ATAVID CH121
Looking back now, his former restrained, polite, and ascetic demeanor seemed like a perfect disguise.
After his memory was jumbled, these disguises broke down completely.
In their place was an extraordinarily intense possessiveness and an insatiable appetite in the bedroom.
For example, in the past, if he showed even a slight hint of fatigue, Wei Xun would stop making things difficult for him. Instead, he would thoughtfully pull out, finish quickly on his own, and hold him while taking him to wash up.
Now, even when he was crying and saying he couldn’t take it anymore, Wei Xun would thrust in even deeper, coaxing him that if he was tired, he could just sleep for a bit.
Jiang Qunyu even suspected whether he had been swapped out for someone else inside. Otherwise, how could he be completely different from before?
Yet, the small, subtle habits embedded in daily life couldn’t be faked.
Wei Xun remained distant and cold toward others, exuding his usual long-standing chilly aura. His severe mysophobia hadn’t changed a bit either, as he would always subconsciously pick out every single green pepper at the dinner table.
When facing elders from both families, he remained flawlessly polite, calm, and poised—the perfect noble family heir that no one could find fault with.
Everything went on as usual, except toward Jiang Qunyu.
So, Jiang Qunyu didn’t even know who he could vent to.
Fortunately, the doctor’s diagnosis during the follow-up visit was relatively optimistic, slightly soothing his anxiety.
After reviewing the various test reports carefully, the doctor stated clearly that Wei Xun had no physical brain damage and all his bodily functions were intact.
The reason for such a strange cognitive bias was simply a brain stress sequela caused by the impact of the car accident. The violent impact had stimulated the cranial nerves, resulting in a temporary confusion and displacement of memory. It was neither amnesia nor a psychiatric condition.
As long as he rested quietly and his emotions gradually settled, the jumbled memories and cognition would step-by-step return to normal, taking not too long to recover.
Jiang Qunyu asked, “Then why does he think he’s the third party in our relationship?”
The doctor paused, phrasing it as simply as possible: “It’s better explained as a cognitive displacement triggered by psychological stress. When a person suffers a severe shock, the insecurity and fear hidden in their subconscious can easily be amplified infinitely. Deep down, he has actually always been afraid of a certain outcome happening. The shock of the car accident happened to act as a trigger, and his brain subconsciously mistook this most feared illusion for a memory that actually occurred.”
“To put it simply, he stamped the result he feared most in his subconscious as an established fact into his mind. Afterward, his words and actions naturally follow this fictional memory by instinct.”
Jiang Qunyu choked.
A vein throbbed on his temple. After a long pause, he finally asked, “So, in his subconscious, he’s afraid of being a third party in my relationship?”
The doctor was also somewhat uncertain: “I can’t give a hundred percent definitive answer to that. Other organ pathologies follow observable patterns, but the brain is the most complex and tricky. When nerves suffer stress responses from external impacts, whatever cognitive biases they derive aren’t considered abnormal.”
“We can only wait until he recovers his memory and ask him in person to know for sure.”
Ha. Jiang Qunyu certainly wanted to ask.
It was just that every time he mentioned it, Wei Xun would eat all kinds of absurdly jealous vinegar.
Take right now, for instance.
Wei Xun had already sat up. He cast his eyes down at Jiang Qunyu beside him, whose breathing hadn’t fully calmed down, and said coldly, “Jiang Qunyu, when you’re doing it with me, you’re not allowed to think of other men in your mind.”
That clingy guy was finally willing to separate temporarily, but the flesh on the back of Jiang Qunyu’s neck still retained the dense, stinging pain from being bitten repeatedly by canine teeth.
Jiang Qunyu didn’t want to get up right now either. Placing a hand over his eyes, he said in an annoyed tone, “I’ve only ever done it with you. Wei Xun, you’re truly sick.”
Wei Xun gave a light sneer, his tone dripping with sarcastic mockery: “Is that so? If that nominal husband of yours was actually useful, you wouldn’t be turned completely weak all over the moment I touch you.”
“…” Suppressing the urge to punch him, Jiang Qunyu said expressionlessly, “My husband is you.”
Wei Xun didn’t argue. He stepped straight out of bed, poured a glass of water, and held it to Jiang Qunyu’s lips, saying with deep regret: “Pity it’s only behind the scenes.”
Jiang Qunyu was almost laughed out of his anger by him.
So after talking for half a day, he had been playing the lute to a cow all along!
Following Wei Xun’s hand, he tilted his head to take a sip of water, holding in a stomach full of frustration: “We are a legitimate married couple who officially registered for a marriage certificate!”
