Chapter 91: Both of Their Lips Were Split.
All the discussions were shut out by the closed door after they entered the room.
Lin Xi casually took off his jacket and threw it aside. He leaned back against the door with his arms crossed and raised an eyebrow leisurely: “So this was your intention for being so busy right after getting off the plane? Me, the golden canary kept by President Yan, the pretty boy?”
Yan Xingzhou answered with a question: “Do you mind?”
“No, I’m quite satisfied.” Lin Xi looked at the person before him with a smile. “This connection to President Yan of the Wan Yuan Group is not something just anyone can climb onto. It just so happens to let the people of the Third Administration know that their new director has such a big backer. I can borrow your momentum to straighten out the military discipline.”
“It seems your promotion and takeover didn’t go smoothly either.” Yan Xingzhou instantly understood. “If you need it, I don’t mind showing up at your mission sites more often to make my presence felt.”
“As long as it’s not the United Administration headquarters, you don’t mind making a public appearance, right?” Lin Xi chuckled at this and walked slowly to the bed to sit down. “When we sent Su Qiuyin back today, I could see that Gu Beiqiu was quite looking forward to having a meeting with you. After all, to resist the tide of rifts, it’s highly likely they’ll need equipment support from the Wan Yuan Group. He didn’t want to see only me show up. The disappointment was practically visible, it made me feel a little sorry for our dear Executive Officer.”
Yan Xingzhou was noncommittal: “Instead of feeling sorry for others, you might as well feel a little more sorry for yourself, former Executive Officer. Although I knew you were a workaholic before, it seems unnecessary for you to be in such a hurry to take over right after getting appointed.”
Lin Xi immediately picked up on the sarcasm in his words and said knowingly, “It seems President Yan has been waiting for me here and got impatient…”
The rest of his words were cut short by a gentle touch on his temple.
“When it comes to waiting for you, I’m never impatient. If only you could pay more attention to your own condition, I wouldn’t have to feel dissatisfied.” Yan Xingzhou had walked to Lin Xi’s side and said slowly, “You and I are both well aware of Su Qiuyin’s selfish intentions in letting you take over the Third Administration. Similarly, you should also know what I’m most worried about.”
Lin Xi replied: “Don’t worry, I always know my limits.”
“…” After a short silence, Yan Xingzhou let out a soft laugh. “Know your limits, are you sure?”
“Ahem.” Lin Xi cleared his throat softly. “I promise you, I’ll try my best not to enter the rifts personally, alright? If you’re really that worried, you might as well have Assistant Ju monitor me 24/7, or maybe I’ll have to trouble President Yan to personally be my portable accessory?”
“You only say that because you know it’s impossible, right?” Yan Xingzhou mercilessly exposed Lin Xi’s feigned generosity. “Right now, rifts are constantly breaking out all over the country and even the world. There’s a whole lot of things left at the group that I need to handle. The reason I made a special trip here today to show my face was, on one hand, as you said, to declare my sovereignty to the public, and on the other hand—you should have guessed it, I’m here to say goodbye.”
His massaging motion on Lin Xi’s temple paused slightly, as if in thought: “I’m afraid I’ll need to be away for a short period. Your side…”
“When did you become so concerned?” Lin Xi smiled and grabbed Yan Xingzhou’s hand, pulling it forward. He felt the strong heartbeat from the chest pressing against his back and tilted his head up to get closer. “As for my side, right before you leave, I’ll give you a little comfort.”
The moment they drew close, soft lips touched, and the muffled words melted into a deepening kiss: “It just so happens I should be busy next as well. Let’s just each… struggle alone for our own responsibilities for a while.”
Under the gradually heating breaths, the two tall figures, with their lingering kiss, had unknowingly fallen onto the bed.
Yan Xingzhou followed Lin Xi’s movement and leaned back, naturally pressing down on top of him, staring intently into the pair of eyes that treated everything with a casual air.
The dense kisses were more of an expression of emotion. When they parted again, a layer of complex emotion that only the other could understand was in their eyes.
