Save me!

The next morning, Zhan Yan was woken up by his alarm, yawning.

As expected, staying up late last night took a bit of a toll. Fortunately, it wasn’t as severe as before; he didn’t have dark circles under his eyes yet.

But since Mom and Dad weren’t home, he set his alarm 40 minutes later, using his morning exercise time to catch up on sleep—his older brother and sister got up late anyway.

Scrolling through the gossip feeds, the Chronicle of the World was still being interrogated. When he searched for gossip on the Chronicle of the World, it was still just a string of [Loading…]. He could only wait for the Abnormal Affairs Management Bureau to send an update.

Zhan Yan climbed out of bed to wash up. When he went downstairs and was about to eat breakfast, he saw his sister heating up some shrimp dumplings.

Zhan Suiru looked at him with a smile: “You’re up?”

Zhan Yan: “…I think it’s perfectly normal to wake up late occasionally during the holidays.”

Zhan Suiru blinked: “Huh? Didn’t you just get back from your workout?”

Zhan Yan instantly understood and nodded: “Right!”

When Zhan Jinli came downstairs, he saw the two of them looking like they were in complete sync.

…He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was missing something. It was probably just an illusion.

After breakfast, their eldest brother silently drove his younger brother and sister to the station. When saying goodbye, he shot Zhan Yan a look.

Don’t forget to observe if anyone is currently courting your sister!

Zhan Yan winked back at him.

Rest assured!

Zhan Jinli felt relieved.

Zhan Suiru held back a laugh, pretending she didn’t see anything.

On the way, Zhan Yan studied his newly unlocked map function.

The map function’s live location effective range was about a 30-meter radius with him at the center. Aside from him, all the live dots were green. However, if he selected a specific person to mark, then even if that person’s live dot exceeded the 30-meter range, they could still be displayed on the map as a navigation target.

Once Zhan Yan figured it out, he started sleeping in the car. Every night stayed up out of excitement eventually had to be paid back with sleep during the day.

Zhan Suiru was a bit worried seeing her brother like this. What did Yanyan do last night? How could he sleep this much?

Her younger brother didn’t really play video games much anymore, so he definitely wasn’t staying up late gaming. Could it be because of his boyfriend?

Rong Sui: “Did you keep my brother up late last night?”

Deep Shadow: “No.”
“Did Yanyan stay up late last night?”

Rong Sui: “He’s exhausted. He’s still sleeping right now.”

Deep Shadow: “I was investigating the Chronicle of the World last night.”
“Yanyan might have been staying up late watching TV series.”

Rong Sui: “What’s up with the Chronicle of the World now?”
“What TV series is Yanyan staying up late to watch?”

The two of them seamlessly transitioned back and forth between the two topics.

Deep Shadow: “The remaining half of the Chronicle of the World’s skill book is missing.”
“I don’t know what he watched last night, but he likes Miracle of Love.”

Rong Sui: “Did you find out how it was lost?”
“Yanyan doesn’t like that kind of melodramatic soap opera.”

Heh, so what if he’s Deep Shadow? His understanding of her brother still gets a failing grade, doesn’t it?

Deep Shadow: “Currently investigating.”
“Yanyan told me last night that he likes the dialogue in it.”

Zhan Suiru: ???

Her younger brother had just told her about how his boyfriend mistakenly thought he liked melodramatic soap operas.

What kind of weird mind games were this little couple playing?

She turned her head to look next to her. Zhan Yan was sleeping soundly. A small curl of hair hung down from his temple, resting on his cheek and trembling slightly with each breath.

Zhan Suiru smiled and brushed his hair aside.

Ten minutes before arriving at the station, Zhan Suiru woke her brother up.

Zhan Yan blearily yawned and spaced out for a while before fully waking up, his mop of curly hair completely messed up from sleeping on the car seat.

Seeing him like this, Zhan Suiru couldn’t bear to interrogate him. She took her sleep-addled brother, got in a car, and arrived at the hotel they had booked in advance.

