Chapter 82: “They all know your iden…”

The flames that could devour everything burned the surroundings, causing the restless power in his blood to stir continuously. This intense tearing sensation was not something an ordinary human could withstand. On top of that, Lin Xi had just forcibly suppressed Calamity back into his body. At this moment, his handsome face was illuminated by the flickering firelight, yet it was so calm that not the slightest ripple could be felt. Even his faintly smiling tone was filled with nonchalance as he stated: “You are afraid.”

As his voice fell, there was no reply.

Lin Xi did not push away the hand Yan Xingzhou held in front of his eyes, his smile widening: “But this is what I look like now, Yan Xingzhou. You…”

The rest of his words were cut short by a sudden embrace.

With his other hand, he gently wrapped it around from the side, lightly holding Lin Xi. He could clearly smell the faint scent of sweat from Yan Xingzhou’s journey. He heard the person behind him finally speak: “No matter what happens, I will always stand by your side like this, and hold onto you.”

Hold onto you.

Lin Xi slowly lowered his eyes, a strange glint flashing in the depths of his scarlet pupils.

Such simple words, yet how difficult they were to actually do.

A moment later, a smile of unknown meaning appeared on his face: “Mhm, I’ll take you seriously.”

The crackling flames burned everything to ashes.

Lin Xi pressed down Yan Xingzhou’s hand and looked up, finally seeing the rift opening, which had not been seen since he entered, reappear in the distant field of vision.

“Looks like the timing is just right,” Lin Xi smiled.

Yan Xingzhou naturally understood the meaning behind his words.

From the state of the rift opening before them, it was already infinitely close to being fully open. If they had been just a step slower, the connection between this world and the outside would have been completely opened. No wonder that contaminant called Abyss had tried to stall him earlier. The so-called cooperation itself did not exist. Its ultimate goal was simply to use his power to hold back Lin Xi, wait for this connecting bridge to be completely constructed, and then it could release all the contaminants from inside.

“Can you still feel its presence?” Yan Xingzhou asked.

“Abyss?” Lin Xi lowered his eyes and searched for a moment, then said, “It should be gone.”

Although he didn’t know what method it used, it was clear that this cunning contaminant had withdrawn after realizing the situation was not in its favor, most likely related to its own ability. It was unknown how much time and energy it had spent piecing together this vast and magnificent world. Now that it was destroyed in an instant, who knew what the situation would be like when it made a comeback. He felt that it would not be a good scene.

Lin Xi slowly straightened his body: “In any case, we can at least get out now. It’s just that my current appearance doesn’t seem suitable for appearing directly in front of others.”

He raised his eyes, his vertical pupils staring straight at Yan Xingzhou. A moment later, he suddenly smiled: “Of course, this is also good. After all, it seems we still have some things to deal with over here, don’t we?”

As his voice fell, Lin Xi silently tilted his head, his gaze sweeping past Yan Xingzhou and landing on the figures behind him.

All the devoured world fragments caused the entire inner world of the rift to collapse one after another. As the space continuously compressed, what appeared in their field of vision was not only the rift opening that could allow them to leave, but also the other people who were also here.

In a moment of inattention, no one noticed how long those three figures had been standing there.

“Are you really Lin, Lin, Lin…” Samuel’s gaze remained fixed on Lin Xi, unable to finish the name. Finally, with complex emotions, he stepped forward quickly, about to open his arms in irrepressible joy, but he stopped short under an emotionless gaze that swept over him.

Although it was just a glance, it was as if a venomous snake had suddenly coiled around his body. The chill that rose in an instant made his body, instinctively on high alert, almost launch an attack.

Lin Xi sensed the instantaneous tightening of Samuel’s ability fluctuations. His faintly smiling expression showed no ripple as he answered with a question: “Do you think I am still Lin Xi?”

A single sentence made Samuel freeze completely.

The man before him, whether it was his obvious non-human features or the powerful, suffocating contamination radiation emanating from his entire body, was undoubtedly conveying a single message—

He was already a complete and utter contaminant.

But…

What was expected to be a long silence was broken when Samuel, somewhat agitated, ran a hand through his golden hair and suddenly laughed out loud: “I knew it, I should have thought of it earlier! A person like Yan, who else could he be interested in besides you… Lin Xi, I can’t believe it’s really you, I can’t believe you’re still alive, that’s really great! It’s just that you’re not treating me much like a friend. We’ve clearly met, yet you kept pretending not to know me. Don’t you think it’s a bit too much to treat a friend like that!”

