FIMA Ch7: One-on-One
Huo Yi tugged at Xie Qingxiao’s sleeve in extreme excitement: “It went in, it really went in! The Academic God actually knows how to play basketball too, he’s so amazing…”
Xie Qingxiao secretly glanced at Gu Siyuan, who still had a placid expression, and a faint, almost imperceptible smile curled the corners of his mouth.
Shan Kai retrieved the basketball, bounced it lightly a few times, and began to shoot his second three-pointer. But whether his emotions had been affected by Gu Siyuan’s performance just now, given his level of skill, the ball actually hit the rim, deflected, and flew out.
“Fuck…” Shan Kai and his lackeys couldn’t help but curse.
Gu Siyuan’s expression didn’t change. Just like the last shot, he lightly bounced the ball, casually glanced at the hoop, and after bouncing it about four times, he leaped into the air once again.
With a swish, the basketball flew out in another perfect arc, went straight into the hoop, and landed.
Without a doubt, it was another swish three-pointer, looking even more graceful and natural than the last one.
“Fuck—”
“Fuck, fuck, this kid isn’t relying on fucking luck…”
“This kid actually has some real skills!”
“No wonder he dared to provoke Brother Kai!”
Shan Kai’s bad influences couldn’t help but exclaim.
Huo Yi also couldn’t control his emotions: “Ah, Gu Siyuan is so handsome! Qingxiao, don’t you agree?!”
“Mn.” Xie Qingxiao couldn’t help but lightly clap his hands.
Shan Kai, however, was in no mood to care about any of this. He gave Gu Siyuan a deep look. Then, he calmly began to shoot his third ball. Perhaps knowing that Gu Siyuan wasn’t relying on luck turned his pressure into motivation; this time he actually found his touch and successfully sank the three-pointer.
After shooting, he immediately looked at Gu Siyuan.
But he saw that Gu Siyuan still had that lazy, casual look. From the first shot until now, not even his gaze had changed. On the sports court, the clearly out-of-place formal dress shirt and suit trousers uniform instead added an indescribable, captivating charm to him.
Gu Siyuan also began to shoot his third ball.
It was still the same elegant arc as always, still a clean and crisp swish, and even the sound of it hitting the ground was just as pleasing to the ear.
Gu Siyuan looked at Shan Kai: “Still want to compete?”
As he spoke, he suddenly took the ball and stepped back several paces, retreating all the way beyond the half-court line. “Let’s not make this so troublesome; how about something with a bit of difficulty?”
“This guy wouldn’t be…” someone gasped slightly.
Just as they were speaking, Gu Siyuan’s toes lightly pushed off the ground, and he elegantly jumped once more.
“It really is a half-court shot.”
“Fuck, this guy…”
“He’s such a show-off!”
Watching the long arc the basketball traced through the air, the atmosphere became much more heated than before, with one exclamation following another.
A half-court shot could sometimes appear as an earth-shattering moment in certain basketball games, giving people something to talk about with great relish for a long time. However, this kind of thing usually required luck and touch. The more seriously one pursued it, the harder it was to achieve.
“Ah, it seems there’s still no difficulty…” Gu Siyuan frowned slightly, watching the basketball fall straight into the hoop just like always.
“Ahhh… So handsome!”
A wave of screams echoed from the entrance of the basketball gym. Because today’s holiday coincided with the rain, there were still quite a few people lingering around the school. Passing by and seeing people competing, they naturally stopped to watch.
Being great at basketball wasn’t scary, but an Academic God being this great at basketball was something people would talk about with great relish. And if this person also had an outstanding temperament and top-tier looks, it was enough to make the vast majority of Omegas in the whole school scream their lungs out.
Gu Siyuan held the basketball in his palm, looking at Shan Kai as he asked indifferently, “Is there any need to continue?”
“Hmph. What does knowing a few flashy moves count for? Basketball isn’t just as simple as shooting…” Shan Kai still refused to give up. How could he, a dignified member of the school basketball team, lose to a nobody? How would he have the face to step onto the court in the future?
Gu Siyuan cast him a sidelong glance and nodded: “Fine, defeated opponent. What do you want to do?”
Shan Kai glared at him viciously: “Real men go one-on-one.”
“Sure, but it can’t just be whatever you say. If we go another round, there has to be a wager,” Gu Siyuan said lazily. The basketball that was resting in his palm just a moment ago lightly hopped onto the tip of his slender index finger and began to spin leisurely.
“Such a show-off.” Shan Kai rolled his eyes and sneered: “A wager it is. What are we betting?”
“Don’t worry, if you lose, I won’t make you accompany me to sing and drink.” Gu Siyuan’s expression was cold. “Just from now on, whenever you see Xie Qingxiao, take a detour.”
He remembered that in his past life, after Xie Qingxiao completely tore his face off with Shen Ting in the end, it seemed he had grouped up with Shan Kai’s gang to stir up trouble. They really had gotten to know each other through conflict.
“Hmph!” Shan Kai’s face turned slightly cold.
“Ah… he’s so smooth, Gu Siyuan…” Huo Yi couldn’t help but exclaim in a low voice. “A show-off, yet so considerate.”
