Zhan Yunkai hung up the phone, a smile still lingering on his face.

He was currently at the set of Xia Yuexian’s filming. The Wan Yao Alliance still needed a few days to study that growing anomaly, so he had some time to finish his filming tasks.

Zhan Yunkai, under his alias as an ordinary person, worked as a small-time actor with little recognition, which made it easy for him to leave under the excuse of filming with the crew. As a small-time actor, his filming tasks wouldn’t take up much of his time, and a few days of shooting was enough to maintain his identity.

Before Zhan Yunkai made the call, Xia Yuexian was on the other side of the set, looking at her phone with a curious smile on her face.

She was on the Chaofan Forum, reading fanfiction—specifically, the one written by “No CP, No Happiness” about the Tianshi and the Chongming Demon King.

Xia Yuexian had been following this fanfiction for a while. At first, she clicked on it out of curiosity.

Someone was writing fanfiction about the Chongming Demon King! She had to see what it was like.

At first, she just read it for fun, comparing the characters to the big-shot figures around her, laughing for hours each time. But as she kept reading, she realized that “No CP, No Happiness” actually wrote quite well.

If you removed the original prototypes of the “Tianshi” and the “Chongming Demon King,” and just looked at the story itself, the plot development was logical, and the love-hate dynamic was engaging. The characters were easy to ship, as long as you ignored the original prototypes.

Xia Yuexian simply chose to ignore the prototypes and treat it as an original story. After all, “No CP, No Happiness” had almost zero understanding of the “Tianshi” and the “Chongming Demon King,” and wrote the story purely from imagination—she even got the genders wrong.

Tianshi always wore a large robe and a mask during missions, while the Chongming Demon King only appeared in his demon form. Without any prior knowledge, one wouldn’t even know their gender.

Xia Yuexian was reading happily when suddenly a phone call came in. She picked up the phone, and her expression immediately soured.

Meanwhile, Zhan Yunkai had just hung up the phone when he saw Xia Yuexian rush over. “Help me out in a pinch! Can you come to the set?”

Xia Yuexian, being a transformed Heart Moon Fox, naturally enjoyed mingling with people and playing with their emotions. She had set up a film company for her own amusement. Zhan Yunkai’s identity as an ordinary person was largely handled by Xia Yuexian, and his actor role was also under her company. Their relationship had always been good, so Zhan Yunkai was happy to help her out with small tasks. However…

“You know my acting isn’t great,” Zhan Yunkai said.

The Chongming Demon King was a martial type, and his acting skills were close to zero. All his “acting business” had been used to pretend to be an ordinary person in front of his wife and kids.

Zhan Yunkai was in the entertainment industry mainly for his looks. Xia Yuexian had arranged for him to take on roles that required little expression. He didn’t need to climb the entertainment ladder and just treated it as an ordinary job.

“It’s a role that doesn’t need acting skills,” Xia Yuexian said. “There aren’t many scenes, maybe just two or three days of shooting.”

Zhan Yunkai nodded. The set was in a hurry, so they put aside their current filming and planned to return after finishing the other one—after all, Xia Yuexian was the big boss who funded the project, so she could arrange things however she liked.

On the way, Xia Yuexian explained the situation in detail.

The emergency film was one that Xia Yuexian was collaborating on with someone else. The other party had insisted on adding a rising young star to the cast. Xia Yuexian saw that it was just a small role with little screen time and no need for acting skills, so she agreed. The young star, however, turned out to be a troublemaker. First, he claimed his schedule was packed and demanded the crew adjust the shooting schedule for his scenes. Then, after joining the set, he felt his scenes weren’t enough and secretly brought in a scriptwriter to add more scenes for himself.

This situation made Xia Yuexian angry. She had been reading a crucial part of the fanfiction, ready to dive into a “prison play,” when she was suddenly interrupted by this annoying matter.

However, “No CP, No Happiness” didn’t completely stray from the original characters. The Chongming Demon King’s transformed form was indeed very beautiful, and his original form was quite magnificent, with a noble and elegant human form.

