FIMA Ch65: Science

Gu Siyuan gave them a quiet glance. He asked the Special Police for three or four drone detectors, then took a handful of talismans from Xie Xuanxing. They were all the most common Yin-Warding Talismans. He stuck one on each flying detector, which would ensure they wouldn’t be damaged by the Yin energy later.

Then he took the remote control, started them up, and piloted them toward the mountain cave ghost domain from earlier.

He Pan watched his actions and said softly: “The existence of a ghost domain is extremely special, as if it’s another parallel world. We’ve tested it many times before; detectors simply cannot enter. Even if they are carried inside by us cultivators, they won’t transmit any footage and just stop working completely.”

“We’ll talk about that later.” Gu Siyuan ignored him, maneuvering the flying detectors to hover in formation at the cave entrance. Then he turned to Xie Xuanxing and the curly-haired guy: “Are there any problems with what I said just now? If not, let’s start now.”

Xie Xuanxing nodded, looking eager to try: “Can do.”

The curly-haired guy looked at his sledgehammer with heartache, then also nodded. Next, he channeled his spiritual energy, directing the large iron hammer in his hand to fly toward the cave entrance.

Observant people could see that several rows of assembled batteries had been forcefully strapped onto the iron hammer.

Xie Xuanxing pinched five talismans between his fingertips and tossed them into the air. Just before they fell, his fair fingers rapidly changed hand seals, a faint spiritual light appearing, as he softly chanted a few incantations.

Consequently, the talismans instantly moved against the wind, shooting straight upward. They lined up in a row at the cave entrance and then detonated simultaneously.

For a brief moment, everyone seemed to see the space at the cave entrance tremble slightly.

Xie Yuchen glanced at Xie Xuanxing. Truly willing to part with his wealth.
These were not ordinary Blazing Sun Talismans, but Three Yang Golden Light Talismans. Regardless of the cinnabar materials or the difficulty of crafting them, they were extremely rare. These five talismans were probably more than half of Xie Xuanxing’s savings.

At this moment, another crackle of explosion sounded from above.

Xie Yuchen hastily looked up, only to see several unknown objects drop from the curly-haired guy’s hammer artifact and explode in unison. In the middle of the black sinister wind, several blinding silver-white flashes of lightning instantly crackled.

And these few flashes of white light, as if possessing a spirit of their own, rapidly surged forward along the direction where the Three Yang Golden Light Talismans had exploded, weaving into a beautiful silver electrical net.

Under the shroud of the electrical net, it was as if heavenly thunder had struck down directly, revealing a bizarre black space.

Right at this moment, Gu Siyuan pressed a button in his hand, and that batch of flying detectors instantly passed through the gaps in the electrical net, entering the ghost domain and disappearing from sight.

Everything ended.

The sledgehammer artifact dropped down sluggishly, and the curly-haired guy caught it, holding it with a pained heart.

Gu Siyuan glanced at him and said faintly: “Thanks for the hard work.”

Xie Xuanxing grumbled indignantly: “It just got shocked a bit, it’s not like it malfunctioned.”
I worked much harder, why didn’t he comfort me?

The curly-haired guy was indignant: “That was high-voltage electricity! Who knows if there’s major damage! I don’t care, Gu Second, you have to get my idol to give me an autograph later!”

Gu Siyuan nodded.

This commotion was truly quite large, just like staging a sci-fi blockbuster.

Even the aristocratic cultivators, who considered themselves accustomed to great storms and waves, couldn’t help but look toward Gu Siyuan and began discussing animatedly.

“To actually make the ghost domain visible for a moment… he does have a bit of skill.”
“Hmph, just a bit of petty cleverness.”
“Hmph, what use is making it visible? Won’t those things still fail to work once inside? It’s not like Special Control Bureau cultivators haven’t carried detectors in before; they still couldn’t record or transmit anything.”

As they spoke, these people still couldn’t help but look at the large screens set up to the side.

Sure enough, apart from static snow and crackling, there was nothing on the screens. Instantly, they felt even more reassured.

