DKIE CH88: The Winner Descends

The elves could only intercept the dangers in the sky.

After only a few seconds, countless cannonball fragments and magical attacks rained down on Luka like a dense storm.

Quill seemed completely indifferent to his partner’s plight, not sparing any attention as he continued to engage in a free-for-all with the Tree of Life’s roots using the skeletons on the periphery.

Luka  faced the attacks from all directions alone.

Even wearing the hundred-patch robe, it was astonishing that he could emerge unscathed from the magical cannon bombardment.

One of the priests’ faces changed slightly. “A Legendary Grand Magus.”

No, he should still be a little short of a Legendary Grand Magus, but this leap in strength was already beyond imagination.

The Tree of Life broke free from some of the skeletons, and a snake-like branch suddenly whipped towards Luka. The latter, focused on dealing with an ambushing demon prince, paid no mind to the deadly branch.

Having just witnessed the dark duo’s methods, the demon prince felt an inexplicable panic.

Luka naturally did not disappoint them.

Following the white and gray, a third color suddenly appeared in the air—dense points of light that outnumbered the piles of white bones.

They leaped joyfully in the sky, forming the hidden silhouette of a large tree.

Most of the Holy Court and demon armies had not yet reacted. They subconsciously paid more attention to Luka and Quill, thinking it was another one of their dirty tricks.

Only the Tree of Life was the first to sense something. When its branch was less than a meter from Luka, it was violently whipped away.

The silhouette of another tree became fully visible.

The sky became a palette, half white, half green.

Two giant trees collided and attacked in mid-air. The Wisdom Tree delivered a sweeping leg kick with its roots, the Tree of Life countered with a slap from its branches, and the entire scene was shocking.

The battlefield situation was full of surprises. Some Holy Court soldiers’ mouths nearly dropped open. “The trees… the trees are fighting.”

Trees of entirely different species were battling, and everyone belatedly realized what was happening.

The Wisdom Tree, rumored to be in its period of decline, had actually appeared on the battlefield.

They slapped and kicked each other, and with every collision, cracks appeared in space.

Everyone around dodged, but Luka moved against the flow, charging forward with his sword raised, wanting to take advantage of the opening to finish off the Tree of Life.

“Stop him!”

The High Priest saw the Sage’s Sword and wanted to intervene, but he couldn’t break away from his battle with the Elven King.

Quill controlling the skeletons, Luka holding the Sage’s Sword, and the sudden addition of the Wisdom Tree.

The tide of battle began to turn into a one-sided affair.

High above, the Demon King looked at the Saint, his gaze wavering noticeably.

The Saint coughed lightly. “I admit, this is a clean war.”

The Demon King’s gaze settled for two seconds, then he suddenly smiled. “Is that so?”

As his voice fell, a blood-red shadow slowly appeared.

At the same time, the Tree of Life launched a frenzied counterattack. Its remaining leaves transformed into solitary boats, emitting a strange, decadent music as they drifted in different directions.

At the Magic Academy, a sharp beast claw was grabbing for the Saintess’s head from a distance.

A bloody gash appeared on the Saintess’s shoulder. Two of the female attendants who had rushed to her aid were unfortunately torn to shreds on the spot.

A white leaf suddenly floated above her. Although she knew that overusing the Tree of Life’s gifts would bind her soul to it, the Saintess couldn’t be bothered with that now.

She directly absorbed the leaf, ignored the fate of the remaining attendants, and turned to run towards the Tree of Life.

Similar scenes were happening in every corner near the Fortress of Light, as all clergy members were desperately rushing to the main battle zone.

The Tree of Life was summoning them!

In the unchanging snowy plains of spring, the air became extremely cold.

The blood shadow now revealed its true face. Its pupils were dilated, and every single demonic bone in its body contained terrifying energy.

This face was rather unfamiliar to the younger generation.

But the Saint recognized it at a glance.

The old Demon King!

The Saint said, “You refined him into a demon puppet?”

The Demon King said faintly, “As a father, one must do something for one’s child.”

The father failed to possess the son, so the son let the father live on forever in the form of a puppet. It could be considered repaying the grace of being raised.

