Extra Chapter: Amnesia

“Hello, are you the family of the patient, Shen Bianye…?”

When the call from the hospital came, Xie Yuanxing was just about to head to a group meeting. His advisor was very strict and didn’t allow anyone to be late, but as he hung up and rushed to the hospital, he even forgot to ask his advisor for leave.

In the hospital’s VIP room, Shen Bianye was leaning against the bed.

With his broad shoulders and long legs, he was a natural clothes horse. The white and blue striped patient gown, when worn by him, was filled out nicely. He didn’t look frail; instead, he looked like he was shooting for some kind of alternative magazine cover.

Besides Shen Bianye, Zhou Chao and Shen Zheng were also there.

When the person on the bed saw Xie Yuanxing enter, his expression was a little strange. He said, “I didn’t know you would be so kind as to come and see me.”

As soon as Shen Bianye spoke, Shen Zheng glanced between the two of them. “Did you two have a fight?”

Xie Yuanxing, who was walking in, paused, looking somewhat stunned. He frowned at Shen Bianye, not answering Shen Zheng’s question.

Shen Bianye sneered, “Who would argue with someone they look down on?”

He lifted his chin slightly, his eyes filled with a bit of contempt. “Right, my dear junior, Xie?”

Zhou Chao, who had arrived earliest, silently stood up, not forgetting to hand an apple to Shen Bianye, trying to shut him up.

He then said, “Here’s the thing, the doctor said he hit his head in a car accident.”

Xie Yuanxing calmly asked, “And?”

“Is it serious? What did the doctor say? Why don’t I see any injuries on him?”

Zhou Chao shrugged. “It’s not serious. There’s just a bit of a blood clot in his brain pressing on the hippocampus. He probably has amnesia. He currently thinks it’s just after the start of his sophomore year.”

“The doctor said once the clot dissipates, he should recover.”

Xie Yuanxing’s tense body slowly relaxed. It was good that it wasn’t serious. Amnesia wasn’t a big deal.

He looked at Shen Bianye. “Did Zhou Chao tell you about us?”

Shen Bianye tossed the apple from his left hand to his right, and back again, with a somewhat careless air. “About what?”

Xie Yuanxing said calmly, “We’re married.”

Thud. The apple in Shen Bianye’s hand fell, rolling along the edge of the bed and onto the floor.

His hand, frozen in mid-air, wore a black ring that glinted with a cold light.

The next second, he burst out, “Impossible.”

“How could I possibly marry you?” Shen Bianye looked at Xie Yuanxing, as if remembering something, and belatedly added, “Marry a Beta?!”

Zhou Chao said, “Don’t get excited. It’s true.”

Shen Zheng added, “You are indeed married.”

Shen Bianye’s expression changed again and again. Even with three people standing in front of him telling him this, two of whom would never lie to him about such a thing, he was still shocked. “Impossible!”

Shen Zheng glanced at Xie Yuanxing, then at Shen Bianye, and very opportunely stood up. “Since you’re okay, I’ll be leaving.”

He silently lit a candle for his son.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to get involved, but when it came to matters concerning Xie Yuanxing, Shen Bianye had never liked others meddling. Every time he interfered, nothing good came of it.

Since Shen Bianye didn’t have any major problems, it was better for him to leave early.

He looked at Zhou Chao, who understood immediately. “I’ll be leaving too.”

“By the way, the doctor said you can be discharged today.”

In the large hospital room, only Shen Bianye and Xie Yuanxing were left.

Xie Yuanxing sat down by the bed. The phone in his pocket was buzzing. He took it out and saw that his senior sister was frantically messaging him, asking where he was.

Shen Bianye watched him sit down and start playing on his phone, engrossed in a chat with someone whose avatar looked vaguely like a cartoon character, showing no intention of speaking to him. He immediately sneered.

“What are you doing?”

“You say we’re married, and this is how you treat me?”

“I’m in the hospital, and you’re flirting with someone else right in front of me?”

Xie Yuanxing switched chat windows to ask his advisor for leave, then looked up at Shen Bianye. “I have a group meeting today. My senior sister was asking why I wasn’t there.”

“I explained the situation and asked my advisor for leave.”

“Still flirting?”

Because Shen Bianye’s amnesia had made him forget everything about them, Xie Yuanxing’s expression wasn’t very good.

