FI CH80: Registration Day
A group of people stood before him, fuming.
Cheng Zhuo was at the forefront, eyes spitting fire, and charged straight for Lin Su with his arms ready—
Just as he was about to reach him, he suddenly tripped.
Thump! It was so unexpected that the people following closely behind him also stumbled forward. Two of them fell flat on their faces, hitting the ground with a dull thud.
The people beside them froze in a daze.
There were two seconds of silence on the court.
Lin Su raised a hand. “You may rise.”
“…….” The crowd.
Cheng Zhuo’s fall was a mess, and he felt utterly humiliated. He cursed under his breath! He scrambled up, incensed, and strode towards Lin Su, determined to regain his face.
After just two steps, there was another “thump”!
Cheng Zhuo stumbled and fell head over heels again.
Lin Su stood his ground, shaking his head. “I said toad as a metaphor, you don’t have to actually hop and croak with every step.”
The snow-white creature floated back happily. [Boxboxboxbox…]
Cheng Zhuo’s face was burning. The person next to him pulled him up and asked in a low voice, “…What happened to you?”
“Damn… how would I know? This is weird.”
They were in the metaphysics field, after all. The words had barely left his mouth when they all looked over. Cheng Zhuo was wary and suspicious, questioning, “Did you put some kind of hex on me!?”
Lin Su glanced sideways. “Like throwing trash into a trash can?”
“…”
The group in front of him was seething with anger, but wary of Cheng Zhuo’s “precedent,” they stopped in their tracks, choked with frustration. They just stared at Lin Su, brewing their anger internally.
The atmosphere on the court was explosive.
Just then, the forgotten boy with round glasses suddenly rushed over, stood in front of Lin Su, and held up his phone, shouting:
“Don’t do anything rash, I’ve already notified the security team!”
The faces of Cheng Zhuo’s group turned ugly. “You dare to call security?”
The boy with glasses stuck his neck out. “You were just trying to take the court before, but now it’s escalated to a group assault. Of course I’m going to call security!”
They glared at him for several seconds.
Then Cheng Zhuo gritted his teeth. “Fine, you’ve got guts.” He then turned his head. “Let’s go!”
The boy with glasses had just breathed a sigh of relief.
Lin Su suddenly spoke again. “You didn’t lose face to me today, so you’re not going to take it out on him later, are you?” He feigned surprise. “You wouldn’t, would you? You wouldn’t be that gutless, right?”
The group: “…….”
“Damn…” Cheng Zhuo stared at him, squeezing a few words through his teeth. “Of course… not. Since you’ve said so, I’ll settle the score with you from now on—”
The boy with glasses suddenly cried out, “Wait, no!”
A thin, pale hand pressed him down.
Cheng Zhuo sneered again, sizing him up. “But who knows if you can even get into our school? You’re not just going to spout all this nonsense and then disappear, are you?”
Lin Su smiled. “Don’t worry, I will enter this school.”
Cheng Zhuo looked at him for two seconds and also snorted a laugh. “Fine, what’s your name?”
“Lin Su.”
Lin Su looked at Cheng Zhuo and curled his lips. “Remember to come find me when school starts.”
Cheng Zhuo, as if thinking of something, gave him a dark look and smiled. “Good… you just wait.” He then signaled to the people beside him and limped away.
…
Once the group’s figures were far away.
The boy with glasses finally let out a breath of relief and looked at Lin Su. “Thank you, my name is Yu Zishan.”
Lin Su raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t actually call the security team, did you?”
“Ah, right.” Yu Zishan scratched his head. “I was afraid they’d find out if I made a call, so I lied and said I had already called security. Luckily, they didn’t notice.”
He then said with concern, “By the way, are you really applying to this school? Those guys just now are from prominent families. I’m afraid they’ll give you trouble…”
Lin Su glanced sideways. “Then why aren’t you afraid they’ll give you trouble?”
Yu Zishan said, “I can tell the teacher!”
Lin Su: ……
Damn, this kid is so pure and upright.
The snow-white creature said benevolently, [There should be many children like this in university.]
Yu Zishan explained again, “But you haven’t enrolled yet, right? What if they give you trouble with the enrollment process—” He thought for a moment. “When that happens, just tell me, and I’ll help you tell the teacher!”
Lin Su nodded. “…Okay, thank you for your kindness.”
Yu Zishan then exchanged contact information with him. After all that commotion, it was almost time for class to end. He didn’t play basketball anymore and waved goodbye.
Snow-white creature: [Where are we going to wander next?]
Lin Su said without thinking: The tuck shop.
…
In the hallway of the teaching building.
Cheng Zhuo’s trip had left him with scrapes and bruises. He hissed in a breath of cold air and cursed again.
The boy next to him looked at his face. “Are you really going to wait until he enrolls to settle the score?”
“Tch, how is that possible?” Cheng Zhuo laughed contemptuously. “Don’t forget what my uncle does—he’s one of the examiners for this year’s enrollment. That kid is stupid too, actually telling me his name. Is he waiting for a direct confrontation? I’ll make it so he can’t even get into the school.”
The people next to him burst out laughing.
“Damn, you’re the man!”
“I can’t wait to see the look on his face.”
Cheng Zhuo’s gloominess also vanished. “You guys just wait and see!”
Lin Su wandered around the school for a while.
Perhaps because the feng shui world had undergone a change 17 years ago, most of the teachers he saw at the school this time were new faces.
Around four o’clock, a message came from He Zhenling:
“Done paddling?”
“…”
[NaturallyWakingUpFromSleep]: You really are lonely. [Heart]
[Ling]: Yes, I’m lonely. Come back quickly. [Heart]
Lin Su was startled! It felt as if his whole body had been electrified.
