FIMA Ch12: Won’t
He opened his eyes wide and looked back. The moment he saw the person’s face, he first felt a surge of joy, and then his entire body trembled, his face becoming several times uglier than just a moment ago.
He suddenly realized that what embarrassed him the most at this very moment wasn’t being degraded and evaluated behind his back like this.
It was that such an evaluation, low enough to be trampled in the dust, had been heard by someone else—especially being heard by Gu Siyuan.
Seeing his sudden huge reaction, Gu Siyuan froze for a second. Then, as if he understood something, he narrowed his eyes, a dark glint flashing through them.
Earlier, when the parent-teacher meeting was being held in class, he had returned to his dorm to write his program.
Then, estimating the time was about right, he prepared to come out for dinner. Who knew that halfway there, he would unexpectedly stumble upon what seemed to be a very interesting scene—that was his original thought.
But at this moment, all the amusement and mockery in his heart dissipated, leaving only an unspeakable sense of irritability and anger.
He raised his hand and gently pressed down on Xie Qingxiao’s shoulder.
Xie Qingxiao didn’t move. He blinked and squeezed out a dry smile at him.
From the corner of his eye, Gu Siyuan swept a glance at the mother and son ahead, his lips moving soundlessly: “I’ll show you something fun.”
Xie Qingxiao widened his eyes slightly. He had a bad feeling about this, but for some reason, he felt a great deal of anticipation in his heart and didn’t want to stop him…
The next moment, “Tsk… cough, cough…”
A very light, yet highly conspicuous coughing laugh rang out in this secluded spot.
About a dozen meters away, Mother Shen and Shen Ting’s expressions changed in unison. They both turned their heads to look toward the source of the sound.
Consequently, their faces became even uglier.
“Gu Siyuan, Xie Qingxiao…” Shen Ting looked at the two figures that appeared along with the laughter, asking in a hoarse voice, “When did you guys get here?”
Gu Siyuan stood tall and straight, one hand in his pocket, smiling against the setting sun: “What do you think?”
Shen Ting’s face grew increasingly gloomy.
Gu Siyuan curled his lips: “Anyway, what should have been heard and what shouldn’t have been heard, we heard it all.”
Mother Shen, given her age and shrewdness, first patted Shen Ting lightly on the shoulder, then looked at Gu Siyuan and Xie Qingxiao, saying softly, “Judging by how Shen Ting addresses you, it seems you two are his classmates?”
Gu Siyuan sneered, “Why ask a question when you already know the answer?”
Mother Shen frowned, her tone equally indifferent to the extreme. “I truly didn’t know that two high school seniors would actually have the habit of hiding and eavesdropping on others’ conversations. Later, I really must ask your teachers how they taught you…”
Mother Shen boasted of her noble background and had lived a dignified life. Being caught red-handed by the subject of her behind-the-back gossiping truly made her both angry and embarrassed.
Otherwise, given the gentle personality she usually displayed, she absolutely wouldn’t have spoken so harshly and severely to two juniors.
Xie Qingxiao narrowed his long, gorgeous eyes, his voice laced with ice and snow: “Could it be any more uneducated than gossiping about people behind their backs?”
Gu Siyuan was standing up for him; he naturally couldn’t just hide behind him.
Being directly accused to her face by the person involved, Mother Shen was momentarily speechless. She had never seen someone so undignified and blunt.
“Xie Qingxiao, are you crazy!”
Seeing his mother insulted, Shen Ting was furious. The emotionally charged Alpha pheromones burst forth uncontrollably.
No matter how strong Xie Qingxiao’s personality was, biologically he was an Omega. He was instantly suppressed to the point of being somewhat unable to speak.
Gu Siyuan grabbed him and pulled him behind his back, his own top-tier Alpha pheromones simultaneously surging forward.
His face was full of cold mockery: “As expected, this is the fine upbringing of you two. Bullying an Omega? Heh, truly an exceptionally fine upbringing.”
Although it was an unwritten rule, because Alphas naturally suppressed Omegas with their pheromones and auras, in order to protect the precious and extremely rare Omegas, any Alpha who attacked an Omega would be viewed as the lowest form of existence.
Shen Ting stared at the Alpha opposite him, whose presence faintly threatened to overpower his own. He fell silent for a moment and retracted his pheromones.
Then, he suddenly asked, “I’m very curious, since when did you two get so close? Why would the great Academic God, Gu Siyuan, who has always been aloof and unsociable, care so much about my boyfriend?”
Xie Qingxiao froze at first, then couldn’t help but purse his lips and smile faintly.
Gu Siyuan lazily cast a sidelong glance at Shen Ting.
This gaze wasn’t actually sharp; it was just a fleeting, superficial glance. But Shen Ting inexplicably felt as if he was being looked down upon into the dust, feeling that an incredibly heavy sense of mocking contempt was hidden within that gaze.
However, no matter what Shen Ting was thinking, Gu Siyuan had no interest in exploring it.