His face was cold, and the black tear mole on his pale skin gave him a dark, glamorous, decadent look.

Shen Bianye inexplicably swallowed, but his mouth latched onto Xie Yuanxing’s words. “Advisor?”

“You’re still a student?”

“You mean we got married while we were still in university?”

Xie Yuanxing replied, “We got married after I was accepted into graduate school.”

His personality wasn’t suited for socializing. With no pressure, Xie Yuanxing, on Shen Bianye’s advice, had applied for graduate school and continued to stay in academia.

He was planning to become a university professor in the future.

He looked at Shen Bianye. Zhou Chao said his memory was at his sophomore year; he needed to know when in his sophomore year.

Xie Yuanxing pursed his lips. “How long has it been since school started?”

Shen Bianye thought for a moment. “Three days, I guess.”

He said, and as if remembering something, “You can smell my pheromones. Did you use this to persuade Shen Zheng to force me to marry you?”

“With your scheming nature, that wouldn’t be surprising.”

Xie Yuanxing suddenly smiled. His thick, curly eyelashes fluttered, and his whole person transformed from decadent to vibrant.

Three days. Once he heard this timeframe, Xie Yuanxing’s slightly anxious heart slowly settled down, and he had the mind to think about other things.

To be honest, he hadn’t seen this version of Shen Bianye in a long time.

He kind of missed it.

His lips parted slightly, and he uttered one word, “Idiot.”

Hearing this, Shen Bianye first froze, as if he hadn’t heard clearly.

What?

What did Xie Yuanxing just say?

Idiot?

After it registered, Shen Bianye suddenly became furious. The expression on his face was very strange. It wasn’t quite anger, but he wasn’t not angry either. It was more like a slight annoyance.

Then he spoke in a strange tone, the end of his sentence rising slightly. “You’re scolding me?”

“Don’t think you can get cocky just because you married me.”

This isn’t right, this isn’t right, this isn’t right!

Who could possibly be threatened by this tone of voice?

This isn’t the tone I wanted to use!

Why did it change the moment I opened my mouth?

Damn, it’s like I’ve been possessed.

What angered Shen Bianye the most was that he had practically been insulted to his face, yet he wasn’t angry.

Not a single trace of anger rose from his heart.

In fact, the annoyance he managed to muster on his face was directed entirely at himself.

He was angry at himself for not being angry. Otherwise, if Xie Yuanxing scolded him and he just smiled, what would Xie Yuanxing think of him?!

Anyone would think he was actively asking to be scolded.

Xie Yuanxing ignored him and stood up. “Get yourself packed. I’m going to handle the discharge procedures.”

The hospital room fell completely silent. Shen Bianye frowned as he got out of bed and changed his clothes. In his memory, his relationship with Xie Yuanxing was still somewhat hostile.

Now, he was being told they were married.

He hadn’t even figured out the situation, and Xie Yuanxing had walked out on him, ignoring his words just like he had two days ago.

And he did it after calling him an idiot.

Who does Xie Yuanxing think he is?

Shen Bianye sat in the hospital room, fuming, waiting for Xie Yuanxing to return from handling the discharge papers. His gaze fell on the apple still lying forlornly on the floor.

Waiting was just waiting. He walked over, picked it up, washed it, and started peeling it with a knife.

When Xie Yuanxing returned, Shen Bianye had just finished peeling the whole apple. He cut off a small piece, removed the core, and subconsciously held it to Xie Yuanxing’s mouth.

Xie Yuanxing opened his mouth and ate it, but Shen Bianye’s hand froze in place.

He was supposed to be waiting for Xie Yuanxing’s return, simmering with anger.

Where was his anger?

The apple was crisp and sweet, but Shen Bianye couldn’t taste it. Still, at least he wasn’t idiotic enough to give the whole apple to Xie Yuanxing.

It was barely acceptable. He was just giving Xie Yuanxing a small piece to tease him. That was all.

Xie Yuanxing, chewing on the apple, blinked his eyes, his gaze towards Shen Bianye filled with inquiry.

He didn’t dislike apples, but he wasn’t particularly fond of them either. He was only ever willing to eat a small piece; any more and he found it hard to swallow.

So, Shen Bianye had developed the habit of giving him a piece whenever he peeled an apple.

