ASPWL Ch119: Huo Yan’s Story

In the following journey, Huo Yan did not speak again. Feng Rui noticed that Huo Yan seemed uninterested in continuing the conversation, so he did not take the initiative to find a topic to discuss. Instead, he kept chatting with someone on his phone.

When the driver finally stopped the car at the restaurant entrance, Feng Rui put away his phone and said calmly, “Brother Huo Yan, my brother is already here.”

Huo Yan nodded, not mentioning the painful subject from earlier.

Once inside the private room, Huo Yan indeed saw his long-lost friend.

After years of no contact, Feng Sheng looked much more mature. However, since Huo Yan had stayed in touch with Feng Sheng over the years, the two of them didn’t feel too distant.

Yet, for some reason, Huo Yan had a strange feeling that the gaze Feng Sheng gave him carried a hint of resentment that he couldn’t quite understand.

As old friends, after finishing the meal and with Feng Rui going to the bathroom, Huo Yan still couldn’t help but ask, “Did I offend you somehow?”

Feng Sheng curled the corner of his lips, forcing out a fake smile. “How could that be? You’ve got it wrong.”

Huo Yan understood; it seemed Feng Sheng didn’t like him. Although he wasn’t sure why, it was clear that he didn’t like him.

Fine. Friendship, like love, can’t be forced. Since Feng Sheng didn’t want to open up to him anymore, Huo Yan had no reason to insist.

Once he made up his mind, Huo Yan didn’t think about it further. The Feng family had business dealings with several companies in Jin City, and his parents were back in China, so they had arranged a banquet.

The Huo family was naturally on the invitation list. Mama Huo knew about his good relationship with Feng Sheng, and the day before the banquet, she specially called Huo Yan to ask if he would go.

Huo Yan refused without hesitation.

Mama Huo was somewhat surprised and asked for the reason.

Huo Yan didn’t hide anything, briefly explaining their recent encounter.

After listening, his mother didn’t insist on him going.

However, to Huo Yan’s surprise, on the day of the banquet, Feng Sheng called him.

Looking at the incoming call, Huo Yan hesitated for a moment but still answered the phone.

As soon as he picked up, he heard Feng Sheng’s somewhat anxious voice asking, “Wait, Huo Yan, aren’t you coming to our family’s banquet?”

Huo Yan furrowed his brows. Feng Sheng’s tone was sarcastic, and since he wasn’t in a good mood, Huo Yan coldly replied, “Why would I go to an invitation that lacks sincerity?”

After saying that, Huo Yan immediately hung up and blocked Feng Sheng’s number. The world became peaceful again, and Huo Yan resumed reading his script.

But before he could even read for a few minutes, an unfamiliar number called.

Huo Yan answered again, and this time, the voice on the other end was Feng Rui’s. “Brother Huo Yan, it’s Feng Rui.”

Feng Sheng might be a fool, but this matter wasn’t Feng Rui’s fault, so Huo Yan remained patient and asked calmly, “Is there something you need?”

Feng Rui seemed to breathe a small sigh of relief, then replied with a smile, “Yes! I just saw Uncle Huo, Aunt Lin, and even Brother Jing is here. Brother Huo Yan, why didn’t you come?”

So he was asking about the same thing.

Huo Yan replied, “I rarely attend our family’s banquets, and I had some matters today, so I didn’t go.”

Feng Rui’s tone seemed somewhat disappointed. “Oh, okay then… I won’t disturb you anymore, Brother Huo Yan.”

The phone call ended.

Huo Yan thought for a moment, saved Feng Rui’s number, and then turned his phone to silent mode.

Huo Yan took his script again, and this time, no one disturbed him.

Not long after the Feng family’s banquet ended, the New Year arrived.

This year, Qin Hongxi came to the Huo family for the New Year, and Huo Jing brought Feng Jialan, while only Ho Ze, along with Ning Xu, flew abroad.

During the New Year’s Eve dinner, the conversation naturally turned to Huo Yan.

Qin Hongxi asked, “Is the second one still single this year?”

Huo Yan smiled helplessly, “Uncle Qin, it’s New Year’s, can we talk about something happy?”

The others couldn’t help but laugh.

Papa Huo, who didn’t want to say much, still couldn’t resist asking, “You haven’t forgotten about Su Rui, have you?”

When this name was mentioned, Ye Leyao couldn’t hold back and laughed out loud. The others in the family couldn’t stop themselves either.