“Where’s the certificate?” Wei Xun placed the glass back, lay down again, and stretched out a long arm, pulling Jiang Qunyu into his embrace and encircling him. “You said the same thing last time, but you have no evidence to prove it at all.”
Jiang Qunyu didn’t understand why a single car accident could make Wei Xun so clingy, wishing he could hang on him every single second.
He attempted to break out of Wei Xun’s arms, but unfortunately, as the intimacy had just passed, his strength hadn’t fully recovered yet. He could only let Wei Xun’s palm slide over his body recklessly, lingering greedily.
He simply gave up and smashed the pot, asking back with a fake smile: “Fine, then I want to ask too, where is our marriage certificate?”
A few days ago, he had searched through every drawer and cabinet at home and couldn’t find it at all.
It couldn’t be that Wei Xun hid it, right? Why on earth would he hide that thing?
“Do you want to get a marriage certificate with me?” Wei Xun rested his chin on Jiang Qunyu’s head, holding him while saying enthusiastically, “Baby, you finally plan to divorce him.”
The more Jiang Qunyu listened, the stronger the sense of powerlessness in his heart grew. Angered, he used Wei Xun’s words to mock back: “Yes, I plan to divorce him!”
Whoever wants to live these outrageous days can go ahead, he’s going to stay far away from this psychopath Wei Xun!
Yet upon hearing this, a few glimmers of genuine joy instantly lit up the bottom of Wei Xun’s eyes. He supported Jiang Qunyu’s waist with his arms, exerted a bit of force to pull him up higher, lowered his head to press against his lips, and said lightly and expectantly: “Will you divorce him tomorrow, okay?”
Jiang Qunyu had a dark face: “Sure, let’s go tomorrow.”
The next day, when Jiang Qunyu woke up, Wei Xun was no longer on the bed.
He climbed out of bed and walked out of the bedroom, seeing the person sitting on the living room sofa wearing a full suit at a single glance.
With an upright figure and a noble, chilly appearance, he looked quite pleasing to the eye—but that didn’t stop Jiang Qunyu from wanting to take a bite out of Wei Xun the moment he saw him.
“Oh, where do you plan on going today, sir?” Holding his toothbrush, Jiang Qunyu didn’t forget to throw a jab at Wei Xun before putting it into his mouth.
Hearing this, Wei Xun had a subtle expression: “Naturally waiting to watch you divorce your husband. What, you’re not regretting it, are you?”
“Didn’t regret it.” Jiang Qunyu gave a muffled response, glared at him, turned, and slipped into the bathroom to wash up.
In his heart, he couldn’t help but recall when he and Wei Xun first got married.
He had thought they would live in the vast Wei family villa in Wuchen, enjoying a life where he didn’t have to lift a finger every day.
But later, Wei Xun said he didn’t really like other people stepping into his personal life. So he bought a new house himself, where only he and Jiang Qunyu lived.
Only a housekeeping auntie would come over to tidy up the house when both of them were at work.
At first, Jiang Qunyu thought the leisurely life he had envisioned was ruined, even considering hiring a private cook himself to solve his three daily meals.
Unexpectedly, Wei Xun actually knew how to cook, and made delicious food.
Jiang Qunyu’s palate was gradually spoiled, and he was no longer used to food made by others. Thus, before this, Jiang Qunyu had never once thought about divorcing Wei Xun.
If not for this accident.
Recalling this, Jiang Qunyu took small bites of the sandwich in his hand. After quickly finishing breakfast, he dragged Wei Xun directly by the wrist and pulled him out: “Let’s go, we’re in a hurry.”
Pulled along by him, a shallow smile curled up at the corner of Wei Xun’s lips as he said “thoughtfully”: “It’s fine, I’m in no rush.”
Anyway, Jiang Qunyu was going to divorce that so-called “husband” today, so waiting a bit longer didn’t matter.
Jiang Qunyu silently turned his head toward the car window, watching the rapidly receding streetscape, exposing him expressionlessly: “Then drive a little slower.”
Half an hour later, the two stood outside the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Wei Xun stood at the entrance waiting for a while. Failing to see that annoying figure, his brows and eyes instantly sank into a dark gloom, his tone listless with a trace of gloomy irritation: “Where is he? Why hasn’t he come?”
Jiang Qunyu: “…”
In Wei Xun’s displaced memory, Jiang Qunyu’s husband was also an Alpha. This Alpha even seemed to have a real-life prototype, though Jiang Qunyu hadn’t managed to ask Wei Xun who it specifically was yet.
After Jiang Qunyu married that Alpha, because that Alpha was busy with work abroad for long periods, he didn’t return often. Taking advantage of the empty spot, Wei Xun stepped in and interfered in Jiang Qunyu’s marriage with that Alpha.
