Chapter 129: Imprisonment
“Cough cough, cough.” By the time Primo finally caught his breath and looked up, he saw the man, who was not treating himself as an outsider at all, sitting nonchalantly on the sofa directly opposite him, stretching his limbs and looking at him with a half-smile.
Behind, Gu Beiqiu controlled the expression on his face well and considerately closed the office door after entering.
The desk in front of Primo was piled with messy documents, a stark contrast to his usual meticulous style.
At this moment, his face was filled with the fatigue of several sleepless days. He stared fixedly at the figure with bright red hair and frowned. “Who did you say you were?”
Lin Xi glanced at him with a grin. “Stop pretending. My identity, didn’t you already have some guesses when Shen Nanyang came to you in person?”
After a few seconds of silence, Primo’s expression also relaxed. “That was just a guess. After all…”
He glanced faintly at Gu Beiqiu beside him. “The relationships in your Hua Country region are indeed a bit too chaotic. As an outsider, sometimes I really can’t figure it out.”
Lin Xi was noncommittal. “You don’t need to worry about Hua Country’s internal affairs, Director. I came to find you this time just to tell you one thing.”
The current situation was exceptionally grim. Primo had indeed not slept well for several days. After confirming Lin Xi’s identity, he seemed to let out a breath of relief and leaned back slowly in his chair. “Are you going to the contamination zone to provide support on behalf of the Hua Country United Administration?”
Lin Xi replied, “No, quite the opposite. I want you to call back the support troops from all countries.”
Primo’s expression paused slightly, and he frowned. “Reason?”
Gu Beiqiu, standing to the side, couldn’t help but glance at the two people in the room.
In the past, he used to stand silently by his Executor’s side just like this, entering and leaving this office. He had to admit that there had always been a special kind of tacit understanding between these two. Just like this proposal, if it had been anyone else, Primo would probably have rejected it outright long ago. But because the person sitting in front of him was Lin Xi, his first reaction was to naturally ask for a reason—even though the person before him was no longer human.
This was an instinctive trust.
Trust that this person, no matter when, would at least not stand on the opposite side of humanity.
Only the calm narration remained in the enclosed room.
Lin Xi succinctly informed Primo of the clues he currently knew. Glancing at the other’s grim face, he knew that the other party had already grasped the key points.
“So you’re saying, the open rift openings in the contamination zone are actually from other regions on Earth?” Primo’s face became even more solemn. “But if there really is a contaminant that can move the location of rift openings, then as long as new rifts enter an active period anywhere in the world, it will be impossible to stop the crisis from worsening.”
“And, there’s also a very troublesome suture monster there that can connect the inner worlds of other contaminants to these rift openings,” Lin Xi said slowly. His unhurried tone didn’t sound at all like he was discussing the greatest crisis in human history. Instead, he observed Primo’s expression with great interest. “I believe that with your superior intelligence, Director, you should already know why the ability users from all countries should hurry back.”
Primo nodded. “Blocking the source of everything is indeed more meaningful than suicide missions to the front line.”
He sighed lightly, the style of the conversation suddenly changing. “You’ve really changed a lot.”
If it were the old Lin Xi, although he would have the same unperturbed appearance, when facing the future of humanity, he would absolutely not have this attitude of it being none of his business.
This was the first time Primo felt some kind of subtle change existing under this inhuman guise, but there was still a trace of relief—although he had changed, it seemed he hadn’t completely changed. Otherwise, this person wouldn’t have appeared in his office at this time today, not hesitating to expose his own identity to correct his tactical errors.
Primo looked deeply at Lin Xi. “But I still have to thank you for your reminder, and thank you for clearing up my doubts from this period.”
These rifts had appeared in the skies of Country A without any warning. At that time, no one could explain why these almost fully opened rifts would suddenly appear. After all, it was well known that the higher the intensity of a rift, the slower it opened. Now it seemed that it was likely that low-level rifts that had already opened elsewhere were transferred over, and then the so-called inner world suture was used to create new S-rank rifts.
“Verbal thanks are unnecessary.” Lin Xi slowly sat up straight, looking directly at Primo, and slowly stated the main purpose of his visit this time. “If you really want to thank me, then cooperate with me and prepare yourself mentally in advance.”
As the words reached his ears, Primo inexplicably had a bad premonition. “What does that mean?”
Lin Xi’s eyes curved into a smile, but in this inhuman form, even a seemingly pleasant expression exuded a thick, dangerous aura. “In the next few days, I might need to borrow a person. At that time, I hope the General Bureau will not interfere.”
Two hours later.
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the empty corridors of the new isolation zone. Two figures, one in front of the other, were walking towards the innermost room.
“Executor, you can’t do this…”
This was already the umpteenth time Gu Beiqiu had tried to stop him, but what responded to him was still Lin Xi’s earnest and heartfelt comfort. “Little Gu, even the General Bureau is no longer interfering in this matter. You don’t need to make some useless struggles either.”
Gu Beiqiu closed his eyes in some despair.
Yes, how could he not know it was a useless struggle? He could never stop the Executor from doing what he had decided, but this time it was really…
Gu Beiqiu took a deep breath. “…This is imprisonment.”
“‘Imprisonment’?” Lin Xi savored the word with interest. “A very apt description.”
As they spoke, they had already reached the deepest part of the corridor. Lin Xi stopped, a playful smile in his vertical pupils. “Then, do you want to bring me, this criminal who carried out the imprisonment, to justice?”
Gu Beiqiu was momentarily stunned.
Lin Xi let out a light laugh. “If you’re not planning to do that, then step aside. I’m very busy.”
After speaking, without replying to Gu Beiqiu again, he directly pushed the door open and walked in.
Click—!
The room door closed again. In the dim space, a thin figure came into Lin Xi’s view.
Lin Xi lazily raised his eyelids. “Sorry, Professor Shen. I’ve kept you waiting.”
These words were very much like a greeting between acquaintances meeting on a normal day. Anyone just hearing it would never think—he had imprisoned Shen Nanyang.
There was only a single chair in the center of the entire room. The man sitting on it was wearing a white research coat, handcuffed to the chair by his wrists.
This slightly disheveled appearance was completely unlike Professor Shen’s usual meticulous look.
From the moment Lin Xi entered, Shen Nanyang looked up at him silently.
He had clearly heard the conversation between the two outside the door. Hearing his words, he just replied slowly, “I thought you would make a calmer choice.”
“I also wanted to be calm, but unfortunately, reality doesn’t allow it.” Lin Xi smiled. There were no chairs around, so he just sat cross-legged in front of Shen Nanyang, one hand propping up his chin, looking with interest at the messy hair of the person before him, and said sincerely, “Speaking of which, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you look so disheveled.”
For him to say such words, it could be said that he had no self-awareness that he himself had made the person look like this.
Lin Xi’s fingertips tapped lightly on the floor, once, then again.
Although he used an extremely friendly tone of inquiry, the words he spoke allowed no room for doubt. “Our friendly transaction this time, I think you should also be happy to accept.”
A very light laugh was particularly clear in the silent environment.
“After all, our goals are the same. The same—for the bright and beautiful future of humanity.”