Huo Yan’s face turned dark. “Dad! It’s been so many years! If you hadn’t kept bringing it up, I probably wouldn’t even remember his name!”

The laughter in the room grew louder.

Afterward, Mama Huo spoke up, “Since you’ve forgotten, then you shouldn’t keep locking your heart away.”

The family dinner was almost over, and the atmosphere was warm.

It was then that Huo Yan spoke a truth, “It’s not that I’ve locked my heart away; it’s that I haven’t met the right person.”

Upon hearing this, no one in the family said anything further. After all, it all comes down to fate.

After the New Year’s Eve dinner.

Before leaving, Qin Yao turned around and looked at Huo Yan, “Do we need to bring a third wheel?”

Huo Yan replied, “…You two should just hurry up and leave.”

Qin Yao decisively left with Ye Leyao.

Even from a distance, Huo Yan could still hear Ye Leyao’s laughter.

That night, after drinking a bit, Huo Yan pressed his aching temples and decided to go to the back garden for some fresh air.

However, as soon as he arrived at the backyard, he saw Feng Jialan and another person with their heads close together, speaking sweetly to each other.

Huo Yan: “…”

Well, it looks like he should quickly leave!

Since it wasn’t snowing on this New Year’s Eve and he couldn’t stay at home, Huo Yan decided to take a walk outside the villa.

The villa area was very quiet, and the streetlights were bright.

Not long after, Huo Yan suddenly heard the sound of firecrackers. Turning around, he saw an unexpected figure.

The two of them exchanged looks from a distance, and Huo Yan spoke first, “Feng Rui?”

Feng Rui smiled and hopped over, “Brother Huo Yan!”

Huo Yan then remembered that the Feng family’s villa was in the same area as the Huo family’s old residence. However, since he had rarely stayed at the house after becoming an adult, he hadn’t run into Feng Rui before.

“Are you here alone?” Huo Yan asked.

Feng Rui nodded with a smile, “Mm, my family has some guests today; it’s a bit noisy, so I came out for a walk.”

Huo Yan nodded, then said, “I’m also out for a walk.”

Since it was getting chilly standing there with the wind blowing, they decided to walk together.

However, as they walked, an uninvited guest appeared.

From a distance, Huo Yan saw Feng Sheng.

When Feng Rui saw Huo Yan stop, he looked over and his expression changed slightly. “I… It’s my brother.”

Huo Yan nodded slightly, showing no intention of going over to greet Feng Sheng. He said to Feng Rui, “It’s getting late; I’ll head back now.”

Feng Rui opened his mouth, but in the end, no words came out. He could only watch helplessly as Huo Yan turned and walked away.

It wasn’t until Huo Yan’s figure disappeared that Feng Sheng slowly walked over to Feng Rui, speaking in a calm tone, “See? He didn’t even want to acknowledge you, and you insisted on getting close to him…”

Before he could finish, Feng Sheng looked down and suddenly saw his precious little brother’s face covered in tears.

Feng Sheng was taken aback. “Why are you crying…?”

Feng Rui’s voice was choked with sobs as he angrily glared at Feng Sheng. “Why didn’t Huo Yan acknowledge me? You really don’t know why?!”

That night, a family conflict erupted in the Feng household.

The cause, of course, was because Feng Sheng had made Feng Rui cry, and he was then criticized by the entire family.

Feng Rui sat on the sofa with red eyes. His mother was sitting beside him, wiping away his tears while comforting him, “Alright, alright, don’t cry, don’t cry…”

Father Feng glared at his eldest son, “Look at you! I already warned you to leave Xiao Rui alone, but you had to interfere! Now look, even Huo Yan has issues with you and blocked you!”

Feng Sheng’s face was also filled with anger. “Do you think I don’t have a problem with him? I already did well by not stopping Xiao Rui from interacting with him…”

When Feng Rui heard this, he immediately cried even harder.

“Feng Sheng!” Mother Feng couldn’t hold back anymore and said sternly, “What exactly do you want to do?”

Seeing his little brother crying so badly, Feng Sheng couldn’t help but feel guilty and shifted his gaze. “I just think Huo Yan isn’t good enough for my brother…”

“Whether he’s good enough or not has nothing to do with you!” Mother Feng’s face was full of anger.

Father Feng said, “Matters of the heart are between two people. Why are you getting involved?”