The Chongming was a divine bird, once worshipped by people in ancient times. The Demon King had the fierce aura of a demon, but also the solemnity of a deity. If Zhan Yunkai hadn’t intentionally restrained his aura and lowered his presence, his appearance alone would have made it nearly impossible for him to live as an ordinary person.

Xia Yuexian’s characters were always well-received, and every time she cast him, people would eagerly call out to “lick the screen.”

The troublemaking young star was named Ling Yuteng. Xia Yuexian didn’t tolerate his behavior and immediately kicked him out. She was only collaborating with others because she enjoyed it; she didn’t lack investment or channels. But while she played around, she didn’t want her works to be affected by this hobby. She had a bit of an obsessive-compulsive disorder when it came to aesthetics. Creating bad works was an insult to the audience, and more importantly, it was an insult to her own taste!

However, the production team had already adjusted the shooting schedule for Ling Yuteng, and all that was left were some unimportant shots and his scenes. Finding someone else at this point would be nearly impossible, and every day of delay meant burning money.

Ling Yuteng had played this trick knowing that they couldn’t afford further delays. Of course, Xia Yuexian had the funds to drag it out, but this was just too disgusting.

Zhan Yunkai listened half-heartedly to Xia Yuexian’s complaints while flipping through the script. With the Demon King’s memory, one read-through was enough to memorize all the lines.

The role was a good one—a perfect character of a dead “white moonlight” with little screen time but a lot of fan appeal. It was a role that was very likable to the audience, but Zhan Yunkai didn’t care much about that.

By the time they left, it was already dark. When they arrived at the set, there wasn’t much time for shooting, so they could only quickly do a makeup test to see how it looked.

The crew was shooting night scenes, and when they saw the boss bringing in a middle-aged handsome man, they immediately guessed he was the one the boss had brought in to save the day. However… they had just seen Ling Yuteng’s makeup test earlier that day, and the age difference between the two was almost a whole generation. Would this work? Ling Yuteng’s character aside, at least he was good-looking, or Xia Yuexian wouldn’t have agreed to let him play the role.

Everyone secretly or openly scrutinized Zhan Yunkai, but the Demon King remained calm, his mind still on the dumplings and braised pork in the fridge, wondering how long they would last. The kids at home had big appetites, and he hoped they wouldn’t finish it all and leave his wife hungry…

Xia Yuexian personally escorted him to the makeup room, arranged everything, and then went out to find the director.

Since this was a joint production, many of the crew members weren’t from her team, so she needed to give them some instructions.

With a smile, Xia Yuexian walked over to Director Liu: “Director Liu, Zhan’s acting style is quite unique. When you direct him, be more specific about positioning and actions; he can do whatever you want. As for the lines, don’t be too strict; he can make up for it in other ways. I brought him in to help, so please bear with me.”

Director Liu understood. He was dealing with someone who couldn’t act, and he had to be polite. He was already frustrated with the previous mess and didn’t want to bring in another big shot. However, Xia Yuexian had promised that even if the other party withdrew their investment, she could cover it, so he had to give her some face. At least this person hadn’t asked for any changes to the script. The role was a vase-like one that didn’t require acting skills, so as long as the makeup looked good, the lines didn’t matter. Xia Yuexian had already made it clear that he would use dubbing, so Director Liu wasn’t expecting much. As long as the final product was acceptable, that was enough.

Director Liu raised his brows: “Alright. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he’s taken care of.”

Xia Yuexian could tell from his expression that he still held a grudge. She glanced at the assistant director, who nodded at her, and Xia Yuexian felt reassured. The assistant director was from her company and knew how to handle things.

Back in the makeup room, Zhan Yunkai’s makeup had already been done.

The makeup artist, a newcomer to working with Zhan Yunkai, had been staring at his face for a while, and after applying a few strokes, she shook her head and wiped them off.

“You’re just too good-looking,” the makeup artist exclaimed. “Your skin is amazing, so delicate, like you’re in your late teens or early twenties. How do you take care of your skin?”