Suddenly hit with an accusation, Lin Xi’s eyebrows raised in surprise. He looked at Samuel for a while and also laughed, passing the blame very naturally: “It was Yan Xingzhou’s idea.”

Yan Xingzhou: “…”

“I thought so. After all, with our relationship, there’s no way we wouldn’t have even that little bit of trust.” Samuel took the opportunity to glare at Yan Xingzhou, then said to Lin Xi sincerely, “But you look absolutely cool as hell like this.”

Lin Xi: “Thank you for the compliment. I think so too.”

Someone spoke up from the side in a low voice: “Lin Xi, it’s really you!”

The smile in Lin Xi’s eyes instantly sank. He looked at Joseph with a cold expression: “Oh, you’re not dead yet.”

Joseph’s current situation was indeed quite pathetic. The arm that had been severed by Yan Xingzhou had not been treated and was still bleeding continuously.

Seeing Lin Xi look at him, his already tense face became even grimmer, and the corner of his mouth twitched faintly: “You still have that disgusting, superior attitude.”

“That depends on who I’m dealing with. After all, you are still so arrogant and insubordinate.” Lin Xi strode up to Joseph, looking down at the figure sitting on the ground, barely supporting himself. “I believe Pu Limo didn’t let you in here to attack Samuel, yet you took advantage of the isolation from the outside world to try and do as you pleased. Sometimes I don’t know whether to praise you for being clever at exploiting loopholes in contracts or to call you stupid. So what if you really took this opportunity to get rid of Samuel? Even if you were the only X-coded ability user left in Country A, neither Pu Limo nor the people at the General Management Bureau would unconditionally tolerate an uncontrollable pawn.”

“An uncontrollable pawn, are you talking about yourself?” Joseph gritted his teeth and sneered. “As expected, whether it was the news of your death three years ago or Gu Beiqiu’s report this time, it was all to cover up the reality of you becoming this kind of monster. I knew it, Gu Beiqiu is just a dog you keep by your side. How could he have the guts to kill you? It seems the Hua Country United Administration has really gone to great lengths to cover up this scandal. But this kind of thing will be exposed sooner or later! A contaminant, hahaha, how ridiculous! Who would have thought that the great Director Lin would be reduced to such a complete contaminant! The Hua Country United Administration can’t protect you. As long as Pu Limo knows the truth, he will absolutely not allow such a great threat to exist.”

Lin Xi’s expression was calm: “What if he doesn’t find out?”

Joseph’s expression faltered slightly. He had clearly caught the killing intent in Lin Xi’s eyes, but he laughed without fear: “What, you want to get rid of me here? You are the former Executive Officer of the Hua Country United Administration. You should be well aware of the consequences of doing so. Of all the people who came in together, if the Hua Country ability users walk away unscathed while everyone else perishes, anyone can see there’s a problem. Have you thought about how you’re going to explain this to my country’s Ability Management Bureau?”

Lin Xi: “Who told you that the Hua Country ability users will walk away unscathed? And who told you that all the Country A ability users died heroically?”

Joseph suddenly looked up.

Samuel noticed the gaze directed at him, blinked, and innocently looked away: “Ah, I fainted from ability exhaustion a long time ago. I have no idea what happened!”

Lin Xi slowly raised his hand, not a trace of pity in his eyes: “Get ready to die.”

“No, you can’t—!” Joseph struggled angrily. “Samuel, you traitor!”

Feeling the threat of death so intensely for the first time, his first reaction was to drag Samuel down with him.

The killing intent in Lin Xi’s eyes grew stronger. Just as he was about to strike, he seemed to sense something and paused slightly.

The next second, Joseph seemed to be disturbed by something. He clutched his head tightly, his features twisting in pain.

Before he could guard against it, a sharp, explosive sound pierced through Joseph’s mind.

All his blood vessels burst in an instant. Before he could even find the culprit, he collapsed to the ground, bleeding from his eyes and nose.

The sudden development plunged the surroundings into a brief silence.

Lin Xi looked at the man who had acted before him.

After forcibly gathering his power for a short period, Su Qiuyin had collapsed back onto the ground. The backlash from overexerting himself made his face even paler.

A trace of confusion flashed in Lin Xi’s eyes.

He really hadn’t expected Su Qiuyin, who had the least standing and likelihood to act, to suddenly strike. And with such an unreserved, fatal blow.

After a moment of stunned silence, Samuel finally reacted. He let out a low whistle, his tone filled with surprise and hurt: “Dear Lin, so it’s true, everyone except me knew your identity from the very beginning!?”