Jiang Qunyu sometimes wondered if this guy had developed an addiction to being the “other man”—refusing to act like a proper, legitimate husband and insisting on indulging in this “falling in love with a married person” drama.
“He’s here,” Jiang Qunyu said with a wooden face.
Wei Xun narrowed his eyes, looked around, then turned sideways, tilted his head down, and asked darkly: “Where?”
Jiang Qunyu: “Fool.”
Lazy to talk nonsense with this guy anymore, he directly grabbed Wei Xun’s wrist in reverse and dragged him into the hall of the Civil Affairs Bureau with wide strides.
Wei Xun didn’t say a word, letting him pull him along.
Not until the counter staff raised their eyes and asked politely: “Excuse me, what business are you two processing?”
Looking at their held hands, Wei Xun was still somewhat dazed and very confused in his heart.
Can Betas commit bigamy nowadays? How come that annoying Alpha who usurped Jiang Qunyu’s marriage status still hadn’t shown up?
Before he could sort out his thoughts, Jiang Qunyu spat out two words expressionlessly: “Divorce.”
Wei Xun: “?”
The staff asked: “Have you brought all the materials? Marriage certificates, ID cards, household registration booklet, and the divorce agreement?”
Jiang Qunyu was so furious that he temporarily forgot they needed to reissue their marriage certificate first before divorcing.
He froze for a second, then simply changed his tune: “Then reissue the marriage certificate first.”
Wei Xun listened quietly, his long eyelashes drooping slightly as he stared at their held hands.
After a moment of silence, he then said: “I didn’t say to divorce.”
The staff member was just about to inform them that they could pull up the archive to process it even without the physical marriage certificate, but upon hearing this, silently shut their mouth.
Alright, got it, just a young couple having a lover’s spat.
Not wanting their ridiculous family matter to be laughed at by outsiders, Jiang Qunyu whispered an apology to the staff and turned around to lead Wei Xun out of the hall.
Returning to sit inside the car, the enclosed space instantly amplified all emotions.
Jiang Qunyu turned his head to look at the person beside him, his tone full of sarcasm: “Wasn’t it you who kept urging me every day to divorce my husband?”
Wei Xun pressed his thin lips tight, his voice deepening a bit: “…I thought you were lying to me.”
“Do I have any reason to lie to you?” Jiang Qunyu couldn’t understand him. “Or do you have some kind of hobby for being the third party?”
Wei Xun rarely softened his attitude: “…I was wrong.”
He leaned over, wanting to kiss Jiang Qunyu.
Jiang Qunyu tilted his head to dodge, not letting him have his way.
The soft kiss ultimately landed on the side of his cheek, carrying a bit of slight coolness and cautious accommodation.
“Tell me first, why didn’t you believe me after I told you so many times?” Jiang Qunyu remained completely baffled.
Hearing this, Wei Xun’s tone also carried a hint of resentment: “If we really got married, why am I not wearing a wedding ring, and neither are you?”
Jiang Qunyu froze.
Well, that was because when they first got married, he felt they were just getting what they each needed and didn’t need to take the marriage too seriously, so he told Wei Xun there was no need to specifically buy rings.
At that time, Wei Xun hadn’t said anything either, so Jiang Qunyu assumed he thought the same way.
Who would have thought it would now become one of his proofs for doubting whether they were actually married?
“You didn’t say back then that you insists on buying rings…”
Wei Xun continued moodily: “You don’t let me bite your neck either.”
Jiang Qunyu: “?”
This can also become one of his reasons for doubt?
“…Why don’t you take a look at how many marks you left on me last night?!” Jiang Qunyu was so angry his head hurt, pulling his sleeve straight up.
On his fair skin, dense and crisscrossed hickeys of varying depths spread out, trailing all the way up his arm and hiding under his clothing—striking and eye-piercing.
“You really have the nerve to say that.”
Wei Xun stopped talking.
Jiang Qunyu didn’t actually want to divorce either. Mainly, Wei Xun seemed to have turned normal again right now, but he didn’t want those words coming out of his own mouth.
Thus, he could only keep a cold face, putting on a cold front: “Are we still divorcing or not? If you still want to make a scene about divorcing, going back in right now to reissue the documents and process the procedure is completely in time.”
As soon as these words came out, the pressure around Wei Xun plummeted instantly.
Holding Jiang Qunyu’s face with both hands, he leaned down and kissed Jiang Qunyu on the lips, kissing deep and urgently.
Jiang Qunyu didn’t dodge anymore. After sharing a long, drawn-out kiss with him, both of them were somewhat out of breath.
