Chapter 69: Shen Bianye: I’m just a kept man
“Baby.”
On the soft bed, Shen Bianye held Xie Yuanxing’s waist tightly, his tone tinged with a hint of resentment. “This isn’t what we agreed on.”
Xie Yuanxing: “How is it different?”
Shen Bianye said gloomily, “Didn’t we say we’d spend the summer vacation in Z City together, baby.”
“Why do you still have to do a part-time job.”
Xie Yuanxing blinked innocently. “This is Z City.”
“My part-time job is only three hours a day. Aren’t I spending the rest of the time with you?”
He patted Shen Bianye’s hand. “Alright, I have to go to work now.”
Xie Yuanxing hadn’t originally planned to get a part-time job this summer, but a teacher he’d met before recommended a very high-paying tutoring job with short hours, which he found really hard to refuse. It felt like money was falling from the sky, and you just had to reach out and pick it up. With the money from the contract Shen Bianye gave him, Xie Yuanxing wasn’t actually short on money now, but he also liked the process of earning money himself. It gave him the sense of security a hamster gets from hoarding things.
Shen Bianye pulled Xie Yuanxing into his arms and gave him a clingy kiss. “Let me take you to work, baby.”
“Your car isn’t in Z City, so you shouldn’t take me,” Xie Yuanxing shook his head. “You’d take a taxi with me, and then take another taxi back by yourself. That’s how you take a little kid to school.”
Shen Bianye chuckled, coaxing him like a child. “Mmm, baby’s not childish, baby is a grown-up now.”
Xie Yuanxing: …
He pursed his lips and glanced at Shen Bianye, his eyes saying, ‘I wonder who the childish one is.’
Grown-up Xie Yuanxing coolly pushed away Shen Bianye’s hands from his waist, his expression cold, the tear mole beneath his eye seeming to sway. “Good that you know. Let go, the grown-up is going to work now.”
As soon as Xie Yuanxing left, his phone chimed.
Shen Bianye: “Baby’s going out to work, and I’m going back to sleep. It’s like I’m a kept man supported by my baby.”
Xie Yuanxing: “Shh, don’t have such self-deprecating thoughts.”
Shen Bianye: “I’m not being self-deprecating, baby.”
Shen Bianye: “Kept men have to serve their wives well in bed. When will you let me serve you, baby?”
Shen Bianye: “Give me a chance to show you my work abilities, baby.”
No matter how many times it happened, Xie Yuanxing would be startled by Shen Bianye’s suddenly suggestive topics. Caught off guard, the tips of his ears would turn crimson every time.
Xie Yuanxing: “cat_sneaking_away.jpg”
Xie Yuanxing: “Working_now.ing, do not disturb.”
Regarding that sort of thing, Xie Yuanxing wasn’t avoidant, but since he had never experienced it, he was naturally a bit nervous. He had actually already decided to let Shen Bianye decide on his birthday, but Xie Yuanxing wasn’t the type to say suggestive things. He couldn’t bring himself to say it, so he could only adopt an ostrich mentality, thinking he would just wait until Shen Bianye’s birthday.
Inside the cafe, Xie Yuanxing sat on the sofa with his lips pressed into a straight line, his expression blank.
Anyone who was on their way home from work, walking along just fine, almost at their doorstep, only to be semi-forcibly taken to a cafe, wouldn’t have a pleasant expression. Not to mention, placed opposite him was a laptop.
A video call was on the screen. The middle-aged man inside was wearing a custom-tailored suit and glasses, looking very refined. “Nice to meet you for the first time. I am Shen Bianye’s father.”
Xie Yuanxing’s expression was indifferent. “First time meeting? All I see is a laptop.”
Oh, and the menacing bodyguards sitting behind the laptop.
Shen Zheng: “I am very busy. I don’t have time to come to Z City to meet you. I hope you’ll understand.”
Xie Yuanxing: “Since you’re so busy, let’s just hang up.”
He reached out to close the laptop screen, but a bodyguard behind him quickly pulled it back. Xie Yuanxing turned his head, looked at the other bodyguard subtly blocking his way, and silently pursed his lips.
Shen Zheng looked at him with interest. “Knowing that I am Shen Bianye’s father, you shouldn’t have this kind of attitude.”
