YA Ch17: Marrying In
Lu Zhenni was so angry that her face turned red. Now, everything except her hair was red, like a cooked lobster waving its red claws:
“Dirty money? Lu Yu, is this how you talk about the Lu family outside? Then what are you, raised by this dirty money?”
Lu Yu blocked her long nails that were about to poke his eyes, “Don’t give me that. I’ve paid back all the money to the Lu family!”
Quickly turning his head, he whispered to Ming Yan, who came over to help, “Did we pay it back?”
Ming Yan nodded and whispered, “Paid back.”
Lu Yu suddenly felt justified and raised his voice, “All paid back! Stop nitpicking. Is the key the dirty money? The key is, pay up!”
Lu Zhenni, bewildered by his unreasonable shouting, said, “Why should I give him money?”
“No money, then get out.” Lu Yu pushed Lu Zhenni out of the office, “Our President Ming is very busy, okay?”
Lu Zhenni shook off his hand. To prevent Lu Yu from pushing her again, she took a few steps back on her own, stood firm, tidied her hair, and elegantly spoke again, “I came to discuss serious business… Hey, hey!”
She hadn’t finished her sentence when Lu Yu started to close the door. Lu Zhenni had to step forward to block the door, quickly saying, “Your listing; the Lu family can help.”
Lu Yu frowned, very impatient. He didn’t think the Lu family could help much. The Lu family wasn’t in finance. They had to beg everyone to get listed, and now they would beg again for him, an estranged adopted son?
However, thinking of the Ming family’s situation, the sooner Chenyu got listed, the better. He decided to endure and see what ivory words could come out of Lu Zhenni’s mouth.
Lu Yu tilted his chin up, glancing at his nonexistent watch on his right hand, copying President Ximen’s behavior, “You have two minutes to state your case.”
Lu Zhenni elegantly sat back on the sofa, her posture proud, “You can’t get listed because your scale is too small, with only one core business and a shabby office building.”
Lu Yu’s temples twitched as he listened. Why insult his office building while talking? This place houses the world’s most advanced novel simulator and his three cutest sons: “You have one minute left.”
Even though Lu Yu was deliberately making things difficult, Lu Zhenni couldn’t help but speed up her speech as she heard the countdown: “If you merge the Lu family’s mobile phone manufacturing plant and convert it into an intelligent brain manufacturing plant, you’ll have a physical factory, making it much easier to go public. You could even list it in the US.”
Merge with the Lu family’s outdated mobile phone manufacturing plant?
Lu Yu laughed angrily, “You Lu family really know how to talk lightly. How do we convert it? How do we turn a tractor factory into a helicopter factory? Or should I tell the Security Regulatory Commission that we acquired a mobile phone factory? Hey, it looks like a mobile phone factory from afar, but it’s actually an intelligent brain factory up close.”
Ming Yan stifled a laugh.
“You don’t have to worry about the conversion. The Lu family will handle it.” Lu Zhenni crossed her legs, straightened her back, and raised her chin high. She stopped talking, waiting for Lu Yu to ask her what the conditions were.
But Lu Yu didn’t ask.
He was attracted by the cute laughter and turned to urge Ming Yan to eat quickly. He tidied up the desk in a few quick moves, placing the seafood rice he had painstakingly brought in the center, unpacked the cutlery, and handed it to Ming Yan, “Try it. Is it still warm? I ran all the way back; it should still be okay.”
Ming Yan took a bite. The rich tomato sauce, mixed with the aroma of seafood and rice, was warm and delicious.
Lu Yu was very happy to watch him eat. He had planned how to pursue his senior back in the day, including bringing him food, drinks, and snacks. Now, even though ten years had passed, he could still implement these plans.
Lu Zhenni, feeling utterly humiliated, spoke up about the conditions: “As long as you return to the Lu family and… divorce this person.” She looked at Lu Yu, who was unscrewing a drink bottle for Ming Yan, with a malicious smile.
Lu Yu turned to look at her and said, “You’re quite the comedian.”
Before Lu Zhenni could respond, Lu Yu pulled her up and said, “Out, out, out; don’t waste our President Ming’s time. If you have any issues in the future, come to me. Don’t bother Ming Yan.”
Lu Zhenni sneered, “I need to be able to find you. You blocked me ten years ago. So, I can only contact your wife. As long as you don’t divorce him, he’s your wife, and if the Lu family has business, he has to deal with it.”
Lu Yu’s pulling stopped. This meant that Lu Zhenni had contacted Ming Yan in advance. He suddenly remembered that Ming Yan had stopped him from coming to the company this morning. It wasn’t just about reading novels on the way; it was to prevent him from meeting Lu Zhenni.
He turned his head abruptly and saw Ming Yan looking at him with concern, not continuing to eat.
For Lu Yu, the Lu family was a serious psychological burden, a shadow of his past. Ming Yan didn’t want him to face it.
Lu Yu smiled and said, “Eat your food. I’m not afraid of her; I’ve fought her countless times since we were kids.”
Outside, the office wasn’t empty, with employees occasionally passing by.