They had booked a two-bedroom suite. Upon arriving at the hotel and seeing the bed, Zhan Yan couldn’t resist again: “Sis, I’m going to sleep for a bit first.”

“You sleep, I’ll go buy something to eat.” Zhan Suiru closed the door and went downstairs.

Zhan Yan took off his shoes and lay on the bed. He was groggily about to fall asleep, but felt uncomfortable, so he pulled down a pillow to hug… Hmm? Why did the texture of this pillow feel wrong?

Twenty minutes later, Zhan Suiru returned to the hotel carrying a bunch of local specialty foods, only to find several police officers there, as well as the hotel manager.

Her younger brother was sitting to the side with his hair in a mess.

“What’s going on?” Zhan Suiru asked.

“I found a stack of cash inside the pillowcase, so I called the police.” Zhan Yan, so sleepy that tears were forming in his eyes, looked up at Zhan Suiru. “Sis, I’m so sleepy.”

Zhan Suiru rubbed his little curls: “You can sleep in a little bit.”

The police were praising Zhan Yan for returning lost money. They called the hotel manager over to check the previous tenant’s information to confirm that the money was left behind here.

The hotel manager was a smooth talker. While cooperating, he thanked Zhan Yan, churning out one pretty speech after another.

Zhan Yan was very unhappy: “It’s no use praising me. Your hotel definitely didn’t change the pillowcases! I want to check out!”

Hotel Manager: …

Police: …We are professionally trained not to laugh.

The hotel manager’s little green dot turned into a little yellow dot.

Good heavens, so these things could actually have different colors.

After changing to another hotel, Zhan Yan was just about to go to sleep when Zhan Suiru stopped him: “Wait.”

Her sharp gaze swept around the room, and she fished out a hidden camera from the air conditioning vent.

Zhan Yan: …

A little while later, the police arrived again. The responding officers were the same two as before.

When they opened the door and saw each other, the expressions on both sides were slightly awkward.

Zhan Yan: “…Yeah, it’s us again.”

The police even joked with him: “Didn’t manage to get to sleep again, huh.”

Zhan Yan: …

Fortunately, this time it wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but the wicked deed of some unknown past tenant. After cooperating with the police, they directly changed rooms.

After changing rooms, Zhan Yan didn’t sleep either. He started using the Gossip System to investigate exactly which wicked scumbag placed the camera in the hotel.

Zhan Suiru asked: “You’re not sleeping anymore?”

Zhan Yan: “I’m fully awake now, I can’t sleep.”

[The snake demon Zuo Chenwei accidentally entered his shedding period early. He booked a room at the Wenyue Hotel to prepare for shedding and did not discover the miniature camera installed by Che Yonggen.]

[Che Yonggen watched the entire process of the snake demon Zuo Chenwei shedding his skin through the miniature camera. He was frightened into a mental breakdown and sent to a psychiatric hospital.]

Serves the damn pervert right!

Going to a psychiatric hospital didn’t stop Zhan Yan from filing an anonymous report anyway.

The next day, the two of them headed to the gaming convention.

Luo Luoluo asked if they needed to be picked up. Zhan Suiru didn’t mind, but Zhan Yan, being highly experienced, directly refused.

“If we let them pick us up, we’ll definitely be dragged into helping with promotions,” Zhan Yan complained to his sister. “I was dragged over to shoot a game commercial before, and the next time I went, they tried to drag me into doing motion capture.”

Also, the horror movie version of the grape commercial that Director Ji Lele had retweeted unexpectedly went viral, so Luo Luoluo wanted to drag him into shooting an interactive response video.

He just wanted to stroll around the convention; he did NOT want to work!

After arriving at the gaming convention, Zhan Yan realized that many people were wearing cosplay costumes, dressed as various game characters.

They glanced over from a distance. The Dawn Continent game exhibition area was quite popular; it was constantly surrounded by people lining up to test out the sets of equipment combining omnidirectional treadmills, sensor gloves, and VR glasses.