Xie Yuanxing didn’t give him a pleasant look; his expression even grew colder. “You had people ‘invite’ me here off the street and put a computer in front of me.”
“This is the only attitude I have.”
He wasn’t shown respect, so he wouldn’t respect someone who appeared out of nowhere.
Shen Zheng looked at him for a moment and didn’t dwell on the topic. Taking the time to personally seek out Xie Yuanxing was already a condescension on his part. If he hadn’t heard about the trouble the Zhou family’s kid had recently caused, which served as a warning, he wouldn’t have come looking for Xie Yuanxing at this time. Shen Zheng had originally not taken Xie Yuanxing seriously. In his view, it would be better if Shen Bianye played around for a while and they naturally broke up in a few years. If they didn’t, it would be fine to intervene after Shen Bianye turned twenty-five. But now, he suddenly felt that waiting until Shen Bianye was twenty-five might inadvertently give the two time to cultivate their relationship. A relationship developing to a point where they couldn’t tolerate a child born by someone else was not what he wanted to see. If he were to face another instance of unyielding defiance, where bending was not an option, things would become difficult.
Shen Zheng didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point. “From what I know, Shen Bianye has spent a lot of money on you and lent a lot to a friend of his.”
“It’s possible he’ll lose everything.”
“He might not be able to support your luxurious lifestyle anymore. Why don’t you make a deal with me?”
Xie Yuanxing met his gaze through the screen and calmly asked, “What deal?”
Shen Zheng said lightly, “Don’t worry, I don’t intend to break you up.”
“I’ll give you money. You agree and convince my son to have a child with someone else.”
“I want an heir. You give me an heir. Apart from that, I don’t care what you two do.”
Xie Yuanxing looked at the refined middle-aged man on the screen, and a sudden wave of revulsion washed over him, making him furrow his brow. This person spoke so casually. When talking about his own son, it was no different from talking about a machine for breeding children. It was disgusting.
Xie Yuanxing suppressed his revulsion and said flatly, “Can you let me think about it?”
“How much will you give?”
Shen Zheng chuckled. “Enough to let you live in comfort for the rest of your life.”
“How long do you need to consider?”
Xie Yuanxing said perfunctorily, “Just wait a moment.”
While speaking, his hands were typing furiously under the table, his speed unusually fast.
Xie Yuanxing: “cat_peeking.jpg”
Xie Yuanxing: “Are_you_there?_Are_you_there?_Are_you_there?.jpg”
Shen Bianye: “Baby, I’m here. What’s wrong?”
Shen Bianye: “Are you getting off work? Should I come pick you up?”
Xie Yuanxing: “Your dad found me. Says he’ll give me money.”
Shen Bianye: “Is he brain-dead?”
Shen Bianye: “What’s he playing at? Some ‘I’ll give you a million to leave my son’ drama?”
Shen Bianye: “Baby, don’t listen to him. When he dies, it’s all mine, baby.”
Xie Yuanxing looked glumly at the screen as three consecutive messages popped up. He didn’t understand how Shen Bianye could still type faster than him even though he had sped up. He typed the last character and sent the message he was editing.
Xie Yuanxing: “He wants me to agree and convince you to have a child with someone else to be his heir.”
Shen Bianye: “…..Baby, don’t talk to idiots. Where are you? I’m coming right now.”
Xie Yuanxing sent his location and then typed, “I want to ask, can I agree to it, take the money, and not do what he asks?”
Shen Bianye headed towards the location while looking down at his phone. He couldn’t help but laugh when he saw that sentence.
Shen Bianye: “Does our Xingxing baby want to be naughty?”
He no longer said Xie Yuanxing had a dark mind. His smiling and doting voice was converted into plain text by the voice-to-text function. Xie Yuanxing couldn’t judge the tone from the text, but he also didn’t feel it was derogatory.
Xie Yuanxing: “I don’t think he treats you well.”
“It’s free money, might as well take it. Even just getting the deposit would be good.”
Shen Bianye’s heart suddenly softened, and even his annoyance at Shen Zheng going behind his back to find Xie Yuanxing calmed down a bit.
…No, he was still angry.
What right did Shen Zheng have to go to his wife?
Shen Bianye: “Baby, you can’t take this money.”
Xie Yuanxing pursed his lips, thought for a moment, and felt that was right. It was essentially fraud, which probably wasn’t good.
