Chapter 59: Shen Nanyang.
The sound of the successful message sending alert chimed, and was quickly drowned out by the pattering sound of water.
The man’s bare upper body was completely soaked under the shower’s spray. Only this intense coolness could suppress the desires surging up from the depths of his body.
A considerable amount of time had passed since they had completely left the rift, but even so, it was as if he had acquired a taste for it. The overwhelming sensations brought by the Charm Water were still vivid in his mind. Just by closing his eyes slightly, the scenes that had occurred underwater would replay clearly in his mind like a movie, impossible to shake off.
In a brief moment of distraction, Yan Xingzhou could feel a faint reaction from below again. He turned the shower to its maximum setting once more, letting a sheet of cold water pour over his head.
The water droplets hitting his body were like a torrential downpour. He leaned against the front wall, panting lowly, and finally, in silent forbearance, he gradually calmed down.
Only the quiet sound of flowing water remained in the bathroom. Yan Xingzhou let out a breath, grabbed the bath towel hanging nearby, wrapped it around his lower body, and stepped out.
Whether they were dream-type or mental-type ability users, there were endless cases of them completely losing their minds after getting lost in their own abilities. Yan Xingzhou believed he would not become one of these foolish individuals, but at the same time, today’s experience, the most humiliating in all his years, was undoubtedly a warning from the side—both his ability fluctuation frequency and his mental stability were already in a very dangerous state.
Just as he walked out of the bathroom, a gust of wind blew by. Yan Xingzhou’s body suddenly swayed slightly. He hastily steadied himself against the nearby wall, preventing himself from collapsing from the intense, drilling pain that suddenly flared up in his mind.
In that instant, he clearly saw all the scenes in the hotel suite undergo a distinct transformation. At that moment, it was as if he had returned to his room in his own villa. The figure standing in the distance smiled at him… After shaking his head fiercely, the intense dizziness gradually dissipated. When he focused his gaze again, all the scenes had returned to their original appearance.
However, Yan Xingzhou’s gaze lingered for a long time on the dining table not far away.
The half-full glass of red wine on it seemed to be something that should have been in his room. How did it appear here?
Had he misremembered, or was it that the bottle of red wine was originally opened by him after he arrived at the hotel…
“It seems memory confusion has finally started to appear.”
Yan Xingzhou lowered his eyes, his expression emotionless. He recalled the test feedback he had received the last time he saw a doctor and suddenly let out a laugh of unknown meaning. Just then, a call came in. Hearing the ringtone, he had already composed his usual faint expression in an instant. He glanced at the caller ID and pressed answer. “Hello, are you here?”
Ju Ze’s voice came from the other end of the phone: “President, I’m already downstairs. I’ll bring up the change of clothes for you right away.”
The plane tickets for the two of them had originally been booked by Ju Ze. Although he had already heard about the major incident of the mid-air rift, his hesitant tone clearly showed his curiosity about his boss’s strange request for a change of clothes.
“Mmm.” Yan Xingzhou had no intention of explaining much. “Change the rest of the schedule while you’re at it. Contact the airport to arrange a private flight. I’m leaving for J City in a bit.”
Ju Ze couldn’t help but be stunned for a moment. “Now? So soon?”
“Yes, the sooner the better.” Yan Xingzhou thought of the name mentioned in the message Lin Xi had just sent, and his eyes instantly darkened to the extreme.
Shen Nanyang.
That madman at the pinnacle of academic research wanted to see Lin Xi.
He hadn’t objected at the time, simply because he knew very well that once Lin Xi made a decision, no one could stop him.
So, what he had to do was to prepare as best he could to deal with all possible consequences.
The events of three years ago would absolutely not happen a second time. And all the people hiding in the shadows needed to pay the price.
J City.
On the open ground of the Spatial Transfer Station, with the joint efforts of several spatial-type ability users, a few bolts of electricity flashed across the empty ground. A moment later, it was as if the entire space was split from the center, and a car appeared out of thin air, speeding out.
Once everything around had returned to normal, a group of people quickly went up to greet it.
Su Qiuyin signaled for Lin Xi to stay in the car, then pushed open the car door and got out himself. Speaking through the car window, he said, “They will take you directly to the headquarters. I have some other business, so I’ll be leaving first.”
Lin Xi showed no reluctance at all, waving with a smile. “Then I won’t see you off.”
Su Qiuyin stood where he was, watching the car drive out of the transfer station gate with an emotionless expression. Only then did he retract his gaze and look at the anxious liaison officer beside him. “The data report is with you?”
