RSDH CH16
When the question was revealed, the popularity of the [Lü Ye Shu Huai] livestream soared once again.
“Woohoo~ Exciting~”
“Was Teacher Duan’s first kiss President Cheng?”
“Looking at President Cheng’s expression, there seems to be another story.”
“Sigh, I really hope it was President Cheng, but they were separated for a few years, who knows if some unexpected romance dropped from the sky in between.”
“Teacher Duan is taking so long to answer, he must be thinking about how to explain it to President Cheng later.”
“The questions in All the Way With You always have an awkwardness that disregards the guests’ lives, but I’m trash and I love watching it, hehe.”
Ten seconds on the clock, yet Duan Xingye couldn’t bring himself to write. His mind was full of struggle over how to match this answer with Cheng Duzhou’s.
Not long after getting the marriage certificate in his hometown of Yu City, Duan Xingye returned to Shanghai and moved directly into Vanke Metropolis—the new house Cheng Duzhou had prepared.
Because the guest bedroom hadn’t been tidied up the night of the move-in, the two slept in the master bedroom together. Anyway, they had seen each other’s bare butts growing up, so neither was squeamish about it.
But the sense of boundaries as adults was always stronger than in childhood.
In the past—staying up too late playing, parents not home, summer camp—Duan Xingye could fall asleep quickly lying in the same bed as Cheng Duzhou. Now, however, he couldn’t ignore Cheng Duzhou’s existence. Coupled with the new home and environment, he tossed and turned with insomnia.
With one last turn, he ended up face-to-face with Cheng Duzhou, nose tips touching.
Silence between them, breaths intertwining.
Cheng Duzhou asked, “Can’t sleep?”
His deep, magnetic voice carried an unfamiliar raspiness.
Duan Xingye’s ears were sensitive, and his thoughts swelled with heat and dizziness. He gave a vague mm-hmm.
Cheng Duzhou leaned in.
They stopped at a light taste and separated.
Cheng Duzhou frowned slightly, pressing his lips together as if tasting the sensation. “Have you never kissed before?”
Duan Xingye’s face burned, and he blurted out, “Who says?”
Then he asked tentatively, “What about you?”
Cheng Duzhou asked back, “What do you think?”
“Boring.”
Then they tried again. The result of trying was that they did everything a married couple could do that night, and the guest bedroom remained unused to this day.
So regarding the first kiss, he had never explained it clearly to Cheng Duzhou. How would Cheng Duzhou know?
This question successfully made Duan Xingye anxious.
He could be less picky about food outside, but he couldn’t lower his standards for accommodation. If he didn’t secure the best room tonight, he would definitely suffer from insomnia.
To arrive at the destination first, he planned to pass all the questions in one go and didn’t want any extra penalty time.
Old Xu reminded: “Attention, five, four, three…”
There was no more time for Duan Xingye to think. He had to scribble hurriedly on the whiteboard.
He couldn’t guess Cheng Duzhou’s answer.
However, if Cheng Duzhou understood him even a little, he shouldn’t get this question wrong.
The countdown ended, and the couple revealed their answers.
On the two boards, one read [Pre-marriage], and the other read [Post-marriage].
Audience: ?
Seeing Cheng Duzhou’s answer [Pre-marriage], Duan Xingye’s anger flared up instantly.
Cheng Duzhou saw Duan Xingye’s answer [Post-marriage], blinked, looked bewildered for a moment, and looked at Duan Xingye: “Is this your second marriage with me?”
“…”
Duan Xingye raised the whiteboard with both hands and smacked it towards Cheng Duzhou.
“Hahaha domestic violence scene!”
“President Cheng, this blockhead! Could it be he doesn’t know he was Teacher Duan’s first kiss?!”
“Understood, it’s double first love!”
“Goddamn second marriage, what was President Cheng thinking!”
Five minutes of silence, stuck in place unable to go anywhere.
Duan Xingye climbed up the small path beside them and sat on the bench under the bus stop sign to rest.
Cheng Duzhou came and sat beside him. Duan Xingye deliberately turned his face to the other side to drink water.
Neither of them had phones right now. Cheng Duzhou lifted his wrist to check his watch.
It was 2:00 PM.
The entire island was filled with the scent of vegetation baked by the sun. The sunlight wasn’t scorching; it felt warm on the skin.
Because of Duan Xingye’s head-turning motion, the line of his slender neck was stretched straight. The sunlight illuminated his naturally flawless skin brightly, giving a delicate and soft feeling. Every detail became clear in the light; Cheng Duzhou could even see the fine fuzz on his ear.
Really wanted to rub it.