Being pulled out of the office again, Lu Zhenni felt deeply embarrassed and raised her voice to counterattack: “How heartless you are. Do you know how heartbroken Uncle and Aunt are? As long as you return, you’ll still be the eldest young master of the Lu family. But the Lu family will only acknowledge you, not someone like Ming Yan, as a son-in-law. The Lu family can’t afford to lose face!”
Hearing the title “eldest young master of the Lu family,” Lu Yu suddenly became triggered and yelled loudly, “Only a bastard wants to be the eldest young master of the Lu family. Whoever wants it can have it. Do I care about your acknowledgment? Let me tell you the truth, I married into the Ming family. From now on, I’m Mrs. Ming!”
“Ding—” The elevator happened to open at this moment, and two employees delivering documents inside dropped their papers all over the floor in shock.
Lu Zhenni was dumbfounded, “You, you, you are so shameless!”
Unable to accept it, Lu Zhenni ran away in anger.
Lu Yu picked up the documents the employees had gathered again and happily turned back to the office. He put down the documents, moved a chair to sit beside Ming Yan, and supervised him eating, “Eat well. This is a takeaway delivered by an eighteen-year-old handsome guy on a skateboard.”
Seeing Ming Yan still distracted, Lu Yu moved closer and blinked, “Do you need the handsome guy to feed you? It’s free.”
Ming Yan pushed away the dog head that had leaned on his shoulder and seriously started eating one bite at a time. After finishing and tidying up, Lu Yu didn’t leave, staying by his side.
Ming Yan thought for a moment and said, “When you were in college, you gave all the three million you earned to the Lu family, saying it was triple the amount they spent raising you, severing ties. Over the years, there were a few more disputes…”
“Three million?” Lu Yu was a bit surprised.
He had calculated that the Lu family, who boasted to the sky, had actually only spent one million raising him over the years. Lu Dayu must have felt rich and generous enough to pay back three times the amount!
It was painful to think about it; that was three million, which could be used for so many other things. Lu Yu pouted, “Don’t believe a word the Lu family says. If they had that ability, they would have already started an intelligent brain manufacturing plant. Why come to us?”
Ming Yan nodded, “I know.”
Lu Yu was silent for a moment and awkwardly said, “It was my oversight about the financing. If Qingqu Capital is still willing to invest, accept it.”
For a typical startup, seeing a capital company is like seeing a parent. He was the odd one, dragging the investor into the machine until they got dizzy and mocking them.
“Hmm?” Ming Yan raised an eyebrow, giving Lu Yu a deep look, “Did you contact Zhao Yanqing?”
“…” Lu Yu felt like his secrets were all exposed, scratching his head uncomfortably. He thought that these ten years hadn’t been in vain. The eleven-year-older Ming Yan looked at him like a child with poor acting skills, seeing right through him.
Ming Yan lowered his eyes and signed the materials that had just been delivered, “Don’t worry about it. I’ve been hesitant too. This company is the hard work of you and Lao Yang. I can’t sell it cheaply. We should still strive to go public.”
Hearing this, Lu Yu was immediately displeased. He grabbed Ming Yan’s arm and said, “What’s mine is yours. Your words are too distant. Not just the company; you can even sell me.”
The final stroke of the signature stretched out into a long tail, making it look like “Ming Yan” had slipped and done a split on the ground.
Ming Yan couldn’t help but laugh, putting down the pen and pinching Lu Yu’s cheek, “Then you better gain some weight.” He missed the baby fat Lu Yu had in college.
Lu Yu obediently let him pinch his cheek, “No problem, I’ll drink a bucket of water before weighing in to make sure I fetch a good price.”
Just as they were talking, someone knocked on the door.
Ming Yan let go of Lu Yu’s face and sat up straight, “Come in.”
It was the advertising department, with the director bringing two employees to report on the progress of the live broadcast promotion.
“That’s the current situation,” the director glanced at Lu Yu, who was still there, “We hope Mr. Lu can also participate in the promotion.”
After all, this was Lu Yu’s novel, his IP, and he should be involved in the promotion. The first batch of viewers for the live broadcast would undoubtedly be readers of “Shooting the Heavenly Wolf.”
However, Lu Dayu had always been unwilling to participate in such things. The advertising director was unsure, thinking to discuss with Ming Yan and have him persuade Lu Yu, but to his surprise, Mr. Lu was sitting at Mr. Ming’s desk, so he had to brace himself, ready for strong opposition.
After waiting for a while, he didn’t hear Lu Yu get angry. Instead, he heard, “Sure.”
Sure?
The director looked up at Lu Yu in disbelief.
He saw Mr. Lu leaning close to Mr. Ming, whispering. The director coughed, looking away politely, and continued his report.
Lu Yu quietly asked Ming Yan, “What’s the current social platform?”
With smart brains now, it couldn’t be the same old ones.
Ming Yan opened his smart brain and pointed to an icon of a green bird spreading its wings, “Bird Book.”
Opening this software, the splash screen reads, “Blue Bird Delivers Messages, Friends Across Miles.”
Lu Yu opened his homepage, which Lu Dayu hadn’t updated in a long time. He thought it would be rude to post an ad right away, so he posted a status:
[Fish Out of Water V: Hello everyone! From now on, I am Mrs. Ming. Please call me Ming Taiyu.]