In fact, up until now, the development of events could be said to be completely in line with their expectations. As long as Lin Xi could smoothly enter the United Administration, making contact with the Central Research Institute was only a matter of time. However, the sudden outbreak of this tide of rifts was obviously too abrupt. Before this, no one had expected that such a crisis would break out so suddenly and fiercely, giving not only them, but all of humanity, no chance to buffer and prepare.
Busy.
Once this busy period started, who knew how long it would last.
Lin Xi met Yan Xingzhou’s gaze and asked with a smile, “President Yan, are there any other instructions? Although it’s broad daylight, if you wish, I don’t mind satisfying you properly one more time before we part.”
Yan Xingzhou did not answer: “Did you know that sometimes, the more you use this teasing tone, the more it means you’re planning to do something willful.”
“Is that so.” Lin Xi raised an eyebrow. “Then, what are you going to do? Hiss—!”
Lin Xi never expected Yan Xingzhou to suddenly bite him. Caught completely off guard, a faint trace of blood seeped from the wound on his soft lips, and the faint taste of iron instantly spread through his mouth.
“I won’t do anything. I will only return to your side at the first possible moment, regardless of any consequences.” Yan Xingzhou felt his phone vibrate, picked it up, and glanced at the message from Ju Ze. He slowly got up from the bed and satisfactorily admired the masterpiece left on Lin Xi’s lips. “Then I’ll be leaving first. I hope that the next time we meet, you won’t give me too big of a ‘surprise’.”
He was about to get off the bed when he was pulled back by a force.
The next second, along with the faint smell of blood, a painful sensation caused his usual aura to instantly dissipate.
After Lin Xi let him go, Yan Xingzhou stood by the bed and touched the blood on his lips with a lowered gaze: “…Tit for tat. You really haven’t changed at all.”
“I consider it returning a courtesy.” Lin Xi leaned against the headboard and made a “please” gesture with a smile. “Go to work with peace of mind, great President Yan.”
Yan Xingzhou glanced at Lin Xi. His expression clearly said, “Do you think I can be at ease,” but in the end, he didn’t say anything. He waved his hand, casually took the jacket hanging nearby, threw it over his shoulders, and pushed the door open to leave.
Lin Xi watched Yan Xingzhou’s back disappear around the corner with a calm gaze, and wiped the wound on his lips with a half-smile.
A moment later, his eyebrows slowly raised, and he also got up and walked out of the room.
Standing by the corridor and looking down, he could see Yan Xingzhou get into the black sedan and drive away.
Director-level staff could have a complete suite in the dormitory area. The staff Yan Xingzhou brought were still busy moving the furniture and appliances carefully selected by a certain President. Because of this, the floor where Lin Xi was located appeared to be under much scrutiny.
After Yan Xingzhou left his room, Lin Xi could feel that the already heated discussions about him had become even more explosive.
It was obvious that others had also noticed the “injury” on President Yan’s lips when he left. Coupled with Lin Xi’s appearance, not to mention anything else, the look of his lips was a perfect match.
Both of their lips were split.
It was hard not to have very reasonable associations about what had happened in the room in that short period. The so-called kept pretty boy seemed to be further confirmed from the side.
In the residential building directly opposite, the corridor windows were also filled with many people watching the excitement. They were just getting into the gossip when someone caught sight of a figure coming out of the elevator from the corner of their eye and greeted with a smile: “Yo, Big Su is back! Come and see, I heard the director of the Third Administration has been changed. Your future boss is moving in across the way!”
The newcomer’s name was Chen Sunian. He had heard many rumors about this new director on his way here. His face already lacked any trace of a smile. Following the words, he glanced at the floor opposite, and his expression immediately became even uglier: “What future boss? The door to the Third Administration can’t be entered just by connections.”
The others found this amusing: “Didn’t they say the appointment has already been issued?”
“Appointment?” Chen Sunian snorted softly. Before turning to walk into his dormitory room, he only left a sentence in a low tone, “Don’t worry, he won’t last long.”