The demon royal bloodline was skilled in spatial movement. The blood shadow appeared below in almost a second, blocking Luka .

Luka  looked at the demon puppet, whose features bore some resemblance to his own, and his expression was not pretty.

“Grandfather.” So you weren’t buried after all.

The clergy were arriving one by one. The altar from beneath the ground rose, and some of the brainwashed clergy members on site voluntarily offered themselves as living sacrifices to enhance the Tree of Life’s energy.

Only this time, after their sacrifice, not even bone dregs were left, to prevent the necromancer from recycling them.

The curse master in the shadows no longer hesitated. Taking advantage of the chaos, the incantation from his lips blended into the air, silently enveloping the target.

Luka  was dodging the attacks from his grandfather-puppet when a sharp pain shot through his brain. His movements slowed for a moment, and his scapula was almost pierced.

When he looked over, he saw the curse master spitting blood.

What trash?

The one being cursed hadn’t even spat blood, but the one casting the curse did.

The Wisdom Tree’s core and the little person inside it bore the threat of the curse, but Luka  still felt a blockage when he used his magic.

His enemies never gave him a chance to breathe.

The airflow changed, and snow began to fall from the high sky.

Having suffered once before, Luka  knew another time stop was coming soon.

The giant beast from behind was about to catch up. The Saintess forcefully stopped time. During this, she saw the Wisdom Tree, and her gaze instantly darkened.

Who in history ever let a support class play DPS?

The elves had done it, actually moving their entire race’s hope and foundation to the main battlefield!

Time began to gradually freeze. The Tree of Life’s blessing fell upon the demon puppet and a group of demon generals, allowing them to remain unaffected. A leaf also flew towards the Demon King, but he disdained to use it, slipping into one of the spatial rifts a step ahead of the Saint.

“Luka,” the Saint’s voice came from the sky. “Learn from him.”

The Demon King: “…”

Luka  understood in a second. Putting what he learned into practice, he spread his wings and, in the second before the time stop, with great difficulty, squeezed into a spatial rift.

The blood shadow puppet followed him into the spatial rift.

The intense feeling of suffocation made it difficult for Luka  to move. The curse master was still at work, and the magic in his body had begun to run wild. Relying on the hundred-patch robe alone was definitely not enough.

Luka  tried his best to recall the feeling of playing hide-and-seek with the ferret, taking it one step at a time.

The distance between him and the puppet was less than a meter. More than being caught, Luka  was worried about the puppet self-destructing.

If that happened, there was a fifty percent chance he would be severely injured or even die.

But correspondingly, the self-destruction would cause spatial turbulence. Whether it was his heavily injured body or his soul after death, there was an eighty percent chance he would be swept away from here.

The Holy Court’s efforts would be all for naught.

Now, both sides could only engage in a war of attrition.

If this continued, Luka  estimated his chances of winning were higher.

A heaven-defying spell like time stop must have a huge cost, and it might even come with a backlash. The Holy Court couldn’t use it too many times.

Outside the spatial rift, the Saintess suddenly called out the Demon King’s name.

In fact, even before she called, the puppet behind Luka  had already made a move.

The Demon King had temporarily issued a new command.

In just a few breaths, the puppet gave up chasing Luka  and left the rift.

“???”

Luka, retreating to the edge of the rift, turned his head and saw the puppet charging towards Quill behind him. Even all the demon generals abandoned their protection of the curse master and cast their magic in one direction.

“What’s going on?”

Why, all of a sudden, were they attacking Quill?

A familiar voice echoed in his mind, bringing back his focus.

Time was too tight. Quill said only six words in a low voice: “《我的魔王父親》 (My Demon King Father).”

After thinking for about half a second, Luka  suddenly realized something.

He quickly recited an incantation to coordinate with Quill. Without further hesitation, he shuttled through the spatial rifts, rapidly approaching the Tree of Life.

His wings became a sharp tool to cut through the turbulent airflow. While protecting his torso, they were covered in cracks.

Luka’s speed was at its absolute limit. In a few breaths, he was already close to the Tree of Life.

