ago of a big dog repeatedly nudging someone’s hand with its head asking for pets. “You’re overthinking it. If my sister thought you weren’t good enough, her reaction wouldn’t be like this.”
Gu Jiancheng leaned closer again. “You said I was your classmate.”
Zhan Yan understood. Student Gu was still hung up on meeting the parent.
“It wasn’t convenient to introduce you properly in that situation.”
Gu Jiancheng: “Does your sister do anything else besides making sculptures? The essential oils and Incense Beads she gave work really well.”
Zhan Yan: “Oh that, they were given by my sister’s client. Her clients do all sorts of things.”
Although Zhan Yan knew his sister made these, he could only use the excuse his sister had used to fool him in the past to fool Student Gu for now.
Sigh, there are so many troublesome matters at home right now; it really isn’t a good time for meeting parents.
Gu Jiancheng thought to himself that items of this quality definitely couldn’t be gifts from clients, so Yan Yan didn’t know his sister’s true identity.
Worrisome. How should I handle family relations when I’m with Yan Yan in the future? Judging by Sister’s ability in perfumery, she should be a healing type? Which healing types has he come into contact with before…
Gu Jiancheng went to flip through the list of healing types that ‘Approaching Science’ had given him previously.
Zhan Yan got some peace and quiet and decided to check the gossip feed about his sister and Yang Ran first.
[Yang Ran held it in the whole way. After returning to the studio, he asked Zhan Suiru uneasily, “Is your brother dissatisfied with me?”]
Zhan Yan felt these words sounded a bit familiar.
Yang Ran felt he had performed terribly in front of the brother. The brother liked his sculptures very much, but when asked about them, his reaction was hesitant and slow, as if he didn’t like those sculptures at all and was just acting like he did—although he genuinely thought they were ugly.
But the brother still thought those sculptures were made by Suisui. So in the brother’s eyes, would he seem like a bad person lying to his sister?
“Don’t worry. If that little clever ghost didn’t like you, his reaction wouldn’t be like this.”
Zhan Yan, eating gossips remotely: This sentence also sounds a bit familiar.
The suppressor could last for about a day, but in the later stages, its effect would become unstable. Not long after they finished the movie, Yang Ran’s suppressor started showing signs of instability, so Zhan Suiru took him back to the studio.
Zhan Yan continued scrolling through gossip feed, and as he scrolled, he started worrying again. Although the suppressor was useful, the duration was too short… He searched for the cost of this thing to see if he could provide Yang Ran with one a day…
The price wasn’t searchable in the gossip feed, but Zhan Yan calculated it based on the manufacturing process and materials. The resulting figure made him a bit dizzy.
What to do… this doesn’t even include labor costs…
While scrolling through gossip feed, Zhan Yan also saw gossip feed from Yang Ran’s side.
[Yang Ran was still uneasy. He said to Zhan Suiru, “How about I bake some more cookies for your brother?”]
[Zhan Suiru expressed that there was no need. She thought your taste had become as eccentric as older brother Zhan Jinli’s, only liking super sweet pastries made by Zhan Jinli.]
So those super delicious cookies were baked by Yang Ran! Use it, ah, use it! His sense of taste was almost destroyed by eating his brother’s bread; give him some normal snacks to restore his taste buds!
[After pondering, Yang Ran expressed that he could add more sugar to the cookies made for the brother.]
Zhan Yan: …
We can’t be friends like this!
He still had to find other ways to save Yang Ran; he couldn’t just rely on suppressors. How great would a brother-in-law who baked cookies for him be? He couldn’t let his sister and brother-in-law only live normal lives inside a secret chamber in the future, right?
Continue farming gossip feed to save up Information Words and upgrade the little stars!
He already knew Ning Xi had prepared suppressors, so there was no need to farm the Organization bar’s energy for now. He didn’t know when the Candle Dragon would wake up to give him a blessing, but every time his “Domain” bar’s little star upgraded, it had something to do with the Candle Dragon.
The first time was dreaming of the Candle Dragon; the second time was learning about the Candle Dragon Loop.
Maybe if he upgraded “Domain” again, he could get something similar to the Candle Dragon’s blessing.
Zhan Yan opened several search tabs. Each tab hung the name or code name of a Network Type currently exploring the Dawn World. The gossip feed refreshed automatically, and the new Information Words these people discovered in the Dawn World would automatically fill into his information dashboard.
Thanks to the new world and these exploring Network Types, letting me experience the feeling of an AFK experience gift pack!
Zhan Yan stared at the refreshing gossip feed for a while and calculated in his heart. Leeching off others’ gossip feed was faster than searching himself, but at this speed, it would still take a long time to fill up a “Domain” star.
Because these Network Types wouldn’t specifically explore the Domains within the Dawn World; they would record many other things at the same time.
If only there was someone dedicated to opening up the map… Hey, I have Network Type abilities too!
Now that the Dawn World’s minor protection mode had been removed, he didn’t have to fear being kicked out by the “Deep Shadow” NPC halfway through exploration.
Zhan Yan opened the Chaofan Forum and opened a private message with the Admin Ling Yu.
Approaching Science: “Are you guys currently exploring the Dawn World?”
“Can you take me along?”
