ASPWL Ch3: The Stubborn Donkey

The Huo family was all startled.

Huo Jing and Papa Huo were the first to rush over, and the butler and maids had already supported Huo Yan. The family doctor also hurried over.

After a simple examination, the doctor concluded, “Low blood sugar combined with emotional distress.”

In short: fainted from anger.

The doctor had Huo Yan sent back to his room and administered glucose.

After the chaos subsided and knowing Huo Yan was fine, everyone present was relieved.

Ye Leyao let out a long sigh of relief.

Although he didn’t know why things were developing in a good direction without him doing anything, it was indeed a cause for celebration.

Even though his second brother had fallen and fainted today, at least he hadn’t completely broken with the Huo family and had barely seen through Su Rui’s true colors.

As long as Second Brother can completely let go and separate from Su Rui, there shouldn’t be a series of subsequent issues, right?

【Thinking about it this way, Second Brother really made a worthwhile sacrifice today. Now he doesn’t have to go to RT-Mart to kill fish!】

【But isn’t Second Brother’s endurance a bit too weak? Su Rui just left him, and he fainted out of anger? If Su Rui keeps leaving him repeatedly, won’t Second Brother faint every day?】

Thinking of this, Ye Leyao couldn’t help but laugh:

【Looking at it this way, my Second Brother is even more delicate than the Princess and the Pea!】

The Huo family members in the room looked at each other.

Is it possible that it’s not that Huo Yan is delicate, but that your words are too infuriating?

But Ye Leyao didn’t think of this at all, still quickly analyzing in his mind:

【However, I think Su Rui probably won’t let this go easily. Now that he’s broken up with He Shi, he definitely won’t go looking for him to save face. But he still has several contracts, breaking them requires money, and having a child also needs money. If he comes to ask Second Brother for money later, will my love-struck Second Brother give it to him?】

As soon as the glucose drip was administered, Huo Yan quickly recovered. As soon as he opened his eyes, he heard this sentence.

Huo Yan struggled to sit up, his eyes red and staring intently at Ye Leyao, explaining slowly, word by word, “I… Xiao Rui is not the person you all think he is! He… he must have some difficulty. He wouldn’t treat me like this…”

Ye Leyao met Huo Yan’s red eyes, couldn’t help but move closer behind Mama Huo, his face full of innocence: 【Second Brother, explaining to me is useless, the fact is that Su Rui has already abandoned you for money.】

Mama Huo couldn’t help but turn around, wanting to tell Ye Leyao to say less.

Then she met Ye Leyao’s innocent eyes.

Mama Huo: “…”

Right.

Ye Leyao hadn’t actually said anything; he was just rich in inner monologues.

Huo Yan was stimulated by this sentence, took a sharp breath, and when he spoke again, his voice trembled, “Xiao Rui and I love each other! I’ve liked him since college, just when he wasn’t with his ex yet, but now they’ve been broken up for four months…”

Ye Leyao listened seriously, nodding repeatedly: 【Yes, so Su Rui’s child is also four months old, no problem!】

Huo Yan’s body trembled, his breathing quickened, and he stiffened his neck, “No, no way! That night… that night…”

Ye Leyao seemed to think of something, quickly opened the memo on his phone. After all, it had been eighteen years since he transmigrated into this world, and he had just recovered his memories from his past life. Now, Ye Leyao’s mind was still a bit chaotic, with many novel plots needing slow organization, so he had noted all the plot details he remembered in his memo downstairs.

While flipping through the memo, Ye Leyao nodded repeatedly.

【I see, on the night of the celebration banquet, Second Brother was drunk, and Su Rui helped him back to the hotel, where they purely slept together.】

【So my Second Brother is not only a love-struck fool but also lacks basic biological knowledge!】

【I wonder, how can a person who’s dead drunk have a vigorous night and even hit the mark in one go?】

Ye Leyao put away his phone, concluding decisively:

【I’m a clear-headed foolish college student, but I’m not an idiot!】

With every word Ye Leyao said, Huo Yan’s face turned a shade paler.

In the end, Huo Yan’s lips parted, his face devoid of the last trace of color, his body trembling slightly, and he mumbled, shaking his head, “No… Xiao Rui couldn’t have lied to me…”

Father and Mama Huo, who had always wondered how Su Rui got pregnant, finally understood.

Seeing that Huo Yan still refused to face reality, Mama Huo signaled to Papa Huo with her eyes.

Papa Huo cleared his throat. Talking about such things in front of the three younger ones was quite embarrassing, but after some hesitation, he still spoke, “Getting pregnant… isn’t as easy as you think. When your mother and I…”

Ye Leyao’s gossiping spirit ignited instantly, his eyes shining as he looked at Papa Huo: 【What happened, what happened?】

Mama Huo glared at Papa Huo.

Papa Huo quickly swallowed the rest of his words, turning to look at his eldest son, Huo Jing.

His eyes signaled: Hurry, you say something!

Despite being twenty-six years old, Huo Jing had been dedicated to his career over the years, living a life of clear abstinence.

Receiving Papa Huo’s signal, he slightly furrowed his deep brows, his ear tips turning slightly red, and after a long while, he spoke with some difficulty, “Second Brother, alcohol suppresses the central nervous system, leading to… um… well… difficulty.”

Ye Leyao: 【Yes!】

Mama Huo timely supplemented, “Think carefully about the details of that night.”

What details could Huo Yan think of?

The only thing he clearly remembered was the scene of being drunk and dizzy, with Su Rui helping him back to the hotel, followed by a complete blank.