Zhan Yunkai never bothered with skincare, but he knew how to respond to the topic. He casually listed off the skincare products that Xia Yuexian had bought and left lying around.

“These are used by quite a few people, but the results are just so-so. Looks like it’s really your genes,” the makeup artist concluded enviously. “Let me tell you, there aren’t many people in the industry with good skin. When you see people on camera, it’s all makeup. With all the makeup and late nights, it’s rare to see anyone with good skin.”

“You didn’t even give me a chance to apply foundation. I don’t even know how to do your makeup.”

From a distance, it was hard to notice, but up close, it was clear that his skin and bone structure were flawless, with a natural charm that left little room for any adjustments.

Zhan Yunkai smiled slightly. “My wife is the real beauty.”

The makeup artist was momentarily surprised, then remembered that this actor with such an extraordinary face was no longer a young idol, and it was unnecessary to hide the fact that he was married, especially since he didn’t care about fans’ reactions to it.

She silently swallowed the “dog food” (a term for public displays of affection): “Your kids must be good-looking too.”

“They are, they’re all very good-looking,” Zhan Yunkai said, smiling happily.

As a Demon King, the stronger the being, the harder it was to leave descendants, especially since his true form was the Chongming Divine Bird. All three of his children were adopted, but none of them were ugly.

His eldest always wore a mask, and when he took it off and cut his bangs, he revealed himself to be a handsome young man.

The makeup artist studied Zhan Yunkai’s face, unsure of how to proceed with the makeup, but she couldn’t leave it unfinished. In the end, she just extended the eyeliner a little, added some eyeshadow, and made his lip color bolder.

When Xia Yuexian entered, she immediately praised, “The makeup looks great!”

The makeup artist couldn’t bring herself to claim credit: “It’s because he’s good-looking! He’s good-looking!”

“I think this makeup looks perfect. Shall we try the costume?” Xia Yuexian said. She gestured, and the makeup artist stepped out.

Zhan Yunkai looked at the costume hanging on the rack, his expression showing mild distaste.

The Chongming Demon King had a cleanliness obsession and wouldn’t wear clothes that others had worn. In the past, Xia Yuexian had custom-made his costumes. But since this was an urgent situation, there was no time for that. Xia Yuexian took out a plain white new outfit from her pocket, and with a flick of her finger, enchanting moonlight flowed over the fabric, transforming it into a perfect replica of the costume on the rack.

“Your illusion skills are getting better,” Zhan Yunkai remarked.

Xia Yuexian smiled playfully. “That’s because I handle all the special effects for the company.”

After she conjured the accessories as well, she left the makeup room and waited for Zhan Yunkai to change.

This was the perfect moment for her to finish reading the fanfiction. What happened after the “Tianshi” captured the “Chongming Demon King”?

Xia Yuexian opened the forum and clicked on her saved collection…

??? Where’s my story?!

Xia Yuexian quickly scrolled through the forum’s spam section. In the time it took to switch to a new set, her story was gone, and the author apparently hadn’t backed it up. The forum had also introduced a “teen mode,” where unverified users could only browse for two hours.

The world had changed so much. Xia Yuexian briefly mourned the loss of her story before starting to investigate what this “teen mode” was about. On the homepage, there was a post mentioning that the forum’s “teen mode” was an intrusion.

Heh, how could that be? She was more inclined to believe that the forum’s abnormal management team had suddenly gone crazy.

Xia Yuexian clicked on the post.

The first post was a detailed explanation of the anomaly from the user “Approaching Science,” followed by either sarcastic comments or memes. Clicking on “View Only Original Post,” she found that this new account had posted and never replied again.

Then, the second layer became a pinned post by the administrators:

“Thanks to the post by ‘Approaching Science,’ we have confirmed that the sudden appearance of ‘Teen Mode’ on the forum was caused by a Class B anomaly. The anomaly has now been apprehended.”

Xia Yuexian: Eye tremor.

Was the forum really invaded by an anomaly?