“But Huo Yan is ten years older than Xiao Rui…”

“So what if he’s ten years older? As long as his character is good, he genuinely likes Xiao Rui and treats him well, isn’t that enough?” Mother Feng retorted.

Feng Sheng obviously knew this logic, but he just felt that Huo Yan was trying to climb up to his brother’s level!

“Enough,” Mother Feng said sternly, “From now on, you’re not allowed to interfere in Xiao Rui’s romantic matters! Also, you need to apologize to Huo Yan.”

Feng Sheng widened his eyes. “Why should I apologize…?”

Father Feng shot him a sharp look. “He’s not even coming to our family’s banquet, and you’re asking why?!”

Feng Sheng fell silent.

When he looked up again, he saw his younger brother, Feng Rui, still crying on the sofa.

Feng Rui rarely cried, especially in front of so many family members.

Seeing his little brother cry like this, Feng Sheng felt uneasy.

After a long while, he couldn’t help but ask, “Xiao Rui, do you really like Huo Yan?”

Feng Rui rubbed his eyes, trying to stop the tears, but they wouldn’t stop.

“I… If I didn’t like him, why would I be angry with you?” Feng Rui’s voice was hoarse from crying.

Feng Sheng sighed. Although he still found it hard to accept, seeing his little brother so upset made him reluctant to let him stay hurt.

After a while, Feng Sheng finally said, “Alright, I’ll go apologize to Huo Yan tomorrow.”

Only after Feng Sheng spoke did Feng Rui manage to stop his tears.

The next morning, on the first day of the New Year.

Feng Rui woke up with red, swollen eyes.

Mother Feng had already prepared the New Year’s greeting gifts and handed them to Feng Sheng.

Feng Sheng took the gifts, bringing Feng Rui along, and headed to the Huo family’s house.

Huo Yan had stayed up late the night before, so he woke up late that morning.

To his surprise, the door to his room was knocked on early.

Ye Leyao’s voice came from outside: “Big Brother, isn’t the second brother still asleep?”

Qin Yao responded, “Mm.”

Huo Jing’s voice followed: “Hasn’t he been woken up yet?”

Ye Leyao said, “There’s no sound coming from the room.”

Huo Jing then reached out and twisted the door handle.

Huo Yan sighed heavily. “I’m awake, I’ll be down soon. What’s going on?”

Hearing him wake up, Ye Leyao immediately laughed and stopped Ho Jing from speaking, “Big Brother, now you know!”

After saying that, Ye Leyao pulled the two of them downstairs.

Huo Yan knew that they wouldn’t have woken him up unless it was something important. However, Ye Leyao’s strange “heh heh” made him feel a little cautious.

Huo Yan didn’t drag his feet, quickly got out of bed, washed up, and went downstairs.

When he entered the living room, he saw two unexpected figures.

His gaze first landed on Feng Sheng, but after a quick glance, he shifted it away and then locked eyes with Feng Rui, whose eyes were red and swollen.

Huo Yan furrowed his brows.

Seeing Huo Yan come downstairs, Mama Huo waved at him. “Lao’er, come over here, Xiao Sheng brought Xiao Rui over.”

Huo Yan walked over and sat beside Mama Huo.

When Feng Sheng saw Huo Yan, the anger he had already suppressed suddenly flared up again. But not wanting to make his little brother sad, he took a deep breath and forced his anger down, smiling at Huo Yan. “Why are you so late?”

To his surprise, Huo Yan didn’t even look at him and instead asked Feng Rui, “What happened to your eyes?”

Feng Rui didn’t expect Huo Yan to ask him directly. His eyes lit up for a moment, then he remembered what was going on and embarrassedly covered his eyes with his hand. “I… I’m a bit allergic.”

“Wasn’t it fine last night?” Huo Yan asked.

Feng Rui quickly replied, “I… It only started after I went back home.”

Huo Yan wasn’t sure whether to believe him, so he withdrew his gaze and glanced at Feng Sheng before standing up.

It wasn’t until Huo Yan had left that Feng Sheng realized he had been completely ignored.

The relationship between the Feng and Huo families was quite good, and Feng Sheng had grown up under the care of Papa and Mama Huo. So, he felt at ease in the Huo household. When he saw Huo Yan leave, he stood up and followed him, calling out, “Hey, Huo Yan, wait!”