Cheng Duzhou curled his fingers and called him: “Hey.”
Duan Xingye didn’t make a sound.
“Hey.”
“…”
“Hey?”
“Hey your head, hey!” Duan Xingye finally looked at him.
Unsurprisingly, those bright dark pupils were full of annoyance.
He couldn’t be bothered to hide it even with the camera right next to them.
Cheng Duzhou pressed his lips lightly together, looking like he was holding back a smile. “When I asked you back then, you denied it.”
Bullet comments:
“Back then?”
“Asked what?”
“Elaborate!”
“Did I deny it?”
Duan Xingye straightened his back and fired off a string of questions without pausing for breath.
“Knowing me for so long, do you not understand me?”
“Do I look like someone who would look for a partner?”
“Who else could it be besides you?”
Cheng Duzhou looked at him, a hint of deep meaning suddenly appearing in his eyes.
Duan Xingye immediately realized the ambiguity in his words. His momentum collapsed instantly, and he hurriedly explained, “No, I meant…”
In the livestream room, everyone was shipping them to death, rolling around in sweetness from Duan Xingye’s line “Who else could it be besides you.”
Duan Xingye found he couldn’t explain it clearly.
He wanted to say there was no other possibility for his first kiss besides Cheng Duzhou.
Because he never had the impulse to fall in love, and Cheng Duzhou was the marriage partner assigned by his grandfather. Adding the layer of cohabitation, Cheng Duzhou became the only person who could get close to him and have intimate relations.
Duan Xingye remembered there was a camera. He stopped talking, as it wasn’t convenient to say too much in the livestream. He looked ahead and leaned back against the chair. “Wasted five minutes. If we get overtaken by other groups, you just wait, Cheng Duzhou…”
— “My first kiss was you.”
“…”
Duan Xingye’s heart skipped a beat in panic. He hesitated for a moment and looked over.
Cheng Duzhou lowered his eyes, smoothing the texture on his trousers with his fingers, and said, “It’s not something amazing, but I felt you should be certain about this.”
Duan Xingye frowned slightly. “Then why did you deny it back then?”
Cheng Duzhou glanced at him and said coolly, “Did I deny it?”
“…”
Even the audience guessed the cause and effect.
“You guys must have been so awkward when you first got married!”
“Neither of them was embarrassed to admit it, huh.”
“My god, these two are pure enough.”
“Wuwuwu glad the misunderstanding is cleared up. Shouldn’t they kiss at a time like this?”
Duan Xingye was retorted by Cheng Duzhou using his own words. Too lazy to argue with him anymore, he continued to sit there waiting for time to pass.
Cheng Duzhou seemed to think of something and gave a silent laugh. But in the time it took to lower his eyes, he reined in his expression.
He sat up straight, elbows on his knees, concentrating on staring at the wild flowers and grass across the road. But not two seconds later, Pfft, he laughed out loud.
“…” Duan Xingye turned his gaze to the side.
Cheng Duzhou covered his face with both hands, shoulders shaking.
“What are you laughing at?” he asked, his tone somewhat cold.
Cheng Duzhou shook his head, refusing to let go.
The audience screamed at the top of their lungs: Baby!!! He’s happy because he was your first man!!!
Duan Xingye, however, was getting pissed off by Cheng Duzhou’s uncontrolled laughter.
With Cheng Duzhou, he compared everything—experience, technique, charm. That was why he didn’t admit it was his first kiss back then. Cheng Duzhou must be laughing at him for putting on a brave front.
But wasn’t Cheng Duzhou a newbie himself?
Duan Xingye warned: “You are not allowed to laugh.”
Cheng Duzhou laughed out loud directly.
“…” Duan Xingye reached his limit and poked his waist frantically with the mineral water bottle.
Duan Xingye thought that after failing one question, the subsequent progress would be grim. Unexpectedly, it went surprisingly smoothly afterwards.
Some questions, even those he worried Cheng Duzhou wouldn’t know, Cheng Duzhou miraculously gave the same answer as him.
The map guided them all the way, getting closer and closer to South Port. The surroundings were no longer desolate.
A stall was set up by the street selling hot dogs.
Duan Xingye saw the huge, bright red price sign from afar.
20 Yuan / Portion
“Is this robbery?”
Duan Xingye roasted.
The audience burst into heartless “Hahaha” again:
“Teacher Duan scolds because he can’t afford it.”
“After all, they only have thirty yuan on them. Twenty would take up 2/3 of their assets.”
“Teacher Duan: The taste of poverty makes one irritable.”