Behind him, Quill blocked the overwhelming attacks of the demon generals.

The snowflakes in the air began to fall again; the time stop, which had lasted several seconds, was about to end.

While fighting the Saint, the Demon King had been paying attention to the situation below. He saw that Quill was about to avoid the rifts and regain mobility.

He ignored the demon generals and coldly gave the order: “Self-destruct.”

The powerful flesh of the demon puppet, just as it was about to get close, exploded violently.

The demon generals who were slightly closer didn’t even have a chance to scream before they were annihilated.

Luka, who had already flown ten thousand meters away, could feel the powerful shockwave from the terrifying self-destruction behind him.

His eyes reddened slightly, but he did not look back.

Luka  knew he had to trust Quill, to trust that he could withstand it and survive.

Having survived being scattered into pieces in the past, no one was stronger than Alex when it came to survivability.

“How is that possible?”

Seeing Luka’s speed increase rather than decrease, the Saintess, having finally shaken off the old monster from the Boulder City, was frozen in place.

This time, her face truly lost all color in shock.

The Demon King also showed a look of astonishment.

For the first and only time, the former husband and wife felt complete and utter shock.

The Saintess suddenly looked up at the sky and roared at the High Priest, “The altar—”

The High Priest ignored the Elven King’s arrows, trading injury for a chance to ignite the altar, trying to activate the inscriptions on it.

This was originally meant to prevent the Demon King from pulling the rug out from under them, but now it had to be used ahead of schedule.

The demon princes were also frantically bombarding Luka with magic, attempting to slow him down. However, after shooting through the warships, the elven elders immediately came down to hold back the demon princes.

Luka had already arrived at the Tree of Life!

His anger made the ball of faith light condensed in his hand incredibly pure. He smashed it towards the altar first, destroying the inscriptions on it.

He knew why the Demon King and the Saintess were surprised.
My Demon King Father.

That book satirized the husband-and-wife relationship that was mixed with false sentiment.

They must have thought that he and Alex also had that kind of relationship.

Alex’s diaries from his time wandering abroad had led the Demon King to naturally assume they had also entered into a low-level soul contract.

If one party, the master, was severely injured, the other party would also be severely injured.

One puppet’s self-destruction could simultaneously injure both of them. It was the perfect path to victory.

So at the last moment, they chose to concentrate all their firepower on Quill.

However, they never would have dreamed that he and Quill had signed an equal contract, which could be dissolved as long as both parties agreed.

In the second the puppet had disappeared earlier, they had already dissolved the contract. Their injuries could not affect each other.

His scarred wings flapped. The Tree of Life sensed the threat, and all its branches and leaves shot towards Luka.

The Wisdom Tree’s branches turned into millions of green light points, forming a green wall that blocked the sweeping foliage.

Luka seized the opportunity to rise into the sky, pouring almost all of his magic into the Sage’s Sword.

“Don’t! Once the Tree of Life perishes, I will also…”

The Saintess no longer had the strength for a third time stop. At this final juncture, she could only try to use their mother-son bond to make Luka show mercy.

He raised his hand, swung the sword, and it fell.

Luka’s eyes were cold and determined as he stabbed straight down.

The other half of the tree’s canopy was instantly chopped off and fell to the ground!

A sound far beyond the limits of human hearing erupted from the Tree of Life. Its remaining trunk was immediately set upon and devoured by the Wisdom Tree.

The Saintess spat out a large mouthful of blood, her body becoming semi-transparent.

The fates of all the clergy had long been firmly bound to the Tree of Life in the form of a soul contract.

The Saintess’s soul was still relatively intact, but her power was continuously dissipating along with the Tree of Life. Having overdrawn her magic earlier, she was now suffering a rapid backlash that an ordinary human body could not withstand.

“No, no…”

She could not accept such a defeat. She couldn’t understand why the damage from the puppet’s self-destruction hadn’t been secondarily reflected onto Luka.

Luka did not look at the Tree of Life, nor at the Saintess. He turned and flew towards a weak figure behind him.

The Saintess watched this scene blurrily, and a belated conclusion formed in her mind:
—Died from not believing in true love.