Mama Huo watched their backs, her gaze falling on Feng Rui, then exchanged looks with Ye Leyao.

Ye Leyao winked at Mama Huo, signaling that something was going on.

Mama Huo’s smile grew wider as she patted the seat beside her, signaling Feng Rui to sit next to her, then started to subtly ask him about his feelings for Huo Yan.

However, as soon as she asked a question, Feng Rui’s face turned bright red.

Very good.

The rest doesn’t need to be asked, everyone present already understood.

Ye Leyao pulled Qin Yao and whispered in his ear: “No wonder Feng Sheng doesn’t like my second brother!”

Qin Yao thought of something and suddenly smiled.

Ye Leyao was puzzled.

Then, he saw Qin Yao lean over and whisper to him: “It’s normal that your second brother didn’t like me back then.”

Ye Leyao couldn’t help but laugh.

Looking over to the other side, Feng Sheng followed Huo Yan and found that Huo Yan had entered the storage room, searching for the medicine cabinet.

Feng Sheng was stunned: “What medicine are you looking for? Wait, you don’t have some hidden illness, do you?”

He even thought about having Huo Yan go for a physical exam first.

Then he saw Huo Yan turn around and coldly say: “What are you following me for, Young Master Feng?”

Feng Sheng: “…”

Well, this was a retaliation for the way Huo Yan spoke to him that day.

Feng Sheng took a deep breath: “That day… I was wrong.”

Huo Yan sneered: “Oh, rare, Young Master Feng can actually apologize.”

Feng Sheng: “…”

“I was wrong, okay?  Huo Yan, can you just talk normally with me?” Feng Sheng grabbed his arm.

Huo Yan shook off Feng Sheng’s hand and took out a box of loratadine.

Feng Sheng stared at the red-and-white medicine box and asked: “What do you need this for?”

Huo Yan stepped out of the storage room, returned to the living room, and placed the medicine box in front of Feng Rui: “Did you take the allergy medicine?”

Feng Rui sat beside Mama Huo staring at the medicine box in front of him; his heart started pounding wildly.

Feng Sheng had a complex expression.

Everyone’s eyes turned to look, but since they all had a lot of experience in observing drama, no one spoke immediately.

Feng Rui’s ears turned red as he quietly said: “I… I already took it.”

His eyes were simply red from crying and had nothing to do with allergies.

But Feng Rui didn’t want to let Huo Yan know that he was crying because of his anger.

Huo Yan said: “Keep it; your eyes are still swollen; take another one after lunch.”

Feng Rui reached out and took the medicine box, nodding repeatedly.

Seeing this, Feng Sheng swallowed his words, his throat bobbing. In the end, he didn’t say anything.

Just like his parents had said, matters of the heart were between two people.

Feng Rui liked Huo Yan; as long as Huo Yan had good character and treated Feng Rui well, that was enough.

After realizing this, Feng Sheng sighed deeply. He tried to console himself; well, at least he was a person who had grown up with Feng Rui and knew him well. That was better than someone outside with an unknown background!

The brothers didn’t stay long at the Huo family, as if they had just come for New Year’s greetings.

However, Huo Yan couldn’t shake the feeling that something felt off after that day. He couldn’t quite pinpoint what was strange, but over the New Year, his family seemed a little odd.

They often whispered behind his back, and whenever Huo Yan asked, they just smiled and said nothing.

Huo Yan asked twice, but they wouldn’t say anything, so he stopped asking.

After the holidays, Huo Yan returned to filming.

He had taken a break the whole of last year, and now returning to work, his fans were ecstatic. On the first day of shooting, not only did they send him support, but his big fans also prepared gifts for everyone on the crew.

Huo Yan couldn’t let his fans spend too much, so he called his assistant and asked him to prepare red envelopes for everyone on the crew.

Once the assistant packed the red envelopes and went out, he returned in less than two minutes.

Huo Yan was surprised: “What’s this…”

“Brother Huo, this person is here to see you!” said the assistant.

Huo Yan looked up and met Feng Rui’s bright eyes.

“Brother Huo Yan!” Feng Rui waved at Huo Yan with a smile.

Huo Yan’s eyes flashed with surprise: “What are you doing here?”

Feng Rui was holding a wrapped gift, quickly walking up: “I know your drama starts today, so I came to visit the set and bring you this gift.”

Huo Yan didn’t take the gift: “No need for gifts…”

Before he could finish, he heard Feng Rui say: “This is a return gift!”