“Hehe, his predecessors have tried how many times, gaining nothing every time. Does he really think these petty tricks are useful?”
“Our spiritual energy cultivation is the Great Dao. How could these petty tricks qualify to comprehend the vastness of the Great Dao?”
“Young people are all like this. They won’t turn back until they hit a brick wall. Haha, it’s good for them to learn a lesson. Otherwise, the Special Control Bureau wouldn’t need to look for us old bones every time there’s a major case…”

The person who said this last sentence appeared to be comforting and encouraging, but the malicious mockery within was self-evident.

Xie Xuanxing’s gaze darkened, misting with a trace of blackish purple. On that bright, moon-like face, it looked both pure and alluring.

Right at this moment, the top of his head felt warm as a large hand pressed down on it.

Xie Xuanxing widened his eyes, slightly tilted his head up to look, and met Gu Siyuan’s stern face at a glance. He blinked his large eyes: “En…”

Gu Siyuan was slightly startled for a moment.

Looking down from this angle, it made Xie Xuanxing’s red lips, white teeth, and outstanding appearance stand out even more. Coupled with those wide, round eyes, he looked as adorable as a feline.

There was also an indescribable familiarity.

Tsk…

He slightly lowered his eyes, his fingers pressing on Xie Xuanxing’s head tapping gently: “Don’t bicker with idiots. I don’t want my lackey to become an idiot too.”

Xie Xuanxing’s eyes lit up brightly, and he drew out his voice in reply, “Oh…”
Shallow dimples appeared at the corners of his smiling mouth.

Cute.

Why… is it getting even stranger?

Gu Siyuan hurriedly withdrew his fingers, clenched them, then strode his long legs to sit back in front of the supercomputer.

Hmph, why does this person always run away so fast?

Xie Xuanxing mumbled with a pout, raised his hand to touch his own head, and followed him over.

The conversation between the two had taken only a few seconds.

This time, the speed of Gu Siyuan’s fingertips was even faster.
The data on the computer screen constantly changed and debugged.

Seeing this, that group of aristocratic family members gave a cold snort: “Hehe, still haven’t given up?”
“Saying he’s going in, yet stalling for time here?”
“If you’re cowardly, just admit you’re cowardly. Why try to act like a hero just now?”

Gu Siyuan, however, acted as if he didn’t hear them. His expression hadn’t changed a bit from beginning to end.

In the very next moment, on his usually stern face, the corners of his mouth suddenly curled into a faint arc.

“Crackle…” A soft sound, yet extremely distinct to the ear.

The talking stopped.

Everyone turned their heads in unison. Then they watched as the static snow on the several screens beside them flashed slightly, slowly turned blue, then black, and subsequently each displayed a scene of howling sinister winds.

Although the angles were different, it was clearly the same place.

The smooth mountain walls on the screen, the flying sand and rocks, the precarious mini-train at the cave entrance, and the passengers still struggling inside the vehicle.
Of course, more importantly, that pitch-black silhouette in the middle of the sinister wind.

“Ghost King! It’s definitely the Ghost King…” someone immediately yelled loudly.
“This… this is footage from inside the ghost domain! It actually transmitted out!”

At this moment, all shocked and uneasy gazes were instantly directed at Gu Siyuan.

However, his face showed no color, maintaining his consistent, unparalleled coldness.
There was no difference from when he was being mocked earlier.

Xie Xuanxing felt himself becoming even more…
Even more what? What was he just about to say? Xie Xuanxing’s expression turned strange.

He Pan grabbed Gu Siyuan in extreme excitement, asking urgently: “This, this… how did you do this?!”

“The Law of Conservation of Energy.” Gu Siyuan slapped his hand away and said faintly: “What do you think is the difference between a cultivator’s spiritual energy and ordinary electrical, thermal, or light energy? And what do you think is the difference between a ghost cultivator’s Yin energy and a living cultivator’s spiritual energy?”

“…” He Pan.
What are you talking about? Why are you dragging perfectly good metaphysics into physics?