The next second, a new message popped up.
Shen Bianye: “That guy, Shen Zheng, might actually sue you for fraud.”
“Let me do it instead, baby. He can’t send me to jail.”
For some reason, seeing these two sentences, Xie Yuanxing wanted to laugh, but the amusement was mixed with a sense of speechlessness and complexity. Shen Bianye’s father probably really didn’t treat him well.
Shen Zheng on the other side of the video call tapped his knuckles on the table impatiently. “Have you considered it? My time is limited.”
“You should know, there’s no downside to this for you.”
He added a threat on top of the lure. “If you don’t agree, your future with my son might not be as good as you think.”
“Shen Bianye has lent all his money to his friend. I can also find ways to freeze his other assets. I guarantee I can leave you two penniless.”
“At that time, will Shen Bianye resent you for making him live such a poor life?”
“Besides, next semester he’ll be a junior, about to graduate. Do you want him to go out into the world, groveling for a living, and be looked down upon? He’s a spoiled person, unlike you.”
“If he regrets it and dumps you, you’ll get nothing.”
Xie Yuanxing slowly picked up his coffee cup, took a slow sip, and slowly put it down. He was thinking of what to say to stall for time. His dawdling movements at this moment had an extra bit of infuriating quality.
Shen Bianye had come up behind him at some point and said with a laugh, “Is my baby cosplaying a sloth? So cute.”
Xie Yuanxing turned his head, his eyes surprised. “You were so fast.”
Although the cafe was just downstairs from their apartment complex, arriving so quickly was still surprising.
Shen Bianye sat next to him, met Shen Zheng’s eyes on the video, and sneered after just one glance. “How much are you planning to give?”
“I agree to it.”
Shen Zheng said in a deep voice, “I hope you two discuss it properly before giving me an answer.”
He wasn’t an idiot. Shen Bianye had arrived in such a short time, and the person who had been so resistant before had agreed immediately. No one would take that statement seriously.
Since Shen Bianye had arrived, his conversation with Xie Yuanxing could no longer continue. After saying that, Shen Zheng hung up the video call directly. The bodyguards also left after the call ended. Shen Bianye glanced at them, his expression cold.
Then he turned his head and said to Xie Yuanxing, “Baby, don’t listen to Shen Zheng’s bullshit.”
Xie Yuanxing: …
Shen Bianye: “Even if he really can freeze my assets, I would never regret it because of this.”
Xie Yuanxing’s eyes showed some surprise. “You heard that?”
Shen Bianye: “I heard.”
“Baby,” he started, then paused. “I was afraid Shen Zheng would say some bad things to you, so I ran all the way here.”
He knew Xie Yuanxing wouldn’t abandon him so easily, but he knew all too well what it felt like to be abandoned. Running over was pure instinct.
“Sure enough, as soon as I got here, I heard him slandering me.” Shen Bianye tried to sound casual, but when he spoke again, there was a hidden plea in his voice. “Don’t listen to him, baby.”
His expression was serious. He leaned close to Xie Yuanxing’s face and kissed him below the eye. “I can make a living too, baby. I’m not as useless as he says.”
Xie Yuanxing thought for a moment and also replied seriously, “It’s okay. Even if you regret it, I won’t let you go.”
“Even if you can’t make a living, it’s okay.”
“I can support you.”
He said it very seriously, from the bottom of his heart. Xie Yuanxing knew Shen Bianye only had a few years left, and he didn’t want to see him struggle excessively with life. Every day from now on could be like today: he would go to work, and Shen Bianye would wait at home for him to return. Xie Yuanxing had never once considered agreeing to the conditions his father proposed, not even for a moment. He could never accept Shen Bianye having a child with someone else.
As soon as Xie Yuanxing finished speaking, his hand was grabbed. A scorching heat was transmitted from that hand, along with an urgent pulling force.
Shen Bianye said hoarsely, “Baby, let’s go back.”
“Preferably quickly, baby.”
Xie Yuanxing was taken aback. “What’s wrong?”
“Is there something urgent?”
Did he remember something important, or did he want to go back and confront his father…
Shen Bianye’s eyes were bright, faintly burning, and he said with a sigh, “Baby, you said such cute things in front of me.”
“A qualified kept man must seize the opportunity to show his baby his work abilities.”