Huo Yan: “Hmm?”

Feng Rui, a little embarrassed, said: “The allergy medicine.”

Huo Yan then remembered the box of loratadine. He smiled, and since Feng Rui had gone this far, refusing would hurt his feelings, so Huo Yan took the gift and seriously thanked him, even mentioning that he would treat him to a meal next time.

Feng Rui happily agreed, then asked Huo Yan if he could stay and watch him film.

Huo Yan had no reason to refuse.

But what he didn’t expect was that Feng Rui stayed the whole day.

When Huo Yan finished work and removed his makeup in the evening, he found that Feng Rui had actually fallen asleep in the makeup room.

Huo Yan went to ask the assistant.

The assistant whispered: “I’ve tried to persuade him, but he wouldn’t listen.”

Huo Yan felt a headache but still went over to wake him up. After finding out that Feng Rui had already eaten, he asked the driver to take him back.

Just as Huo Yan thought this was the end, the next day, Feng Rui came again.

Not only the second day, but the third and fourth… Feng Rui came for seven days straight.

It was only then that Huo Yan realized something was off.

Feng Rui arrived punctually every day, almost exactly before Huo Yan’s first scene of the day.

After greeting Huo Yan, he would sit aside and watch him film.

During breaks, Huo Yan would see Feng Rui chatting with the assistant or crew members.

At lunchtime, Feng Rui would have lunch with Huo Yan and the crew.

If he got tired, Feng Rui would go to Huo Yan’s rest room to take a nap.

Huo Yan’s rest room had a recliner that he didn’t use; though he had told Feng Rui several times, Feng Rui stubbornly refused to lie down on the recliner.

One day, they had a night shoot.

Before shooting began, Huo Yan reminded his assistant to send Feng Rui back on time.

However, when Huo Yan finished work at four in the morning and returned to the rest room, he found that Feng Rui was still there.

It was still cold even with the air conditioning, but this time, Feng Rui wasn’t lying on the desk. He was curled up on the recliner, covered with a thin blanket, sleeping soundly.

Huo Yan instinctively walked quietly over, his gaze falling on Feng Rui’s sleeping face.

Feng Rui had long eyelashes, casting a small shadow under his eyes.

His features were delicate, and his skin was fair. Even though he had only been in the crew for seven days, the director had already asked Huo Yan several times if he could give him a guest role.

The director had said, in his words, “Such a good-looking face, it would be a waste not to let him act.”

Thinking about this, Huo Yan couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

In the past few days, Huo Yan had thought about Feng Rui’s purpose for coming to the set.

But he had never considered the possibility of it being about feelings.

After all, Feng Rui was much younger than him, and in Huo Yan’s eyes, Feng Rui had always been clearly positioned as his friend’s younger brother.

But who would have thought, while Huo Yan thought of Feng Rui as a brother, Feng Rui wasn’t content with just that.

Perhaps Huo Yan should open his heart and have a proper conversation with Feng Rui.

It was just that the timing today wasn’t right.

Huo Yan lowered his eyes and woke up Feng Rui.

Feng Rui hadn’t expected that he had slept for so long. When he sat up from the lounge chair, his soft hair had been messed up by sleep. It wasn’t until Huo Yan called his name that Feng Rui finally fully woke up. “It’s so late, I can’t go home…”

Huo Yan looked at him.

Feng Rui’s face turned slightly red. “I… Brother Huo Yan, could you take me to a nearby hotel?”

Huo Yan sighed inwardly in helplessness.

The nearby hotels had already been fully booked by the production crew, and paparazzi were watching the area daily.

Huo Yan was sure that if he took Feng Rui to a hotel tonight, they’d be trending on the next day’s hot searches.

“Come to my place,” Huo Yan said.

He explained, “The hotels nearby have too many paparazzi, and my place is not far from here.”

Feng Rui seemed to have thought of something, his face turning even redder, and he nodded repeatedly.

Huo Yan then added, “There will be an aunt at my house; I’ll have her prepare a room for you. After you wake up tomorrow, the driver will take you back.”

Feng Rui understood after hearing this. “Brother Huo Yan, won’t you be going home?”

Huo Yan said, “I have a shoot tomorrow, not in this city.”

His flight was originally booked for the morning, but to avoid any misunderstanding with Feng Rui, he could fly out tonight.

