MVCFO CH73

Lu Cong emerged from the simulated battlefield, shedding his clothes steeped in the scent of various killings, and put his terminal back on.

He didn’t immediately call Lin Xiangqi. Instead, he first opened the surveillance to see what Lin Xiangqi was doing.

Lin Xiangqi was well-behaved, studying by himself.

The Capital University exams were in a few days, and he might be a bit nervous and anxious, as he’d been staring at a question for a long time without writing anything.

Lu Cong, filled with a murderous and violent aura, softened into a gentle warmth the moment he saw Lin Xiangqi.

He made the call, and Lin Xiangqi answered almost immediately.

“What are you doing?” Lu Cong asked with a smile, looking at the person on the monitor.

Lin Xiangqi said, “Thinking of you.”

Lu Cong: “Hmm, thinking of me, or thinking of the Capital University exam?”

Lin Xiangqi in the frame pouted, looking a little sad, as if truly wronged, and said, “Just thinking of you, just thinking of you! Are you still busy?”

“I’m resting.” Lu Cong’s heart softened completely. He said gently, “I might be back late today. If you’re tired, go to sleep first. I’ve applied for leave from the Alliance, so I can accompany you every day after this, okay?”

“Okay.” Lin Xiangqi lay on the table, grumbling, “It’s too late today, don’t rush back. It takes several hours to fly back, and you’ve been busy all day, so get some rest.”

“Not tired.”

Lu Cong’s hand rested on the projected surveillance screen. His knuckles passed through Lin Xiangqi’s body, unable to touch, as if… nonexistent.

Lu Cong said, “Yan Yan, I miss you so much.”

Lin Xiangqi was a little happy, and a little unhappy: “I miss you too, but Lu Cong, you have to be healthy, don’t push yourself too hard. If it ends too late today, come back tomorrow morning, okay?”

“Got it.” Lu Cong smiled faintly, “I’ll listen to you.”

Lu Cong was soon going to re-enter combat training.

Before hanging up, Lin Xiangqi suddenly said, “Lu Cong, can you open up my outdoor access? I want to go for a walk.”

This time when he said he wanted to go out, Lu Cong’s reaction was much calmer than last time.

Because he knew Lin Xiangqi wouldn’t run; Lin Xiangqi was just bored.

So Lu Cong didn’t immediately refuse, only saying, “Where do you want to go for a walk?”

Lin Xiangqi said, “Isn’t there a Bay Park next to us? I always see lots of cats and dogs there from the sunroom. I want to go play.”

Lu Cong was about to say, “Wait for me to come back and take you,” but the battlefield countdown had already begun.

There wasn’t much time for him to hesitate; it was either refuse or agree. But if he refused, Lin Xiangqi might continue to be bored for several hours while he couldn’t answer the phone.

Lu Cong couldn’t be that cruel. He ultimately chose to open the access for Lin Xiangqi, saying, “Yan Yan, don’t run too far, be good.”

Lin Xiangqi nodded vigorously, as if he knew Lu Cong could see him, and said, “Okay.”

Not much time had passed since his last outing.

But this time, Lin Xiangqi was alone, and the feeling was quite different.

He told Lu Cong he was going for a walk, but secretly put his ID card in his pocket.

Last time he went out with Lu Cong, Lin Xiangqi originally wanted to take public transportation, but he couldn’t because his documents weren’t complete – although he had an ID card, many other procedures hadn’t been completed.

Considering the Capital University exam was imminent, Lu Cong had already helped him secure all the other necessary documents in the past couple of days.

So, Lin Xiangqi was now a proper person with an identity.

He could take public transportation by himself.

But his destination wasn’t Bay Park.

It was the city where he had lived for eighteen years.

Lin Xiangqi wanted to clarify something—

Every time Lu Cong evaded his requests to go home, either saying he was too busy or making excuses that the place had been demolished into wasteland and he’d be sad to see it.

In short, he always refused to let Lin Xiangqi go back.

Before, Lin Xiangqi could turn a blind eye, understanding that Lu Cong didn’t have time. But now he realized that every time Lu Cong avoided the crucial point, there was a reason.

He had to go see for himself.

Lin Xiangqi had imagined countless possibilities before standing at his doorstep, none of which resembled his current confusion.

His home hadn’t been demolished.

It was just completely covered by reinforced iron hoardings.

Lin Xiangqi, relying on his agility, successfully climbed over the iron fence using a tree.

But once inside, he found that his entire home was completely sealed off by a special metal mesh.

This kind of sealing didn’t look like it was waiting for demolition, but rather… as if his home was some kind of terrifying place that needed to be isolated.

Lin Xiangqi stood in front of the wire mesh, lost in thought for a while, but then quickly…

… “Get back, stand still!”

Lin Xiangqi didn’t know why, but he had a hunch that getting caught might be troublesome, so he listened.

… He had a good sense of direction and successfully climbed out of the fence and slipped away through a small path.

The people behind him hadn’t caught up yet, but Lin Xiangqi was unlucky and bumped into a passerby in front.

He was about to apologize when he heard the other person exclaim in a surprised, hushed voice:

“…Qi, Qi Zi?!”

Lin Xiangqi looked up and smiled: “Chen Qiutian?”

Lin Xiangqi could still recognize Chen Qiutian because the other person hadn’t changed much in ten years.

Although he had dyed his hair pink and looked trendy, his face was surprisingly well-maintained, with little difference from his youth.

It was already very late, and only the streetlight illuminated the two of them.

Chen Qiutian’s expression was extremely horrified.

Lin Xiangqi understood perfectly.

Anyone would be horrified if someone who had been dead for ten years suddenly appeared before them.

He was thinking about how to explain when Chen Qiutian grabbed his arm and ran:

“—Come with me, don’t let anyone see you!”

Lin Xiangqi almost stumbled: “Hey, hey, hey, why are you running?”

Chen Qiutian spoke without stopping for breath: “Don’t run? Waiting for you to get caught?! “

Lin Xiangqi laughed in exasperation: “Why would they catch me… Wait, are you mistaking me for some clone or robot? I’m the real Lin Xiangqi, really!”

“I know you’re Lin Xiangqi, of course I know you are—”

Chen Qiutian covered his mouth, looking around like a thief, “Shh! Be quiet. Although the guards here have been withdrawn for many years, there are still a few caretakers, and who knows if the Alliance still has people watching.”

Lin Xiangqi had no choice but to follow him, running past several busy intersections, weaving through alleys, until they finally reached Chen Qiutian’s current residence.

Chen Qiutian brought him into his house, where the doors and windows were tightly shut, and even the curtains were drawn.

After making sure no one could hear them, he quickly wiped away tears, turned, and hugged Lin Xiangqi tightly, crying and cursing, “Damn, Lu Cong that madman… he actually did it?!”
