Chapter 80: “Impossible, how could he…”

Reflected in the heterochromatic pupils were overwhelming, blazing flames, and the contaminants that grew more ferocious with fear.

The sea of fire, surging in all directions like a monstrous wave, did not diminish with the passage of time. Instead, accompanied by the increasingly wild curve of his lips, it grew even more intense.

As if extremely enjoying this wanton and flamboyant feeling, Lin Xi could feel his soul seemingly burning along with these unrestrained flames. The boiling blood in his body, however, was gradually pushing the irrepressible pleasure to a high point.

The next second, a rift tore open in the space beside him without warning. A black giant claw, before it could even get close to his body, was swallowed by a rising wall of fire with a silent flick of a finger, a punch as heavy as a thousand pounds.

The tough flesh and skin dissolved in an instant, and it retracted as if electrocuted.

A moment later, as the space not far away tore open, the tall figure of Abyss slowly walked out from within.

He was undoubtedly in a very sorry state compared to the beginning. Although he had no obvious injuries other than the giant claw that was now scorched black, a closer look would reveal that, apart from the face with its huge eye, all four of his limbs were no longer their original form.

He grabbed his right arm with his left hand and twisted it fiercely. Accompanied by the sound of tearing bones, He forcefully tore off the disabled right limb.

Reaching out, He once again took out a remnant limb from the void beside him. As He pressed it into the same position, one could clearly see the broken bone and blood on both sides, as if possessing life, intertwining bit by bit, gradually connecting.

A stitched monster.

In a way, this description was undoubtedly very fitting. The monster before him could not only piece together these world fragments collected from who-knows-where, but it could also piece together everything that appeared in its perception.

“No wonder Calamity fell at your hands. I must admit, the ability you possess is indeed the absolute bane of us contaminants.” After reinstalling the new limb, Abyss’s eye narrowed slightly as He looked up at Lin Xi. “Devouring, is it? Flames that can devour everything, it certainly sounds invincible. But are you sure you want to keep going like this? The lesson you learned before should have made you realize it, ‘devouring’ is not ultimately destruction. Everything you destroy is acting on your body in another form.”

He stared intently at the man before him, whose wild red hair and crazed demeanor made him seem even more maniacal than He was, and stated slowly: “Former Executive Officer of humanity, you should be able to feel the intense power contained within all the world fragments I possess. Using your devouring ability to destroy all the fragments of this world might indeed be a good way to completely escape my control and get out of here, but the contamination value that shaped this world is simply not at a level that humans can withstand. Before you can leave here, your spiritual world, including this body, will probably have already collapsed first.”

The low words, like a curse, fell into Lin Xi’s ears, only to be met with a radiant smile: “Thank you for the reminder, but how would we know if we don’t try.”

An inscrutable light flickered in the depths of Abyss’s eye: “Could it be that you’re really not worried at all about letting Him out…”

The rest of his words were cut off by a whistling tongue of fire. The next second, a powerful airflow, along with the flames erupting from Lin Xi’s side, roared like a torrent. Something in the surroundings invisibly dissolved and collapsed, like a transparent vessel being completely shattered. Amidst the continuous cracking sound of fragmentation, countless rifts gradually spread across the field of vision.

Seeing his surroundings change once again, Lin Xi tilted his head quite playfully. The black vines had crazily proliferated, already covering almost half of his face, making his usually harmless smile appear even more bizarre and bewitching: “How many scenes have you switched me to? I think it was, the 28th? It seems you have quite a large stock of world fragments on hand.”

As the final note of his soft laughter fell, a wave of energy, even more powerful than before, instantly engulfed everything.

The ground trembled precariously. The all-consuming sea of fire once again reduced the new world that had just appeared before his eyes to nothingness.

Only his slightly raised tone became more joyful: “The 29th.”

The laughter in his mind was also incessant: [Hee hee hee, it’s about time you let me out to play, right?]

Lin Xi chuckled silently: “Weren’t you waiting for this moment all along?”

A wind swept through the dense sea of fire. On the face that still held a smile, the voice in his mind seemed to gradually merge with the softly spoken words: “I have indeed been waiting for a long time. After all, I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like to have a real physical form… It’s truly… incredibly nostalgic.”

The vibrations coming from under his feet grew more and more intense, but Yan Xingzhou’s steps did not falter in the slightest.

