Chapter 86: I was wrong, don’t be angry.
A dedicated isolation area for ability users to recuperate after missions.
After receiving treatment from a healing-type ability user, the two were led by a staff member to their prepared isolation room.
Along the way, they continuously encountered ability users who had just been sent over. Some were in stable condition, others were seriously injured. Sounds of distress could be heard rising and falling from the rooms on both sides. Through the cracks of the doors, the fluctuations of abilities leaking out made it easy to feel that many ability users could not withstand the pull of the contamination radiation and were frequently entering a state of losing control.
The surroundings were in a state of chaos. This was probably the most tangible experience Lin Xi had ever had of the turmoil caused by the outbreak of the rifts.
This was the closest and most advanced professional isolation area to Country A’s first-tier administrative district. If even this place was like this, it was not difficult to imagine the chaos that other places around the world had fallen into.
This inevitably made Lin Xi think of the words Calamity had said before.
—So all of this now is just the beginning.
“We’re here.” The staff member’s voice pulled Lin Xi back from his thoughts. With a slight apology, he said, “You two have already seen the situation here. The number of people being sent to the isolation area has exceeded the limit, and for now, there are no more single isolation rooms available. As per the director’s instructions, we have cleared out our largest double room for you two. We really couldn’t find an extra single room, so please bear with it for a while…”
“It’s fine, this is great.” Before the staff member could finish, Yan Xingzhou had already interrupted him in a flat tone. He looked up and saw the person still standing there, and cast an inquiring gaze. “Besides needing us to stay here for observation, is there anything else?”
“Ah, no, that’s all.” The staff member instinctively straightened his back under this gaze and quickly said, “Rest assured, according to the results of the just-completed examination, you two should be able to leave in a day or two. Then I, I’ll…”
He gave a sharp salute and made a move to exit the room: “If you need anything during this period, you can contact our staff at any time by pressing the communication button.”
“Um, actually…”
Before he could finish, Lin Xi saw the staff member retreat as if fleeing.
As the lock of the isolation room clicked shut from the outside, the spacious double isolation room became completely quiet, and even the noise from the corridor outside was completely blocked out.
Lin Xi: “…”
Without turning his head, he could feel the temperature in this confined space begin to drop sharply.
Better late than never, huh.
Lin Xi slowly lowered his head and supported his forehead, sighing silently in his heart.
Before the person behind him could speak, he turned around without any warning, grabbed his collar with one hand, and pushed him back. Without giving him any chance to react, he pushed Yan Xingzhou directly against the wall, tilted his head up, and kissed him straight on.
A hot and hurried kiss was more than enough to completely block all the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
Fingers intertwined, the contact of their warm bodies, as if still shrouded in the blazing fire of the rift, finally left only the sticky, fragmented breaths between them.
Lin Xi looked up and met Yan Xingzhou’s gaze without any avoidance, his slightly hoarse voice deliberately lowered a few notches: “I was wrong, don’t be angry.”
“…” All the words Yan Xingzhou had been about to say shattered in an instant under this deliberately soft and yielding posture. The emotions pent up in his chest were completely blocked.
He slowly took a breath, still wanting to maintain a tough attitude, but then he saw Lin Xi tilt his head up again, gently bite his earlobe, and kiss his temple in a placating and gentle manner, continuing down his neck with soothing kisses. At such a close distance, his voice was almost whispered against his ear: “I really know I was wrong. Don’t be angry anymore, okay?”
Yan Xingzhou: “…”
His throat bobbed twice. Feeling the close contact of their bodies through their clothes, he finally lowered his eyelids slowly: “I specifically told Ju Ze, just so you wouldn’t do anything rash.”
“Mmm… I know.” Lin Xi’s kisses reached his collarbone. He could feel Yan Xingzhou’s body gradually tensing up. Hearing the other party’s clearly softened tone, a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes. “I had just come out of Gu Beiqiu’s office at that time and was already on my way with Su Qiuyin. Assistant Ju said you didn’t mention Joseph at all when you left, so I probably guessed your thoughts.”
Yan Xingzhou: “But you still went.”
“I couldn’t help it. The conditions the Executive Officer offered were too tempting, so…”
Lin Xi’s words were cut short. His chin was lifted by a force, forcing him to meet Yan Xingzhou’s eyes, and then he was kissed fiercely. In between the intermittent, broken breaths, he finally gasped in pain: “Hiss—!”
Bitten unexpectedly, Lin Xi touched his bitten lip after Yan Xingzhou let go and asked with a half-smile, “President Yan, since when did you start acting like a dog?”
In a dizzying spin, the two figures became entangled. With a soft sound, Lin Xi was completely pressed onto the bed of the isolation room.
Just as the staff member had said, although it was a double room, it was clear that this was indeed a well-equipped, high-end isolation room. Just from the decor, aside from the precise backup equipment, the level of luxury was comparable to a deluxe hotel.
Yan Xingzhou’s weight was almost completely on top of Lin Xi. He seemed not to have heard the teasing just now at all: “I thought you weren’t afraid of pain.”
“I’ve died once. Although I can say I’m not afraid of death, I don’t think I’ve ever said I’m not afraid of pain.” Lin Xi had struck first earlier. The settling of scores was late but had arrived. At least he could feel that he had placated him halfway. He let out a low chuckle. “But if it’s you who does it, no matter how much it hurts, I’ll gladly take it.”
He could feel Yan Xingzhou pressing against him, his outstretched hand unbuttoning the buttons of his collar one by one, his hot fingertips tracing down the tense muscles of his chest: “Or, if you want to try it now…”
His wrist was grabbed. As their bodies moved closer, their heartbeats almost slowly merged. Yan Xingzhou naturally knew that Lin Xi was deliberately trying to distract him, but even so, stopping such a deliberate provocation, his tone was tense to the extreme in order to remain calm: “I know you need to get into the United Administration… Some things, the answers can only be found there. At least you need to know what Shen Nanyang is really… planning to do. But you should also know very well that if such a risky venture fails, the price is too great… Not to mention that before entering the rift, you had no idea what the specific situation was inside. Just… huff. Just being covered by such strong contamination radiation for a long time, have you ever thought about the contamination value suppressed in your body…”
“I have.” Lin Xi’s hands were restrained. His slightly raised thigh still rubbed affectionately. He seemed to enjoy this state of Yan Xingzhou forcibly maintaining a rational conversation, smilingly letting the brewing emotions gradually dissipate, the frequency of his rubbing also increasing. “At worst, it will just completely erupt, and I’ll perish with this world. This is a risk… I can still afford to take.”
Yan Xingzhou: “You…”
Before Yan Xingzhou could speak, Lin Xi soothingly kissed his lips repeatedly. The faint smell of blood from the broken corner of his mouth spread through their nostrils, and his tone also trembled slightly as he said hoarsely: “But I can’t allow myself to risk… whether you can come back safely.”
His hand had already unbuckled Yan Xingzhou’s belt. Feeling the increasingly strong spiritual fluctuations of the man around him, under the exhaustion of forcibly suppressing the contamination value in a short period, a strong desire emerged from the bottom of his heart. His slender fingers began to wander gently and demandingly, his words coming out in broken phrases with his breath: “Joseph is just trash. If because of… this, this trash, you were implicated and… trapped in that rift like Samuel.”
Their breaths had long since become completely entangled.
Intense, tense, hot, all suppressed to the extreme.
Feeling the halo of light before his eyes gradually disperse, Lin Xi slowly let out a sigh: “Then even if I stayed outside safely, I’m afraid I would—completely lose control.”
