DKIE CH18.1: Myriad Dynasties Assembly
After complaining about the diary, Luka observed stealthily.
The bluff didn’t work?
According to the Quill Pen’s personality, if it had treasure, it would definitely mention it, and even if it didn’t, it would still boast about its past glory.
To show no reaction at all was unusual.
This pen seemed to have become more composed than before.
I have to test it.
Luka rolled over and got up. “You’re right, what’s a hundred million? I’ll start writing the second part of Beloved Three-and-a-Half-Year-Old right now.”
After the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the Quill Pen lay in Luka’s palm, looking as if it had lost the will to live, panting slightly. The shaft of the pen still had traces of sweat left from the boy’s furious writing.
Luka calmly put the manuscript away.
It really had more stamina now.
Before, it would always throw up before finishing ten sentences.
Knock knock knock.
Knock knock knock knock.
A series of urgent knocks suddenly came from the door.
Time had passed quickly since he had returned and started writing. In the blink of an eye, it was almost dark.
Luka lit a lamp. After opening the door, Lilian said without even catching her breath, “The Eldest Prince of the Demon Clan just entered the city.”
Luka’s first reaction was that since the Demon King was here, it was normal for the Eldest Prince to come and meet him. But Lilian’s next sentence made his heart sink to the bottom.
“You must not show your face, or your life will be in danger.”
Luka: “Is it that serious?”
This was the Holy City, after all.
Lilian: “Although the publishing industry is a niche market, the Eldest Prince was insistent on occupying this industry back then. I heard he believes that words can also be weapons.”
“Now because of you… or rather, because of the dragons, everyone is paying attention to this industry again. And the Demon King happens to be in the Holy City. The Eldest Prince’s mind is as narrow as a needle’s eye. He will definitely feel that you’ve made him lose face.”
What kind of ridiculous misplaced anger was this?
Luka frowned, but he had to admit, Alec’s foresight was quite advanced.
“I’m afraid it’s useless even if I don’t show my face,” Luka said. “When I was in Boulder City, a demon servant was already watching me.”
After that, his departure from Boulder City with the City Lord was not exactly a big secret.
Lilian was stunned for a moment. A moment later, she gritted her teeth and reluctantly took out a spirit tablet from her storage ring and stuffed it into his hand. “This is for you.”
Luka was puzzled.
“Our family had another child who died before I was born. If you carry this spirit tablet, you can say that you were long ago betrothed to my family. My dad is in the Holy City, so then I’ll have a reason to ask him to help you.”
Luka was a little touched.
He and Lilian hadn’t known each other for long, and they had only worked together once or twice. He hadn’t expected her to be so enthusiastic.
“She’s lying to you,” the Quill Pen sneered. “Succubi have bloodline protection. It’s rare for a child to die.”
Not to mention her father was an alchemist.
Luka was startled. Then, looking at Lilian, he directly said the key phrase from the telepathic message: “Bloodline protection.”
He didn’t think she was deliberately trying to harm him. Otherwise, she could have just ambushed him, which would have been much faster.
Lilian was instantly embarrassed. “You even know about that.”
Usually, only succubi knew about this.
“Alright, actually, this is my turtle’s spirit tablet.”
“…”
Lilian waved her hand. “Anyway, no one else knows, and my dad won’t deny it, because he used to raise that turtle as his son too.”
Luka immediately changed his grip to hold the spirit tablet with both hands. “Please help me tell your esteemed father that once I get through this crisis, I will definitely return his esteemed son unharmed.”
“Mmm-hmm. There’s a special magic array on it. If you encounter danger, just break it. My dad can sense it.”
After Lilian left, Luka looked at the spirit tablet and fell into deep thought. “Lilian’s dad can raise a turtle as his son, while the Demon King raises his son like a turtle.”
Just as he finished his lamentation, there was another knock at the door.
Cullen’s sense of smell was extremely sharp. He smelled the lingering scent of perfume in the room. “Lilian was here?”
Luka nodded.
Seeing this, Cullen said no more. “Since you already know, be more careful.”
After speaking, he turned to leave.
“President Cullen.”
Luka suddenly called out to him. After a moment’s thought, he said, “If one day, my identity is not what you imagine…”
But Cullen directly interrupted him, saying only five words: “I am a businessman.”
We gather for profit, and part when the profit is gone.
Luka understood his attitude and accepted this fact calmly, nodding. “I understand.”
He always liked to be prepared. He understood that he needed to find new partners and prepare for future collaborations.
However, before Luka could finish speaking, a high-level spatial scroll suddenly appeared in his hand. It had a wider range than the orc’s scroll. At the same time, a mask as thin as a cicada’s wing and a black card also appeared.
“Wear this mask, and you can temporarily change your appearance. The annual dividends will still be deposited into this card. This is the preparation I make for every partner I part ways with.”
Seeing his skilled action of taking things out, Luka’s eyelid twitched. “Among your business partners…”
There must be quite a few law-breakers.
“Luka.”
Cullen rarely called him by his name. The last time, Luka felt his voice had a sincere illusion. This time, it felt a little different.
“I’ve worked with many people with criminal records. You are the most special,” Cullen said truthfully. “You are very young, you have many ideas, and most importantly, even when you’re being cunning, you don’t make people feel annoyed.”
