Chapter 98: Now it’s your turn to be in my hands…

In the early morning, warm sunlight filtered in through the window. From downstairs, the distant and near footsteps of the United Administration staff rushing to their posts could be heard.

Amidst this seemingly quiet and beautiful scene, Lin Xi was, as usual, forced to listen to the nagging chatter in his mind. He could clearly feel that a certain contaminant was quite proud of its tactful behavior, repeatedly boasting of its “merits.”

[See, aren’t I exceptionally perceptive!]

[Your commotion last night was so loud, it was really hard for me not to notice, but considering you humans’ sense of dignity, I knocked myself out on the spot.]

[No peeking, oh, I really didn’t peek at all. Don’t you feel moved?]

[Speaking of which, I should be the one in the whole world who has most genuinely experienced your earth-shattering friendship, honestly…]

“If you don’t shut up, I can also knock you out on the spot.”

Lin Xi’s soft but firm sentence interrupted Calamity’s endless stream of words. Finally feeling a moment of peace, he kept his eyes lowered, his specific emotions unreadable. His gaze fell upon a piece of paper on which a few words were neatly written—I’ll be back in a few days.

Lin Xi let out a cold, ambiguous laugh.

Yan Xingzhou, oh Yan Xingzhou, you really run fast. To avoid being questioned about your recent situation, you’ve even learned the trade of leaving as soon as you’ve pulled up your pants.

This really feels more like a clandestine affair than an actual affair.

He reached out and pinched the paper. As flames danced from his fingertips, it instantly burned to ash.

After a simple wash and tidy-up, Lin Xi threw his uniform jacket on, feeling refreshed and ready to go out.

But in any case, when it came to making love, Yan Xingzhou did indeed fulfill all his fantasies about a human body. He was very good at it, which was satisfying.

The moment he stepped out the door, Lin Xi suddenly remembered something.

He returned to the messy room and efficiently packed up the wreckage piled on the floor.

United Administration Headquarters.

Pu Sui stared at the pile of completely scrapped radiation isolators in front of him: “…”

After a full few minutes of silence, he finally found his voice: “So what you mean is, after you brought this equipment back, you just slept for one night, and before you could even take it to the scene, they all self-detonated one by one?”

Lin Xi nodded solemnly. “Where did this batch of equipment come from? The quality is just too poor. If this happened on a real battlefield, how dangerous would that be? I remember our Administration has a suggestion box, right, Adjutant Pu? I think it’s necessary to propose updating all equipment to the models provided by the Wanyuan Group, what do you think?”

The corner of Pu Sui’s mouth finally twitched uncontrollably. He spoke slowly, “…Do you think I can believe that?”

No matter how bad the quality, what kind of equipment can self-detonate into parts without even being activated?!

“Why not?” Lin Xi’s expression looked even more speechless than Pu Sui’s. “I can understand your confusion. After all, I never thought something like this would happen until I experienced it myself last night. It’s absurd, but I have to believe it.”

He stared straight at Pu Sui. Having laid all this groundwork, he finally revealed his true motive. “So the quality issue with the equipment isn’t my fault, right? I won’t apply for medical fees for almost getting injured, and I certainly don’t need to submit any compensation, do I?”

Pu Sui: “……….”

So that was the real reason for this whole roundabout story.

He rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. “The headquarters’ finances are always handled by the First Administration. If you want to apply for a compensation waiver, you can go through the normal procedures.”

“Fine.” Lin Xi reluctantly compromised. Watching Pu Sui take a broom to sweep the debris on the floor, he was about to make a cup of coffee to start his work when he heard the faint sound of footsteps in the hallway outside. They didn’t pass by his office but stopped right at the door.

He looked back, and just as the door opened, his eyes met with the person at the entrance.

Lin Xi was somewhat surprised by the visitor’s appearance. He raised an eyebrow, and before he could speak, Pu Sui had already put the broom aside and given a formal salute. “Director!”

As expected, in the eyes of the Third Administration members, Su Qiuyin would always be the one and only director in their hearts.

Lin Xi didn’t feel jealous. He smiled and said, “What wind blew you here today? How did even you get let out?”

Those words were clearly not pleasant to hear, drawing a dissatisfied look from Pu Sui.

Su Qiuyin, however, didn’t seem annoyed at all. His gaze swept over the debris on the floor. Without answering, he stepped inside.

He was tall, and although he had a daily air of gloom and listlessness, he was still much taller than the average supernatural user. It wasn’t until he walked in that the people in the office could see clearly that two guards were following behind him. They also entered and respectfully handed an instrument to Lin Xi. “Director Lin, the Executor ordered us to escort S09987 here to report. This is now officially handed over to you.”

Looking at the object the supernatural user handed over, Pu Sui’s already unpleasant face was now tinged with anger.

As members of the United Administration, no one knew better than them what this equipment was. It was a restraint tool created specifically for supernatural criminals. The small remote was linked to the collar around the criminal’s neck. If any abnormal behavior was detected, a button could be pressed at any time to restrict their ability usage. This blocking process was undoubtedly agonizing for the recipient, so in a way, it was enough for the holder of the remote to control the supernatural criminal to do anything.

But at this moment, the person wearing this restrictive collar was Su Qiuyin—the former director of their Third Administration.

Lin Xi’s expression was calm as he took the remote. He played with it casually before tossing it into his pocket. The entire overly casual process made the escorting personnel break out in a cold sweat, constantly glancing at Su Qiuyin’s expression, afraid that the two successive directors would clash without a word.

Seeing that the two were still standing there, Lin Xi looked up strangely. “What, is there something else?”

The escorting personnel snapped back to reality, hurriedly saluted, and took their leave.

After successfully getting rid of them, Lin Xi looked at Su Qiuyin with a faint smile. “My, you’ve lost weight.”

Su Qiuyin: “…”

“It seems Executor Gu really is a bit impartial. He didn’t even give you some extra food in prison during this time.” Lin Xi sighed with emotion, walking over to undo the handcuffs made of special metal on Su Qiuyin’s hands. “But when it’s time to use people, he still remembers your existence. It makes me feel a little embarrassed. I can only say that the tables have truly turned. Now it’s your turn to be in my hands.”

Regaining his freedom, Su Qiuyin flexed his wrists, unmoved. “It’s not the first time.”

Pu Sui, who had been growing angry at Lin Xi’s gloating face, was suddenly taken aback by Su Qiuyin’s incomparably calm reply, not understanding its meaning.

After undoing the handcuffs, Lin Xi was about to study the collar on Su Qiuyin’s neck. He was leaning in for a closer look when he was stopped.

Su Qiuyin: “Unlocking the collar requires a dynamic data code from the Executor.”

“Oh, then we won’t unlock it for now.” Lin Xi stood back up with some regret. Glancing at the more pronounced dark circles under Su Qiuyin’s eyes, he slowly blinked. “So, tell me, the Executor suddenly let you out. What kind of tricky trouble has come up this time?”

“…”

A rare look of speechlessness appeared on Su Qiuyin’s face. “As the director of the Third Administration, asking a prisoner who has been locked up for a long time about such matters, are you sure you’ve taken over the job properly?”

Lin Xi glanced at his expression. “Alright, enough nonsense. I see you don’t know either.”

Su Qiuyin: “……….”

A series of notification chimes suddenly rang out in the office.

Pu Sui immediately refocused and hurried to the office computer.

A few seconds later, his expression froze on his face.

Su Qiuyin glanced over. “It seems something has indeed happened.”

Hearing this, Pu Sui finally snapped back to his senses. He looked up, his gaze slowly sweeping over the two of them, and said in a deep voice, “In R Country, several coastal cities have completely fallen…”