“Do you want to go try it out?” Zhan Suiru asked.

“It’s too crowded. No thanks,” Zhan Yan shook his head.

If it weren’t for the fact that he could directly enter the Dawn World through network-type entrances, he would actually want to play with this set of equipment too. But he could play real full-dive virtual reality now. Who would want to squeeze into this crowd?

Zhan Yan and his sister went to the other exhibition areas together.

He excitedly strolled around for a bit before noticing that someone was staring at him. After a while, two people cosplaying as characters from the Dawn Continent game walked over and asked Zhan Yan, “Hello, excuse me, are you Young Master Grape?”

“Young Master Grape?” Zhan Yan looked at them blankly.

His confusion was far too sincere.

The two cosplayers thought they had recognized the wrong person. Blushing, they said, “Sorry, we mistook you for someone else. Here, this is for you.”

Zhan Yan looked down and saw merchandise of the game character he had played.

Zhan Yan: …

Zhan Suiru was snickering off to the side.

Zhan Yan: …Who could possibly react to that? What the heck is ‘Young Master Grape’?!

Since the game launched, he basically hadn’t had a moment of free time. Therefore, he hadn’t been paying attention to the situation with the Dawn Continent game—with his brother there, it was impossible to lose money anyway.

Now he belatedly realized that this Dawn Continent game seemed to be a bit more popular than he thought…

Zhan Suiru: “I think you’d better wear a mask.”

The two of them found a vendor selling mask merchandise in the venue. Zhan Yan picked one stitched with the words “Noob But Loves To Play”.

He and his sister eventually separated as they wandered around.

Originally, he was forced to come to the gaming convention because his sister was going to corner him to ask about Xiao Gu. But now that the issue with Xiao Gu was resolved, he might as well just browse casually. He had been grinding hard for many days; now that the Chronicle of the World was captured, he definitely needed to relax a bit.

Zhan Suiru only planned to stay here for one day; she still hadn’t finished the Ghost King Lin Yuan’s order. Yanyan had been cooped up in his room for a while previously, so accompanying him out to play today was pretty good.

Not long after they separated, Zhan Suiru received a message from Ning Xi.

Ning Xi: “We’ve interrogated a portion of it out of him.”

“The Chronicle of the World has a special skill called ‘Lifeline’. After encountering you and Deep Shadow, he used this skill.”

“Following the skill’s instructions, he gave the remaining half of his skill book to a player.”

“We are still investigating who this player is.”

“Do you have any understanding of this ‘Lifeline’ skill?”

Ning Xi’s message was simultaneously sent to Deep Shadow and Approaching Science, and she also sought out the players of the Retirees Alliance to inquire for information about this skill.

When Zhan Yan received the message, he was playing a game in one of the exhibition areas. Wearing a mask labeled “Noob But Loves To Play”, he was absolutely fearless!

After losing three times in a row against the AI bots, there were finally signs of winning on the fourth try. Zhan Yan was playing the game with deep concentration when he suddenly received Ning Xi’s message. His hand slipped, and he lost again.

Zhan Yan: …

Forget it, forget it. Winning or losing isn’t important.

He stood up, gave up his seat, and tapped open Ning Xi’s message.

“Lifeline”? Running into both Xiao Gu and his sister at the same time, the Chronicle of the World certainly did need a lifeline.

Zhan Yan was just about to search when the map suddenly popped up and blared a massive alarm at him.

A red live dot appeared at the edge of the 30-meter radius, and it was moving towards him.

He didn’t even need to think to know that this was an absolutely dangerous person. But with amulets given to him by Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, and Xiao Gu on his person, Zhan Yan didn’t actually feel he was in any danger. However, if the amulets were triggered, his family members would inevitably all find out. Once they found out, they would come investigate; once they investigated, they would discover the other amulets on him, and then everyone’s secret identities would be exposed…

Zhan Yan turned around and sprinted in his sister’s direction following the map navigation. Dropping his vest in front of his sister was still better than a chaotic family-wide vest-dropping stew.
