Chapter 88: This is, the sky is changing.

Sometimes, Lin Xi was truly grateful for the privileges that belonged to X-coded ability users.

Although he often held an attitude of treating everyone equally when he was the Executive Officer, he had to admit that, when necessary, such privileges were simply too convenient.

Take the observation period of these few days in the isolation area. Even if others quickly discovered the domain that Yan Xingzhou had separately enclosed in the room, they could only choose to turn a blind eye after consulting with Pu Limo, letting the two of them live out these days of monitoring with the complete feeling of a secluded vacation.

Although Lin Xi had been trying his best to suppress the contamination value emanating from his body these days, Yan Xingzhou was simply too tempting. After several nights of passion, it was inevitable that he couldn’t completely hold it in. This also made him inevitably curious about what kind of mood Pu Limo would be in if he knew that on the other side of a materialized wall, the contamination value had once maxed out, yet the detection equipment right next to it showed no reaction at all.

The seven-day isolation period passed in a flash.

Seven days was basically an observation indicator that could ensure the stability of an ability user’s power.

In fact, after returning from a normal mission, a three-day observation period was already sufficient.

The materialized barrier outside had been withdrawn. Yan Xingzhou was washing up in the bathroom and could vaguely hear Lin Xi’s conversation with the people outside.

It was clear that these seven days had been enough for Lin Xi to eat and drink his fill. Refreshed and in high spirits, his attitude towards the staff outside also seemed particularly friendly: “Hi, long time no see. Have the documents for our release been approved?”

It was a good thing the staff member didn’t know Lin Xi’s true identity. He was able to bear such a smile without any mental burden. However, while replying politely, his tone still couldn’t hide the accusatory emotion that was about to burst out.

It really had been a long time.

Since they entered, the two had completely enclosed themselves in an independent space. They hadn’t even seen them when they delivered their meals. If it weren’t for the fact that these two were distinguished guests from Hua Country, and that Director Pu Limo had approved of this behavior when they applied for instructions, given the degree of interference with their work in the isolation area, a complaint should have been filed long ago to hold them accountable!

One side all smiles, the other with a smile that didn’t reach the eyes. Such a conversation reached his ears from a distance, making Yan Xingzhou shake his head with a helpless smile.

Lin Xi, that person, was sometimes able to deliberately misunderstand what people were saying.

Hanging the towel back in its place, Yan Xingzhou felt his phone vibrate twice and picked it up for a look.

It was Ju Ze’s phone number.

Including this one, his inbox was filled with more than thirty unread messages.

Isolation observation was not surveillance. They were essentially returning from a mission, so they were not required to cut off contact with the outside world. But their phones were not confiscated. Given the self-abandoning and chaotic attitude he and Lin Xi had shown during this period, and knowing they couldn’t leave, they simply hadn’t even glanced at their calls or messages.

Yan Xingzhou’s fingertip touched the phone screen and he slowly began to read from the first unread message downwards.

The initial content was quite normal, mostly about discovering that Lin Xi had also followed him into the rift. The messages from Ju Ze were full of self-blame for his failure to stop him. The subsequent content shifted to some events that had occurred outside during their time in the isolation area.

Yan Xingzhou read slowly, listening to Lin Xi’s cheerful chat with the staff member, and replied to a few key messages. As he continued to read further down, the originally calm expression in his eyes gradually faded.

Finally, his gaze paused on the latest message he had just received, and his eyelid twitched slightly.

[President, you should be able to come out today, right? I have already arranged the connecting flight for you and Mr. Lin’s return journey.]

[It’s just that the situation in various parts of the world is quite bad, leading to an excessive demand for equipment from various places. Within my authority, I have taken the liberty of prioritizing the material needs of the Hua Country region. As for other places, I will have to wait for your return to make a decision.]

[In addition, the data as of last night has been sent to your email. According to the latest statistics, the number of fallen zones in all continents is still increasing. Among them, the number of fallen zones within Hua Country’s borders has also increased to 5, which has affected many flight routes. Please be careful on your way back.]

Ever since the rifts began to appear on Earth, everyone knew that there would sooner or later be a day when human safety would be affected.

When a rift was not dealt with in time, the contaminants inside would pour out in a fully opened state. The areas where these leaked contaminants hatched in the outside world were called contaminated zones.

But the term Ju Ze used in his message was—fallen zones.

Contaminated zones caused by cleanup failures or unmonitored no-man’s-lands were actually not uncommon. But only when an area had completely become a paradise for monsters, leaving everyone helpless, would the grave term “fallen” be used.

Just half a month ago, Yan Xingzhou could clearly remember that the total number of fallen zones in the world did not exceed 5. And now, just within Hua Country’s borders, there were already…

After a moment of silence, Yan Xingzhou pushed open the door and walked out.

Lin Xi heard the movement and turned his head. At a glance, he saw the other’s obviously grave expression. He raised an eyebrow, and the smile in his eyes also quietly faded a bit: “What’s wrong, President Yan? Did Assistant Ju mess up at the group?”

Yan Xingzhou did not answer, but directly handed the phone over.

“So generous. Aren’t you afraid I’ll stumble upon something I’m not supposed to see?” Lin Xi chuckled, but he took it without any hesitation.

Yan Xingzhou: “I’m not afraid. Here with me, there is nothing you can’t see.”

Lin Xi glanced at Yan Xingzhou and started reading the content on the screen.

He showed no change in emotion from beginning to end. It was only after he finished reading and handed the phone back that he looked at Yan Xingzhou and let out a soft sigh: “This is, the sky is changing.”

He took the coat from the side and casually threw it over his shoulders: “Let’s go. It’s time to go back.”

International Ability Management Bureau Headquarters Office.

“Yan Xingzhou and the others should have left the isolation area by now.” In just a few short days, Pu Limo’s originally young and handsome face had gained a bit of沧桑 (cāng sāng) “weatheredness.” He looked back at the man sitting on the sofa and asked again calmly, “Are you sure you don’t plan to explain it to me a little?”

“My dear, I really can’t say!” Although Samuel had just come out of the isolation room, he had already gone home and changed into a very decent set of clothes. Faced with Pu Limo’s questioning, his face was full of sincerity. “But you have to believe me, I really didn’t lie about that matter with Joseph. When the people from the Hua Country United Administration arrived, he was trying to kill me. If Yan hadn’t sent a signal in time for me to find him, I’m afraid I wouldn’t even be able to sit in front of you and have this conversation now.”

Pu Limo stared at him intently: “I know you weren’t lying. You just didn’t tell me the whole truth.”

“…”

Samuel held up his hands in surrender. “Please don’t ask anymore. I really can’t say.”

Pu Limo withdrew his gaze: “Then tell me when you think you can.”

He pressed a red button on the side of his desk. Shortly after, two ability users in black suits walked in from outside: “Yan Xingzhou is about to return to Hua Country. You should have a lot to say to him. Go and see him off. While you’re at it, you can also help me return someone to them.”

“That’s why I’ve always thought their assessment of you doesn’t match your character. Pu Limo, you’re actually very humane.”

The expression on Samuel’s face visibly brightened. He stood up and was about to leave with those men when he suddenly heard Pu Limo call him again. He turned back and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Remember to come back early. After you hand over Su Qiuyin, I have a new mission for you.” Pu Limo leaned back in his chair, staring straight at Samuel, and said slowly, “Samuel, the battle that will decide the future of humanity, this time, I’m afraid it has truly begun.”

After a short silence, Samuel returned a smile: “Got it.”