Huo Yan’s colorless lips moved, his face looking deeply shocked.

Seeing this, Ye Leyao couldn’t help but sigh again: 【Second Brother looks like he’s about to…】

“Xiao Yao,” Mama Huo timely interrupted Ye Leyao’s inner monologue, preventing him from saying the remaining two “shatter again,” “It’s getting late, are you hungry?”

Ye Leyao wanted to say he wasn’t hungry, just sleepy. Mainly because the memories of his past life and this life were tangled in his mind, and he might need some time to sort them out.

But Mama Huo had already kindly taken him by the shoulder, smiling, “Let your Second Brother rest for a while, let’s go out first.”

Since Mama Huo had said so, Ye Leyao couldn’t stay any longer and followed her out of the room.

Near noon, the family’s chef had already prepared lunch.

After eating and drinking to his fill, Ye Leyao felt even more sleepy.

Ye Leyao decided to take a nap first. After informing Father and Mama Huo, he went upstairs.

Returning to his room, Ye Leyao fell asleep as soon as he hit the bed.

Although this nap wasn’t very long, memories from his past life surged like a tide, and in his sleep, Ye Leyao finally sorted through his past life’s memories.

Just like his current identity, in his past life, he was also a college student and an avid reader of various popular online novels.

After staying up for two consecutive days and nights reading novels, he died suddenly. After his death, he transmigrated into a world composed of multiple novels, becoming a child of the Ye family.

Unfortunately, his biological parents died in an accident when he was five years old. Afterward, he was taken in and raised by the Huo family. However, the entire Huo family were antagonists in the novels, while he was just an unnamed minor character.

After more than ten years of living together, Ye Leyao regarded Father and Mama Huo as his parents. Although his relationship with his three brothers was still average, Ye Leyao didn’t want them to face the tragic endings depicted in the novels.

After waking up from his nap, Ye Leyao quickly recorded all the plot points he could remember in his memo while he still remembered them.

As he recorded, he couldn’t help but sigh:

【Mama Huo is actually this kind of person…】

【Too much, how could Papa Huo…】

【No, I have to find a chance to remind Third Brother…】

The rest of the Huo family downstairs: “…”

Are his inner thoughts unlimited by distance?

The three Huo brothers on the sofa exchanged looks, feeling like something was scratching at their hearts. Why wasn’t Ye Leyao finishing his thoughts this time?

What exactly was he leaving out!

Mama Huo glanced at Papa Huo.

Papa Huo silently reflected, although he really hadn’t done anything, he still felt a bit guilty for some reason.

While Ye Leyao was asleep, the Huo family held a small family meeting.

The meeting naturally revolved around their sudden ability to hear Ye Leyao’s inner thoughts.

When they first heard Ye Leyao’s inner thoughts, they were all startled.

Mama Huo even suspected that Ye Leyao might have been “possessed,” but after brief observation, she confirmed that the child in front of her was indeed Ye Leyao. How could she not recognize the child she had raised?

Although they didn’t understand what had changed in Ye Leyao or how he knew the so-called “plot,” as long as Ye Leyao was healthy and safe, they were relieved.

The only thing they needed to consider was whether the “plot” Ye Leyao mentioned was true.

After the incident with Su Rui that morning, Father and Mama Huo were inclined to believe it somewhat. However, without concrete evidence, they couldn’t make any definitive conclusions.

The most pressing issue was whether they should tell Ye Leyao that they could hear his inner thoughts.

Would telling him affect their future “plot”?

No one could make a rash decision, nor could they predict the unknown results brought about by the flap of a butterfly’s wings.

In the end, after a family discussion, they decided not to tell Ye Leyao for the time being.

By the time Ye Leyao finished recording all the plot points he could remember, it was already dark outside.

He went downstairs with his phone, just in time to encounter Huo Yan, who had also just come out of his room.

Huo Yan looked like a wilting eggplant, his whole demeanor listless and his eyes devoid of spirit.

Seeing Ye Leyao, a fleeting emotion flashed in his eyes but was quickly suppressed.

Ye Leyao blinked, hesitating before speaking, “Second Brother, are you okay?”

You think I need your comfort?

Huo Yan turned his head, not wanting to look at Ye Leyao.

Ye Leyao didn’t say anything further but couldn’t help thinking: 【Looks like Second Brother really loves his white moonlight, too bad the white moonlight only loves money.】

Huo Yan gritted his teeth, his chest heaving violently. Recalling Mama Huo’s advice from the afternoon, he took a deep breath, deciding not to argue with Ye Leyao, and turned to go downstairs.

Ye Leyao followed him down. As they reached the stairs, they overheard Father and Mama Huo discussing:

“He still doesn’t believe it?” Papa Huo asked.

Mama Huo replied, “Your son is as stubborn as a mule, you know that.”

Papa Huo sighed, “So what do we do?”

Mama Huo said, “Huo Jing will go talk to the Chi family about breaking off the engagement tomorrow. As for Su Rui…”

Mama Huo hesitated, clearly finding the situation tricky.

Even for an amniocentesis DNA test, Su Rui had to cooperate…

Huo Yan couldn’t hold back anymore. Just as he was about to step forward, a voice sounded behind him—

【What’s so hard about this! Su Rui just wants money. If Mama Huo doesn’t want Su Rui to pester Second Brother anymore, she can just throw a check at him and say domineeringly: “Here’s ten million, leave my son alone!”】

Huo Yan’s chest tightened.

Mama Huo’s eyes lit up.

Great idea!