At the end of his vision was the glow of fire that had almost swallowed half the sky. The sky, a mixture of different colors, was bizarre, yet it seemed to have been thoroughly dyed with thick blood, like a scene of demonic encounter.

And what alarmed him even more was that as he got closer, the increasingly strong fluctuation of contamination value felt incredibly familiar.

It’s Lin Xi.

As expected, he was the final target of that S-class contaminant.

Yan Xingzhou rushed over there as fast as he possibly could, wishing more than ever that he had another Samuel by his side. Suddenly, he caught sight of a figure in a cloud of scattered sand and dust. His steps came to an abrupt halt, and he raised his hand and waved without hesitation.

With a “clang—!”, the two forces colliding in the air completely exploded into a blast of airflow.

The layers of stirred-up dust gradually dissipated, and the view became clear again, just in time for the person in front to turn and look, meeting Yan Xingzhou’s eyes.

“You’re really a lingering ghost, Yan, Xing, Zhou!” Joseph squeezed the words out from between his teeth, his extremely low and hoarse voice, combined with his mangled appearance, showed he was already at the end of his rope. And the one he was viciously stomping on was Su Qiuyin. Upon hearing Yan Xingzhou’s name, the hand hanging by his side moved slightly. The fatal blow that had been aimed straight at him just now was clearly intended to kill.

Yan Xingzhou confirmed that Su Qiuyin was still alive and was in no mood to get entangled: “I don’t have time to deal with you right now. Leave Su Qiuyin, and you can go.”

Joseph was already furious at being pushed to this extent by an ordinary ability user like Su Qiuyin. Under Yan Xingzhou’s obviously contemptuous attitude, he became even more enraged: “Go? None of you are going anywhere—!”

Seeing Joseph charge at him, Yan Xingzhou, annoyed, frowned in extreme impatience.

An overwhelming, immense pressure was about to crush him completely from all directions. As a huge, invisible barrier was erected, a massive giant blade appeared out of thin air and slashed straight down towards Joseph.

The earth shook and the mountains swayed.

The originally flat ground was forcefully split open into a deep abyss.

Unable to dodge in time, Joseph had an arm brutally severed. In his scream, his widened eyes were filled with bloodshot veins: “Country A… Country A’s Ability Management Bureau will absolutely not let you… go! Yan, Xing, Zhou!”

As Yan Xingzhou passed by him, he directly lifted his foot and kicked the man aside, not giving him another glance.

He casually gave a protective barrier to the struggling Su Qiuyin. Just as he was about to look for Lin Xi, he sensed a change in the surrounding environment, and his steps paused slightly.

Along the way, he had lost count of how many constantly changing worlds he had passed through. But just a short while ago, apparently because that contaminant was preoccupied, it had not playfully switched his location for a long time. But now, he could clearly feel the environment changing once again.

Is it going to—

No, that’s not right.

Yan Xingzhou had thought he would be thrown to the very edge of this world again by that S-class contaminant, but his gaze froze on the figure that came into view.

That contaminant had actually teleported them directly to Lin Xi’s location!?

Vaguely, the bad premonition grew stronger.

He turned his head and scanned the other two who had also been teleported over. Unsurprisingly, he saw another figure fall into his line of sight.

Everyone had been gathered once again.

Samuel’s tone was pleasantly surprised: “My God, Yan! We meet again!”

When these words fell into his ears, Yan Xingzhou had no time to pay attention to this friend he had been missing just a moment ago. In fact, his expression grew even grimmer.

In a flash, Samuel, who had also been teleported, came over, struggling to maintain his exhausted state. He was puzzled by Yan Xingzhou’s completely unmoved attitude. He inadvertently looked up, and his blue pupils couldn’t help but widen slightly: “Wait, Yan, isn’t that person over there Lin—”

After a very subtle pause, the end of his sentence was also clearly lowered: “No, that’s not right. He’s not Lin Ni.”

On the other side, even Joseph, who had just lost an arm, had momentarily forgotten the pain. His voice rose in disbelief: “This ability… impossible, how could he still be alive!?”

Yan Xingzhou did not answer.

With a somber expression, even the glow of fire that filled his entire field of vision at close range could not hide the coldness rising from the deepest depths.

In this already very bad situation, there was something even worse.

Just one glance was enough for Yan Xingzhou to discover—Lin Xi’s state was not right.