Gu Siyuan continued: “Cultivators use various cultivation methods to absorb spiritual energy, cultivating and meditating. This process is invisible to ordinary people, and machines cannot detect it. But when cultivators cast spells, the effects are visible because they convert spiritual energy into visible energy like fire, water, wind, etc. Those with higher cultivation and abundant spiritual energy output greater destructive energy. This shows that metaphysics, in essence, is merely the mutual conversion of ordinary energies.”

“It’s just that it hasn’t been detected by scientific methods and current tools yet. And since spiritual energy can restrain Yin energy, then Yin energy must also be an alternative form of energy. Therefore, a ghost domain supported by Yin energy particles must naturally be a field similar to an electric or magnetic field…”

He Pan’s head was buzzing. He had received compulsory education when he was little, but after a passing Maoshan Sect master discovered his cultivation aptitude, he was impatiently sent into the mountains by his parents to cultivate.

Studying is useless; cultivating immortality is the way to wealth!

He hurriedly raised his hand to interrupt: “So what? What does this have to do with this detector working?”

Gu Siyuan said: “The so-called ‘instruments unable to detect ghost domains’ operates on the same principle as many modern stealth aircraft and stealth torpedoes. Airplanes can be ‘invisible’ simply because their manufacturing materials happen to be able to absorb or reflect the wavelengths emitted by radar detectors. This ghost domain operates on a roughly similar principle; it can almost entirely absorb the wavelengths of most instruments, even the wavelengths visible to the human eye.”

“However, it’s not because of materials, but because the particle wavelengths, activity speed, and amplitude within the ghost domain field are extremely special. Furthermore, they constantly change according to the ghost’s own strength and the geographical environment. Therefore, current scientific instruments cannot repeatedly confirm the activity range of the magnetic field particles. But just now, using the Yin energy inside, I tested it multiple times and determined an approximate range…”

At this moment, everyone present just felt their heads buzzing.

Who am I? What is he talking about?
Aren’t we cultivating immortality? Why is he talking about all this messy stuff?

He Pan only had one phrase to say. With a miserable face, he said: “Speak human.”

Gu Siyuan grew even more dissatisfied, feeling he had explained for nothing. “If you’re an idiot, why ask so much? Just believe in science, that’s enough.”

“…” He Pan.

Xie Xuanxing held back his smile.
Gu Siyuan’s ability to infuriate people was truly outstanding.

Right at this moment, one of the flying detectors slowly approached the Ghost King.

At almost the same instant, the Ghost King’s appearance was exposed on the screen, startling everyone who saw it.

The Ghost King looked extremely terrifying. It actually had two heads growing on its neck, and three arms. Although it only had two legs, one of the lower legs had two feet. The entire body was crooked and twisted, looking indescribably awkward.

It was like spliced building blocks where extra materials had accidentally been added.

Chen Qi looked at the group and said: “This Ghost King seems somewhat off.”

“Generally speaking, humans are the spirit of all living things. The more profound the cultivation of a monster or spirit, the closer its appearance is to an ordinary person, to the point of having absolutely no difference, able to walk under the sunlight…”

“This ghost domain looks so chilling, yet the main body actually has quite a lot of flaws.”

Xie Xuanxing pulled the bronze cauldron out of his backpack. It was covered in talismans to prevent the Yin energy from leaking out and driving various messy ghosts and monsters crazy again.

The eyes of Chen Qi and the others lit up: “This is the Yin Cauldron that bred that Ghost King.”

Someone explained: “According to rumors, there is an evil path method where forty-nine ghosts born during Yin hours are thrown into this bronze Yin Cauldron. After several years, the most formidable one is refined, which is the Ghost King.”

“But seeing this Ghost King in such a state, it seems that when the tunnel was excavated and this cauldron was moved, the Ghost King hadn’t been truly completed. This caused it to be born prematurely, achieving only the body of a half-Ghost King.”

A member of an aristocratic family glanced at Gu Siyuan, unable to hide the disdain in his eyes: “No wonder the ghost domain revealed flaws so easily. Turns out it’s only a half-Ghost King.”