Twenty yuan was really nothing to Duan Xingye. Usually, he wouldn’t even glance at a hot dog. But at this moment, this combination made him feel unbalanced.
Cheng Duzhou asked, “Hungry?”
Actually, this question was completely superfluous.
When they came at noon, Duan Xingye was seasick, which meant he didn’t eat. After hiking so far in the afternoon, the fact that he lasted until now without complaining showed that Duan Xingye wasn’t as delicate as he thought, and was quite professional about his work.
Duan Xingye unscrewed the cap, drank a mouthful of water, and didn’t look at the street stall. “I’m fine.”
Cheng Duzhou sighed. “I’m hungry.”
Duan Xingye paused, remembering.
Cheng Duzhou also barely ate lunch, having stayed on the deck to keep him company.
Duan Xingye glanced at the gradually completing map and frowned. “Endure it a bit longer, we’re almost there.”
The closer they got to the direction of South Port, the more certain it was that the thirty yuan “travel fund” given by the program team was for buying ferry tickets.
Cheng Duzhou said, “Wait for me.”
Saying that, without waiting for Duan Xingye’s answer, he strode toward the street stall with his long legs.
Duan Xingye saw through his intention and shouted from behind, “Cheng Duzhou!”
Cheng Duzhou only waved his hand without looking back.
Duan Xingye got angry. “What’s wrong with enduring a bit? You won’t listen to me! Don’t blame me for not reminding you when we don’t have money for tickets!” Still not satisfied, he shouted, “I’ll take the boat myself later, ignoring you. You can stay here tonight!”
Cheng Duzhou asked the auntie for a hot dog.
Duan Xingye didn’t stop when he passed by, but after walking a few steps forward, he stopped anyway. With a cold little face, he stood by the road waiting.
A moment later, Cheng Duzhou walked over.
A box containing a hot dog was handed to Duan Xingye.
Duan Xingye lowered his lashes to look at it, then raised his eyes.
“Hurry up and eat.” Cheng Duzhou licked the salad dressing off his fingertip, his voice calm. “I’ll stay here tonight, but you have to leave full.”
Bullet comments: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! President Cheng, dare you spoil him any more!
On the way forward, Duan Xingye split the hot dog in half and gave the other half to Cheng Duzhou.
He took the first bite.
Inner broad noodle tears flowed.
Never eaten such a delicious hot dog.
The last map piece was collected.
Contrary to their expectations, the destination was not the ferry station, but the east coast of the island.
No need to cross the sea. Their remaining money was more than enough. They hailed a taxi directly and headed straight for tonight’s accommodation.
When the car drove onto the coastal highway, it was already evening.
Magnificent colored clouds floated on the distant horizon, blurring the position of the coastline. The waves stretched slowly in the twilight, releasing nature’s kindness and gentleness.
As they got closer to the destination, piles of orange bonfires were lit on the passing beach.
Duan Xingye checked the map and saw the RVs parked in the distance, understanding the program team’s arrangement.
He worried: “Will camping be cold?”
Duan Xingye was afraid of the cold. Now, as the twilight sank, the temperature dropped, and the sea breeze was chilly. His hands were already starting to feel cold.
Cheng Duzhou was originally propping his cheek with one hand looking ahead. Glimpsing Duan Xingye unconsciously rubbing his hands on his pants, he reached over with his other hand, interlacing his fingers with Duan Xingye’s. His voice was low: “It’s okay, we can still drill wood to make fire.”
Duan Xingye’s fingers clearly stiffened. He pursed his lips slightly, then pursed them again. Judging by his expression, he wanted to say something but couldn’t, gradually growing displeased.
Cheng Duzhou’s hand stopped probing further. After a while, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Duan Xingye finally said, “Cheng Duzhou, can you not speak if you don’t make dirty jokes? Do you have to be so vulgar?”
Forget what he said before; Cheng Duzhou wasn’t used to the surrounding filming equipment, so it wasn’t intentional.
But now the camera was still pointed at them, and millions of viewers were watching.
Drill wood to make fire. How could he say that out loud?
“…”
Cheng Duzhou fell silent.
He let go of Duan Xingye.
At the same time, he lowered the hand propping his cheek and lightly tapped the car window glass. “Literal meaning, drill wood to make fire.”
Duan Xingye looked out the car window.
Piles of bonfires were dancing joyfully in the evening breeze.
“…”
After a burst of laughter in the bullet comments, the screen was flooded uniformly:
Who exactly is the one being dirty? [Let me see]
–
Author’s Note:
President Cheng: It’s not like I’m using my stick to drill you, what’s the rush?
Teacher Duan: …Shut up.