“Yes, please follow me.” The liaison officer’s expression looked very anxious. “I’m very sorry to have you make this trip on such short notice, but from the test results we just received, I’m afraid something really big is about to happen…”
He led Su Qiuyin towards the office building as he spoke.
Watching the gate gradually disappear from view, Lin Xi finally looked away.
Through the rearview mirror, he could see the stoic face of the ability user in the driver’s seat, and he suddenly couldn’t help but smile.
The people under Su Qiuyin’s command really did conform to his personal tastes, as always.
Thinking this, he rolled down the car window a little, watching the scenery recede outside. He squinted his eyes slightly in the chaotic wind.
Gradually, familiar streets and buildings came into view, yet they seemed somewhat unfamiliar due to the years that had passed.
J City.
He had once turned the tides and commanded the winds in this capital city. Now, times had changed. Tsk, it really did make him feel a bit sentimental.
Driving from the suburbs into the city, the hustle and bustle of the city gradually became more apparent.
Later, they entered the outer ring road and drove for a long time before a towering building finally came into view.
Lin Xi looked up, and the first thing that caught his eye was the lower half of the tall building, which had obviously undergone a complete renovation. He blinked and laughed out loud.
Noticing the driver in front glancing at him at the sound, he laughed even louder.
According to the information he had gathered earlier, Yan Xingzhou had directly stormed the Alliance headquarters with his men three years ago. Looking at it now, this was clearly the historical remnant of that event.
The headquarters building was not located in the city center, but it was in a very prosperous area.
But even with people coming and going, everyone instinctively kept their distance under the strict patrol of the ability user guards. This made the Third Division’s dedicated car, which was driving straight in, particularly conspicuous.
They must have been notified in advance. After passing through several patrol lines without any hindrance, Lin Xi had just gotten out of the car at the headquarters building entrance when someone came up to greet him. “Mr. Lin Ni, is it? We’ve been waiting for a long time. This way, please.”
Lin Xi nodded pleasantly and followed him inside very cooperatively.
The person receiving him looked to be only in his early twenties, but his speech and manner were very capable. Judging from the badge on his uniform, he should be from the First Division.
Lin Xi gave him a casual glance. After walking through the main doors of the building, he focused his attention on the main lobby of the Alliance headquarters.
Compared to the almost completely revamped exterior, the furnishings inside the lobby still had a familiar feel.
To his surprise, even the large money tree in the center of the entrance had not changed at all. It was even still preserved at the angle he had personally designated. But if he remembered correctly, when he had brought this tree back after taking office, everyone had clearly been very disdainful of it, especially Gu Beiqiu. If he had dared not speak out against this different aesthetic style back then due to his status, now that he was the great Executive Gu, he had actually let it remain without remembering to change it.
The receptionist was clearly used to the novelty and excitement of ability users arriving at the Alliance headquarters. As he walked, he kindly reminded, “It’s best not to look around too much when you come in here.”
“Mmm, understood.”
Lin Xi replied obediently. After retracting his gaze, he glanced at the figure leading the way in front of him and silently shook his head.
The way the First Division did things hadn’t changed one bit either.
“Please rest here for a moment.” After leading Lin Xi to the lounge, the receptionist turned and left.
Watching the door close quietly, Lin Xi looked around, poured himself a cup of hot water, and sat down on the sofa.
The whole process was so natural and casual, as if he had returned to his own home.
Lin Xi looked at everything in the lounge, a sense of nostalgia in his expression.
In a way, this place had indeed been his home once.
After so many years, every brick and tile in this building, even the air filled with the myriad mixed fluctuations of abilities, felt incredibly familiar to him.
“Hey, are you awake yet?”
Overwhelmed with emotion, Lin Xi asked silently in his mind. After a long time without a response, “…”
This Calamity thing was getting more and more skilled at knocking itself out. It still wasn’t awake?
Lin Xi sighed helplessly. Out of sheer boredom, he was just thinking about whether to play a few more rounds of the match-3 game when he heard footsteps outside.
The Alliance headquarters building was a busy place with people constantly coming and going. There were always many people in the corridors. But the rhythm of these footsteps made Lin Xi look up and stare fixedly at the door.
A few seconds later, with the sound of the handle turning, the door to the lounge was pushed open from the outside.
As Lin Xi looked over, the person who entered met his gaze.
After a brief moment of eye contact, the man in the white coat spoke in a calm voice: “You are ‘Lin Ni,’ Mr. Lin?”
Lin Xi raised the corners of his mouth into a perfect curve, his questioning expression also just right. “I am. And you are?”
“A pleasure to meet you for the first time.”
The man replied, “I am the director of the Central Research Institute, Shen Nanyang.”