He originally thought this was just a clueless, edgy teenager who didn’t know his limits. He didn’t expect him to be an inferior, massive idiot with a deeply hidden ugly nature.
Too lazy to pay any more attention to them, Gu Siyuan maintained his posture from when he arrived—one hand in his pocket—and slowly sauntered back toward the cafeteria.
Xie Qingxiao watched Gu Siyuan leave.
Thinking back to Shen Ting’s question just now, he couldn’t help but want to laugh again.
From the time they confirmed their relationship until now, it had been almost exactly three months. During this period, Shen Ting had never actively sought him out, never actively cared about him, never asked him a single question, let alone get jealous over him or anything like that.
But now, at such an ugly moment, he actually asked such a thing. It was truly…
This not only showed that Shen Ting actually understood everything but had been playing dumb all along, it also showed that the current Shen Ting was absolutely not the person he remembered from his childhood.
Only when someone is exasperated and speaking without thinking do their despicable and dark inner thoughts reveal themselves.
Xie Qingxiao took a few steps forward to Madam Shen and handed over the expensive leather bag, saying nonchalantly, “I picked this up from the classroom just now. It should be yours, correct?”
Madam Shen’s face became even more embarrassed, but she forced down her discomfort and said, “Thank you.”
Xie Qingxiao continued, “Aren’t you going to check it? Just in case anything is missing.”
“N… no need,” Madam Shen said rapidly, grabbing the bag and placing it behind her back.
Shen Ting looked at him and warned coldly, “Xie Qingxiao, know when to stop.”
Hearing this, Xie Qingxiao raised his eyes and gave Shen Ting a steady look.
Shen Ting hadn’t yet realized the meaning behind this look.
“Heh…” Suddenly, Xie Qingxiao let out a light laugh. This laughter carried no trace of worldly taint; it was as elegant, pleasant, and carefree as a wind chime in spring.
Shen Ting narrowed his eyes. It was actually the first time he truly realized that this half-hearted temporary boyfriend of his was indeed quite a beauty.
“Goodbye, Shen Ting,” Xie Qingxiao said solemnly, looking at his face and his eyes.
After saying that, he didn’t wait for a reaction from the Shen mother and son. He turned around and walked step by step toward the classroom, his steps becoming increasingly brisk, as if all his obsessions and shackles had been completely laid down.
By the end, Xie Qingxiao was almost skipping and jumping.
However, this joyful mood truly couldn’t last long.
He had just reached the back door of the classroom when he was caught red-handed by Xie Chengfeng, who had been waiting there for a long time.
Xie Chengfeng asked urgently, “How was it? Did you deliver the bag to Madam Shen? Were you a bit more lively and sensible? Does Madam Shen have a good impression of you?”
Xie Qingxiao recalled the speechless expressions of those two and said very calmly, “It should be alright, I guess.”
Xie Chengfeng immediately nodded in satisfaction. “That’s good. Just as I said, my son is good-looking and studies well. Who wouldn’t like him upon seeing him?”
Xie Qingxiao wanted to laugh again. Today is such a good day. Everyone’s way of speaking has suddenly become so interesting…
Thinking about how he had grown up, even when he ranked first in his exams before the classes were divided, Xie Chengfeng had never praised him like this.
Now, just because he delivered a bag to someone and was in a romance with Shen Ting that had already broken up, he instantly became the best son in the world.
Xie Chengfeng continued talking to himself. Not knowing what he remembered, he asked again, “Hey, let me ask you. When I was sitting in your seat for the meeting just now, why was there no one next to me? Is there no one left in your desk-mate’s family…”
Hearing this, Xie Qingxiao’s face sank, and he frowned.
Alphas were truly the most gossipy people in the world.
He said loudly, “Dad, watch what you say. My desk-mate is Gu Siyuan. When you entered the school gate, you should have seen his name. He doesn’t need to hold a parent-teacher meeting.”
Xie Chengfeng’s eyes brightened slightly; he did have an impression of this name: “The one who won first prize in that competition and was admitted early to Q University?”
“Yes.” Xie Qingxiao smiled faintly and nodded. His face unconsciously showed a bit of pride—a pride that came inexplicably yet was hard to ignore.
“Not bad, this desk-mate of yours isn’t bad.”
Xie Chengfeng nodded in rare praise, his face even taking on a slightly reminiscent look… He himself was a graduate of a top domestic university and had once been publicly commended as a representative in high school.
But soon, this emotion completely faded away.
What does temporary glory in school count for? Only when you enter society will you discover that some people’s starting point is likely an endpoint you could never reach in your entire life…
What a despairing distance?
The gap between an ordinary high school student who lost both parents and had no one to rely on, and the dignified Young Master of the Shen family, was just about like that.
Xie Chengfeng looked at Xie Qingxiao again and began to instruct him with rare patience: “You have to get along well with Young Master Shen. Be more sensible, be more considerate, don’t make him angry. Let his feelings for you grow deeper and deeper. If you can marry into the Shen family in the future…”
Hearing this, Xie Qingxiao glanced at Xie Chengfeng and said flatly, “That won’t happen.”