He doesn’t remember, but he still has the subconscious habit?

Xie Yuanxing couldn’t figure it out, but the heavy feeling he had when he first arrived had completely vanished. He beckoned to Shen Bianye. “Let’s go. Home.”

Shen Bianye’s face instantly showed shock.

Home?

Which home?

Whose home?

Like a lost soul, he followed Xie Yuanxing to a place that was completely unfamiliar to him. He didn’t recognize anything in front of him, but Xie Yuanxing said this was their home in City A.

The red doll ornament with its eyes closed on the table was an ugly eyesore. The Squidward-shaped tray in front of the sofa stared with dead fish eyes. It was quite unique.

There were two game controllers on the coffee table. The first room upon entering was a converted gaming room.

He could see two completely different yet cleverly integrated styles in this house.

Most importantly…

Shen Bianye’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He spoke in a strange tone, “It looks like there’s only one room with a bed here.”

Xie Yuanxing nodded, the corners of his lips curling up slightly. “That’s right.”

“I know you have amnesia and aren’t used to it, so you can sleep on the sofa tonight.”

Shen Bianye was speechless.

He said calmly, as if somewhat reluctantly, “Since you say we’re married, I can reluctantly try to live how you used to.”

“If I can’t adapt, we’ll get a divorce.”

Xie Yuanxing shook his head, considerate and understanding. “It’s okay. You don’t have to force yourself on the first day.”

“You should focus on recovering first.”

He changed the subject. “Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?”

Shen Bianye had no appetite for anything right now, but if he kept harping on the topic, it would seem like he was desperate to sleep with Xie Yuanxing.

He just wanted to test whether he was repulsed by the idea of lying in the same bed as Xie Yuanxing. If he was, he would highly doubt the truth of their marriage.

Shen Bianye didn’t ask to see a marriage certificate. A certificate could exist in a sham marriage—a partnership, for benefits, an arrangement by Shen Zheng, anything was possible.

Dinner was cooked by Xie Yuanxing. Mindful of Shen Bianye’s injury, he made it very light.

After dinner, he didn’t let the injured patient wash the dishes. He washed them himself, found a blanket for Shen Bianye, and then went to take a shower and go to bed.

Shen Bianye sat on the sofa, feeling more and more that something was wrong.

If they were really married, why was Xie Yuanxing being so secretive and not letting him sleep with him?

He had to test it.

Shen Bianye watched the hands of the clock tick by. As the night deepened, he got up and walked towards the bedroom.

The thin pajamas were lifted, and Shen Bianye’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

Xie Yuanxing, fresh from a shower, smelled very fragrant, like a sweet milk pudding. And now, this pudding was covered in a mix of purple and blue kiss marks. The marks on his waist faintly resembled fingerprints left from being gripped.

As if possessed, Shen Bianye reached out and placed his hand over them. The moment his hand fit perfectly, he was suddenly overcome with excitement.

“Have you touched enough?”

“Let go.”

Xie Yuanxing had opened his eyes at some point. His gaze was incomparably clear as he looked at Shen Bianye.

Shen Bianye looked up at him, his eyes dark and murky. “Did I leave all these?”

“When?”

Xie Yuanxing pursed his lips. “Yesterday.”

Shen Bianye subconsciously swallowed. His eyebrow arched slightly, carrying a hint of roguish charm, his tone lofty. “Was the old me good to you?”

The expression on Xie Yuanxing’s face turned cold, the black tear mole swaying before Shen Bianye’s eyes.

Shen Bianye stared at him, stunned. The next second, a slight stinging sensation spread across his face, accompanied by a soft smack.

For a moment, Shen Bianye’s eyes flashed with ferocity. He stared silently at Xie Yuanxing, his tongue pushing against the inside of his slapped cheek, his voice low. “You dare to slap me?”

Xie Yuanxing’s slap wasn’t heavy, but his tone was even more forceful. “I hate your tone.”

The pre-amnesia Shen Bianye would sometimes talk dirty in bed, but never with such a superior tone.

“Don’t make me hate you again.”

Shen Bianye’s mouth moved faster than his brain. He blurted out subconsciously, “Baby, don’t hate me.”

The post-reaction Shen Bianye: …

This really isn’t right. That’s not what I wanted to say.