Xie Qingxiao looked at Gu Siyuan’s cold and handsome face and gently bit his lip.
“If you agree, let’s begin.” Gu Siyuan threw the ball to the ground and started to roll up his sleeves.
“Fine.” Shan Kai gritted his teeth and nodded. “Then if I win, not only does Xie Qingxiao have to go drink and sing with us today, from now on, whenever you see me, you have to call me ‘Big Bro’ and then take a detour.”
“I can only make decisions for myself, not for him.” Gu Siyuan shook his head with absolute self-assurance.
Xie Qingxiao paused for a moment, then almost without hesitation looked at Shan Kai and said, “I agree.”
“Very good.” Shan Kai’s eyes burned like torches.
Gu Siyuan: “Who attacks first?”
Shan Kai said coldly: “Best two out of three. I’ll let you go first, lest people say I’m bullying you.”
Gu Siyuan’s tone grew even flatter: “Want to bully me? Even if you reincarnate it would be impossible. Just don’t look for other excuses after this is over.”
This attitude was truly extremely arrogant.
Gu Siyuan jogged two steps lightly to adjust to the leather shoes on his feet. Then he bent over and started dribbling. Shan Kai moved in front of him with extreme speed to defend and intercept.
“This kid really doesn’t know the immensity of heaven and earth. Does he think playing basketball is just like taking a test?”
“Brother Kai is the block king of our team, the Right-Wing Killer. Aside from the captain, who hasn’t suffered losses at his hands? Yet this kid…” A lackey said arrogantly.
Xie Qingxiao coldly swept a glance over them.
Those guys subconsciously felt a twinge of guilt in their hearts at first, but then remembering that this was just a frail Omega, what did they have to be afraid of? They immediately glared back with even fiercer looks.
However, by this time, Xie Qingxiao’s attention had already returned to Gu Siyuan on the court.
Shan Kai stared at the person opposite him with full concentration. He had already noticed that Gu Siyuan had a habitual movement: whenever he moved to the right, his eyes would flick in the opposite direction.
Because of human nature, the right hand and right foot are generally more agile. So when breaking through in basketball, breaking to the right is more agile and smooth. He was nicknamed the “Right-Wing Killer” precisely because his eyesight was excellent. He could easily spot his opponents’ habits and could often block them in advance just as they were preparing to break through.
Right at this moment, Shan Kai saw Gu Siyuan’s habitual movement appear, and he immediately moved quickly to block the right.
But the next moment, the figure vanished towards the left. Shan Kai instantly realized he had been fooled and immediately turned to block, but by this time, Gu Siyuan had already jumped up swiftly.
A high three-pointer arc swept across, and the white net shifted lightly.
“Bingo!”
This play was much more thrilling than just standing still and shooting. Even on Xie Qingxiao’s cold and unworldly face, a rare, excited pink flush appeared.
Shan Kai clenched his fists as he watched: “You…”
“Right-Wing Killer?” As Gu Siyuan softly spat out this edgy nickname, his lips couldn’t help but twitch. He said lightly: “However, what a pity. I am left-handed.”
“Bah!” Shan Kai cursed lightly.
Such fucking bad luck, to actually run into a lefty. He said coldly: “Don’t think you’ve won just because of one time. Offense and defense switch now. It’s my turn to attack.”
Gu Siyuan didn’t retort, silently bending down to start defending. Shan Kai followed by half-squatting, his palm rhythmically bouncing the basketball.
Shan Kai’s basketball fundamentals were relatively solid. In a short amount of time, his body steadily feinted left and right, throwing constant fake-outs.
However, the person in front of him was like a wall of bronze and iron. No matter which side he stepped towards to dodge, he would find the person blocking him. Shan Kai wasn’t a patient person. After continuing for a while, sweat gradually started forming on his forehead.
After another moment, thinking about how he had actively proposed the one-on-one, and thinking about Gu Siyuan’s previous performance, he hardened his heart. Casting all caution aside, he directly rammed hard into the figure in front of him. Since he couldn’t break through, he would force a path open himself.
Under the violent collision, the figure in front indeed slowed down for a split second.
Seizing this instant, Shan Kai leaped up from where he stood. However, before the basketball could leave his hands, he saw an even taller dark shadow rise in front of his eyes. The next moment, a violent tremor came from his arm, and the basketball was knocked out of his hands.
“Ah…”
“God, he got blocked.”
“Fuck, the boss actually got blocked!”
“The boss actually…”
“It’s one thing for the Academic God to be strong, but he’s not even 1.9 meters tall, right? How is his vertical jump so amazing?”
After landing on the ground, Shan Kai’s face was deathly pale. He still couldn’t quite process it.
How could this happen? He was actually blocked by a bookworm?
Another round of offense and defense switched. Gu Siyuan attacked, and this time, he successfully broke through from the right side.
Watching the figure soaring through the air, Shan Kai’s expression completely changed. Who would have thought that a guy who, in their eyes, only knew how to study to death every day, would actually be this amazing at both fighting and basketball.
“Actually, both my left and right hands are equally convenient to use.” Gu Siyuan landed steadily and lightly, stating expressionlessly: “Two wins. It’s over.”