He glanced at the black card. “If you’re worried you won’t be able to use this money after you die, I can also help you transfer it to your family.”
Cullen guessed that Luka’s identity probably symbolized some big trouble, otherwise he wouldn’t be so abnormal.
Besides the Eldest Prince of the Demon Clan, the other party had an even more deadly threat.
Luka shook his head. “If I’m dead, giving them money is useless. When the time comes, help me use the money in the card to hire people to kill them all. Just send us to have a family reunion.”
“…”
“It’s best to kill them on the fifteenth,” Luka’s face bloomed with a gentle and warm smile, “because the moon of the fifteenth is full on the sixteenth.”
A full family reunion.
Seeing the suspicious holy light radiating from his entire body, Cullen was now completely certain he wasn’t joking.
The long-standing confusion was answered. Luka’s background was indeed extraordinary, but the other’s crisis might have come precisely from his family.
Luka rubbed his chin, trying his best to hold back his bell-like laughter, and asked:
“If there are successive big deals, but selling them would offend other powers, would the merchant guild take them?”
Cullen didn’t answer directly, but gave an example instead: “Once, a dark elf stole the greatest treasure of the Elf Clan and, on the way, also robbed a heavily injured demon. These stolen goods were ultimately auctioned through the Rhine Merchant Guild. The dark elf got the money and exchanged it for the resources he wanted. Unfortunately, less than two years later, he was found dead, a miserable death.”
Luka understood. As long as it was a normal transaction, the Rhine Merchant Guild would take any business, but it would not interfere in the life or death of the buyer and seller.
The merchant guild’s own strength was enough to handle the trouble that came with this principle.
Holding the valuable spatial scroll and mask in his arms, Cullen had already been more than benevolent.
Luka turned and poured two glasses of wine, raising his glass. “To every good gathering and good parting.”
Cullen smiled and clinked glasses with him.
It was too late now. Luka arranged to discuss some follow-up sales issues regarding Three-and-a-half early the next morning.
Cullen agreed. Before leaving, he reminded him again, “The Myriad Dynasties Assembly is in a few days. A large number of guests will be arriving one after another. If you have nothing to do, don’t go wandering around the other guesthouses.”
The Holy City had more than one guesthouse for receiving distinguished guests. There was one in each of the four directions—east, west, north, and south—of the inner city. There was even a huge building on an island in the city’s artificial lake.
These special guesthouses with vast areas were mainly for receiving some races with huge bodies, such as the Dragon Clan, the Orc Clan, and so on.
If he were to encounter someone with a bad temper, he would get into trouble for no reason.
…
The Demon Clan would definitely rank in the top three for bad tempers.
In the Demon Clan’s guesthouse, on a chair covered with a high-grade cashmere blanket, a man with dark red hair and green eyes was sitting half-turned. He was playing with a diamond-shaped crystal. The crystal itself had some brightness.
“This is the latest gadget developed by the Dwarf Clan?”
The demon servant kneeling below immediately reported, “An enhanced version of the miniature Memory Stone. After activation, it can hide its form. It’s very difficult to be detected when eavesdropping or monitoring. We’ve already negotiated with the Dwarf Clan. They won’t be displaying this single item at the Myriad Dynasties Assembly this time, and it will only be provided to Your Highness in the future.”
“Well done,” Alec was very satisfied. The faint light made his naturally sickly skin appear even paler. “I imagine you all spent a lot of effort.”
His Highness actually said they did well.
The demon servant knelt on the ground excitedly. “I swear my life to serve the Eldest Prince.”
A playful expression appeared on Alec’s lips.
How interesting.
He bought these gadgets precisely to replace the demon servants. After all, demon servants get tired, die, and get caught. How could they be as useful as these little gadgets?
And they were even grateful to him.
Alec summoned a demon servant, and at the same time, a black feathered cloak appeared in his hand.
“Many years ago, I killed a dark elf and looted a nice item from him,” Alec said in a slightly gentle tone. “Back then, this dark elf successfully entered and exited the Elf Clan relying solely on this feathered cloak. Put it on and go to the Human Clan’s guesthouse. You know what to do next.”
What Alec didn’t say was that the cost of using this feathered cloak was extremely high. It would invisibly absorb life energy.
To give away such a precious feathered cloak just like that, the demon servant excitedly took it and knelt again to show his loyalty.
“This subordinate will definitely complete the mission.”
Alec paid him no mind, a chilling smile on his face.
Actually, he had also read that book, Beloved Three-and-a-half-year-old. He was afraid that this author’s initial target was the Dragon Clan.
He had also tried to stir up trouble with words before, but unfortunately, he had failed for various reasons. Now, someone had actually used such an absurd story to successfully attract the attention of the Dragon Clan and even made them spend a fortune in the Holy City for a virtual character.
The armrest of the chair crumbled to dust in Alec’s hand.
His gaze gradually became gloomy.
When he went to see his father earlier, he was stopped by an attendant on the grounds that his father was busy. This made him suspect that his standing in his father’s heart had declined somewhat compared to his other siblings.
But first, he had to solve this trouble at hand.
It was not a good thing for humans and dragons to get too close.