Wei Xun’s eyes were dark and gloomy as he curled his lips and said: “Jiang Qunyu, dream on.”
Looking at the wound on the corner of Wei Xun’s lip that he had accidentally bitten—a bit of skin broken, currently oozing a small drop of blood—Jiang Qunyu leaned in to kiss it, kissing the blood bead away.
Then, trailing a lazy nasal tone, he hummed in compromise: “Alright, alright, since you asked me so nicely, we won’t divorce for now.”
Wei Xun was finally satisfied.
Tightening his arms, he held the person firmly in his embrace, rubbing his nose against the side of Jiang Qunyu’s neck, unable to restrain himself from lowering his head to delicately bite at Jiang Qunyu’s fragile nape.
His rut period was approaching. The physiological instincts belonging to an Alpha made him subconsciously want to mark Jiang Qunyu, injecting his pheromones into Jiang Qunyu’s body to cover him head-to-toe in his scent, thereby repelling anyone who lusted after Jiang Qunyu.
However, Jiang Qunyu was merely a Beta and couldn’t be marked.
Having no other choice, Wei Xun could only greedily bite that patch of fine flesh over and over again, relying on intimate touch to barely appease the restless possessiveness surging in his heart.
Jiang Qunyu was genuinely afraid Wei Xun would leave marks on his neck.
Other places on his body were fine, but the neck area was just too obvious and easily invited wrong ideas.
He and Wei Xun were in a hidden marriage state at the company. Except for upper management, nobody else knew.
Jiang Qunyu had brought this up because he didn’t want people trying to curry favor with him at work due to his identity.
Previously, Wei Xun had cooperated well. Every rut period, he would only symbolically bite his nape and wouldn’t refuse to let go like he was doing now.
The only exception was one time during Wei Xun’s rut that he forgot to mention to Jiang Qunyu. Jiang Qunyu hadn’t noticed anything wrong either, except that Wei Xun was a bit clingy that night.
Not until the next day when he went to work as usual and was stopped by a familiar Alpha colleague, who asked him with a cautious look whether he had undergone a secondary differentiation.
Jiang Qunyu had been stunned at the time and asked him why he asked.
The scent left behind by an S-rank Alpha was enough to terrify other nearby Alphas. Braving the curious and wary gazes of the surrounding colleagues, that Alpha gritted his teeth and said: “Is your rut period coming up soon? Otherwise, taking an inhibitor shot would work too—your pheromones are honestly terrifying enough.”
Jiang Qunyu: “…”
He fell silent for a moment: “What scent?”
“A bit like white rose.”
That was the first time Jiang Qunyu learned that Wei Xun’s pheromone was a cold, clean white rose fragrance.
He had been very guilty back then, terrified that if Wei Xun failed to control his pheromones and others smelled them, and then smelled them on him, wouldn’t the fact that they were a couple be exposed?
He didn’t dare stay in the office area any longer, hurrying straight to the top-floor executive office to find Wei Xun to ask for leave.
Yet the moment he pushed open the door, he saw the man, who was usually dignified and self-restrained, lazily burying his entire face in his arm, his spine tense, his whole body exuding unassalable discomfort.
Jiang Qunyu had originally intended to settle scores with him, but in the end, he didn’t ask. Placing his hand against Wei Xun’s forehead, he said: “Did you not know these days were your rut period?”
Wei Xun didn’t say yes or no either. He sat up straight, hugged Jiang Qunyu’s waist, buried his face in his chest, and quietly, submissively absorbed his warmth.
Jiang Qunyu had always thought that was a misunderstanding—that Wei Xun had slipped in self-restraint and accidentally leaked his pheromones.
But now, he didn’t think that way anymore.
He even suspected that perhaps Wei Xun’s past behavior in front of him was the true disguise.
And the memory-jumbled Wei Xun was doing everything he subconsciously wanted to do to Jiang Qunyu all along.
A sudden sting brought Jiang Qunyu back to his senses. He blinked, meeting Wei Xun’s long, narrow phoenix eyes that were clearly displeased again: “What’s wrong?”
Wei Xun pinched Jiang Qunyu’s face: “You’re spacing out again.”
Jiang Qunyu let out a light sigh and could only obey him, concentrating on kissing him.
Perhaps because the upcoming rut period was still heavily influencing Wei Xun, the sense of insecurity in his heart grew stronger, especially manifested in his inability to mark Jiang Qunyu.
Jiang Qunyu didn’t even know what he was biting at, soft hums spilling out uncontrollably from between his lips and teeth.