The snow-white creature came over to look and said cheerfully, [Great, Xiao He has also learned to live as shamelessly as you.]
Lin Su pinched its little mouth and turned off his phone. “Going back.”
Back at the association, it was dinnertime.
The meal was, as usual, in the small dining room next to the president’s office on the top floor. One side of the dining room was a half-wall of floor-to-ceiling windows.
By the time they arrived, the sky outside was already a deep blue.
The lights above the dining table were bright, casting a faint reflection of the room’s scene on the floor-to-ceiling windows.
He Zhenling was waiting at his seat and looked at him. “You’re back?”
Lin Su washed his paws and sat down. “Yes, weren’t you getting impatient?”
The person in front of him let out a short laugh and picked up his chopsticks. “No activity all afternoon. It’s rare for you to go out and not… be lewd.”
“I changed my attribute.” To stirring up trouble.
“…” He Zhenling looked up. ?
Lin Su shook his head. “It’s nothing.” He met He Zhenling’s direct gaze, then gently lowered his eyes. “Alright, stop staring at me and drooling… it’s quite forward.”
“…Heh!” He Zhenling laughed in exasperation. “I’m swallowing my food.”
Lin Su was indulgent. “Perhaps.”
He Zhenling looked at him with a half-smile for a few seconds, then withdrew his gaze and didn’t ask any more questions.
…
After dinner, Lin Su curled up in his seat, sending messages.
He Zhenling brought him a glass of water, and his gaze swept over, just happening to catch a glimpse of the familiar fluffy white puppy avatar on the WeChat page. The glass clinked lightly.
“Bonding with your son again?”
Lin Su stopped typing and turned his head. “Registration day is the day after tomorrow. I’m asking Xiao Bai what materials I need to prepare. Just a celestial master license and three case ratings is too thin.”
There were a few rare seconds of silence from above.
He Zhenling said softly, “How many S-ratings do you think there are in the entire feng shui world right now?”
Lin Su inquired, “How many?”
“Since the new regulations were implemented, no more than two hands’ worth.” He Zhenling said, “Now look at how many you have.”
Lin Su had a realization. “I have a ‘V-sign’s worth’.”
He then asked, “So who got the remaining S-ratings?”
He Zhenling’s face was calm. “I have a V-sign’s worth, and my son has a V-sign’s worth. The others are negligible.”
“…” Lin Su was gratified. “Our family is awesome.”
He Zhenling’s lips moved, swallowing some words. He brought the topic back. “So, no need to ask. Just bring your celestial master license.”
The message hadn’t been sent yet.
Lin Su lowered his head to delete it. “Then I won’t bother Xiao Bai for now.”
The person in front of him hummed in agreement. After two seconds, he suddenly heard a laugh. “It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a rating.” The ring on his earlobe felt as if it had been faintly tugged.
“Who else is qualified to fail you?”
…
Lin Su’s fingertips trembled, and he almost dropped his phone. A tingling itch spread from the tiny piercing in his ear. He lowered his eyes, not looking at He Zhenling, and called out in his mind:
Damn it, he’s flirting with me.
The snow-white creature had missed the “interlocking rings” part of the plot and said perfunctorily, [Yeah, he was so forward he was drooling at you.]
“…….”
Lin Su had no one to share with and could only endure the heat in his ears. He flicked the silver ring back. “Well… of course.”
The breathing from above became chaotic for a moment.
Then a hand picked up the glass of cold water on the table. He Zhenling took a sip. “Mhm.”
On registration day, the sun was bright.
The Supervision Association’s car was too high-profile, so Lin Su didn’t have anyone drive him and took a taxi instead.
As soon as he arrived at the school gate, he saw a dense crowd of people.
They were all young faces, some wearing the emblems of prominent families, others non-family disciples carrying their own magical artifacts. Accompanying people could only stay outside the school, and the candidates entered alone.
Everyone was verifying their identity at the school gate one by one.
As Lin Su got closer, he realized they weren’t verifying “celestial master licenses,” but something similar to an “examinee pass.” When he got to the front of the line, he was wondering if he should take out his celestial master license when the security guard let out an “ah.”
He looked closely and saw it was the same security guard from the day before yesterday.
The guard waved him through directly. “Please come in.”
Curious and confused gazes were cast from all around. Lin Su ignored them, nodded, and walked in.
Inside, there were even more candidates.
Under the bright sunlight, heads bobbed up and down, casting clear, intersecting shadows on the ground.
From the water courtyard to the open space in front of the teaching building, two long rows of tables were set up with signs that read: [Registration]
Lin Su grabbed a random person. “Excuse me, what’s the procedure?”
“…”
The person turned their head and looked at him with an indescribable expression for two seconds, but still kindly explained, “First, go get a registration form, fill in your information and hand it back in. Then go to an empty classroom in the next building and wait. A group of people will be eliminated after the first round of information screening. The rest will stay in the capital for the next round of assessment.”
Lin Su filtered out the key point: Got it, fill out the form.
He said “thank you” and randomly found a long table to get a form.
At the table, he saw a male teacher in his thirties sitting behind it, wearing black-rimmed glasses, collecting and distributing registration forms in order. Lin Su took one and started filling it out on the side.
The information to be filled in was simpler than he had imagined.
He filled it out in a few strokes and went back to the table to hand it in.
“In order, students…” the registration teacher called out, taking the form with one hand. He glanced down, and his voice suddenly stopped. He saw what was written on it:
—Capital Celestial Master Academy Registration Form—
[Name]: Lin Su
[Special Skills]: All of them.
“…….”
The admissions teacher adjusted his glasses and looked up. “…Classmate, are you here to cause trouble?”