“Biting there is useless anyway,” Jiang Qunyu couldn’t help saying.
Who knew these words seemed to poke Wei Xun’s sore spot, answered by the other party biting even harder, the force heavy with a bit of lost control and ferocity.
Jiang Qunyu: “…”
According to the normal cycle, Wei Xun’s rut period occurred once every three months, and there was still a full week left until the next one.
Yet without any warning, this time it triggered prematurely.
There were no inhibitors prepared in the car. Jiang Qunyu could only let him rub and linger against his neck repeatedly. Only after Wei Xun’s restlessness calmed slightly did he pull out a bite-guard to put on him, comforting: “Let’s talk after we get home.”
Wei Xun drooped his eyes and agreed.
Jiang Qunyu breathed a sigh of relief. Just in case, he was the one driving on the way back this time.
The moment they arrived home, Wei Xun became somewhat out of control.
An Alpha had a nest-building instinct. When Jiang Qunyu finished washing up simply and walked out of the bathroom, he raised his eyes to see the bedroom’s large bed already piled full with his clothing.
Jiang Qunyu’s brow twitched slightly, a premonition rising implicitly in his heart.
Wei Xun’s rut period this time seemed fiercer and more uncontrollable than any time in the past.
Before he could step closer to the bedside, the figure beside him suddenly reached out a long arm, scooping him firmly into his arms.
Wei Xun buried his head in his neck, his breath scalding hot, his voice sticky and hoarse, carrying a cautious plea: “Baby, wash one more time, okay?”
“…Can I say no?” The corner of Jiang Qunyu’s lips twitched.
Wei Xun curled his lips, carried him in his arms, and entered the bathroom.
The bathroom door was glass, quickly enveloped in dense white steam from the boiling hot water, blurring all the scenery inside, completely isolating the room full of tenderness.
Until the Beta was pressed against the side of the door, intermittent sobbing sounds leaked out from the crack of the door. Moisture continuously condensing on the smooth glass surface also trembled slightly along with the rise and fall inside the room, gathering into streaks of water traces that flowed down quietly.
Occasionally, one could hear a few scoldings from Jiang Qunyu and low chuckles from Wei Xun.
After a long time, Wei Xun finally pushed open the door and came out. The person in his arms seemed sleepy, leaning on his shoulder without speaking.
He placed Jiang Qunyu back onto the soft big bed. The clothes scattered and piled by the bed were messy and creased, setting off the room’s atmosphere to be even more ambiguous.
Jiang Qunyu was exhausted to the bone and his head was groggy; he only wanted to sleep.
So even when he heard Wei Xun saying “let’s do it again,” he pretended not to hear and let Wei Xun have his way.
By the time that painful pleasure completely passed, the small patch of light falling through the gap in the heavy floor-to-ceiling curtains had dimmed, slanting onto the floorboards.
Jiang Qunyu was already fast asleep, but Wei Xun still didn’t want to leave.
Holding the person in his arms, smelling the scent on Jiang Qunyu, he still felt it wasn’t enough.
Therefore, he lowered his head again, biting densely and delicately over Jiang Qunyu’s smooth skin, time after time, paranoid and stubborn—trying to rely on these repeated intimate touches to thoroughly engrave his own scent into Jiang Qunyu’s very bones and blood.
In the middle of the night, Jiang Qunyu felt a bit thirsty.
Before he could even open his eyes, Wei Xun’s deep voice sounded beside his ear: “Want water?”
“Mhm.” Jiang Qunyu responded softly.
Wei Xun got up. Soon, a glass of water was held to his lips. Jiang Qunyu listlessly drank a bit, moistening his dry throat.
Wei Xun leaned down to kiss his eyes: “Sleep.”
Jiang Qunyu then went back to sleep.
Only Wei Xun didn’t feel sleepy in the slightest.
After thinking for a bit, he got up and walked to the study on the second floor.
…If he really was married to Jiang Qunyu.
The study was silent and soundless, the warm yellow floor lamp casting soft shadows.
Wei Xun lowered his eyes, walking slowly to the bookshelf, his eyes scanning the neatly arranged books line by line. Counting down from the top to the sixty-fifth book, he paused, then reached out and took that book down.
The moment the book left the shelf, two neatly stacked marriage certificates slid down along the spine, landing gently in his palm.
And behind the hidden compartment where the book was originally fitted, there lay a light gray velvet gift box sitting quietly.
A very faint smile curled at the corner of Wei Xun’s lips as he raised his hand to open the box lid.
A pair of plain matching rings lay quietly in the center of the velvet fabric, displaying a warm luster—clean and simple.
So it really was his and Jiang Qunyu’s wedding rings.