Feng Rui stared blankly at him for a moment before nodding. “Oh.”

Huo Yan looked at him for a moment, then didn’t say anything further.

The driver took Feng Rui to Huo Yan’s house to rest and then took Huo Yan to the airport.

Once at the airport, Huo Yan thought for a while and still sent a message to Feng Sheng, asking him to pick up Feng Rui from Huo Yan’s house in the morning.

The next day, after Huo Yan woke up and went to the filming location, he finally checked his phone. There were dozens of missed calls and WeChat messages, all from Feng Sheng alone—

“?”

[Damn, Huo Yan, you’re a beast!]

[You’re finished!]

[Wait… you left my brother alone at your place?]

[Huo Yan—]

[Are you even human?!]

Huo Yan finally replied: [You really seem like you’re seriously ill.]

Just as the message was sent, Feng Sheng called him.

Huo Yan hesitated for a moment but still picked up. “What’s up?”

“What’s up? What’s up?! Do you know about my brother…?”

“I know.” Huo Yan interrupted him and added, “I just found out yesterday.”

Feng Sheng got angry, “Then why did you—”

“Weren’t you the one who didn’t like me being in contact with your brother?” After understanding Feng Rui’s intentions for approaching him, the previous confusion cleared up for Huo Yan.

Now it made sense why Feng Sheng had been sarcastic before and why he had seemed so panicked when they first met Feng Rui over the phone.

When he heard this from Huo Yan, Feng Sheng’s anger instantly vanished. “You… Hey, I admit I was an asshole at that time, but…”

“Huo Yan, your brother is ten years younger than me.” Huo Yan calmly interrupted Feng Sheng.

Feng Sheng mumbled, “I damn well know, but he… likes you; what am I supposed to do?”

Huo Yan fell silent for a long while before saying, “I’ll find time to talk to him properly.”

“You talking to him won’t help.” Feng Sheng gritted his teeth.

Huo Yan replied, “Then we’ll talk.”

Huo Yan understood that this matter couldn’t be delayed. The more they delayed, the more they would waste Feng Rui’s time.

So after finishing the shoot, Huo Yan asked the director for two days off and arranged to meet Feng Rui.

Feng Rui hadn’t expected Huo Yan to take the initiative to invite him and was very excited. The next day when they met, Huo Yan immediately noticed that Feng Rui had put effort into his appearance that day.

In fact, it wasn’t just today.

During the past week, every day that Feng Rui came to the set, he had styled his hair.

However, Huo Yan hadn’t thought about it at the time and hadn’t considered the deeper meaning behind Feng Rui’s styling.

Now, after meeting again, Huo Yan finally understood.

His gaze first landed on Feng Rui’s bright eyes before scanning him up and down.

Honestly, Feng Rui was exactly Huo Yan’s type.

But were they really suited for each other?

Feng Rui sat down nervously across from Huo Yan.

Huo Yan looked at him, unable to stop himself from getting lost in his gentle and clean eyes.

A still heart that had remained calm for so long suddenly rippled, waves spreading out in every direction, endless and unceasing.

The script he had prepared in his mind was now completely forgotten.

Huo Yan suddenly found the earlier matters quite laughable.

The so-called “suitable age” issue, he admitted, was a bit of a pretense on his part.

After calming his thoughts, Huo Yan looked at Feng Rui, and what he had planned to say— “We aren’t suited”— turned into: “What do you like about me?”

Feng Rui’s eyes looked like a frightened fawn, his face full of shyness. He blinked uncertainly for a while before shyly lowering his head. “I… I’ve liked you for a long time.”

Just as Huo Yan was straightforward, Feng Rui had never tried to hide his feelings for him.

That’s why, as soon as he returned to the country, he took the initiative to find Huo Yan.

Even the “chance encounter” on New Year’s Eve was because Feng Rui had waited for an hour in the cold wind just to see the figure he had been longing for.

When did it all begin?

Feng Rui looked into Huo Yan’s eyes and answered seriously: “Five years ago,” then explained earnestly, “It wasn’t because of your work that I liked you; I first heard about you from my brother…”

Feng Sheng spoke highly of Huo Yan, describing him as humorous, considerate, and even more attractive than he was on screen.

So, at the age when he first started feeling romantic, Feng Rui had already given his heart away.

Then, he spent five years confirming Huo Yan’s feelings.

Fortunately, Feng Rui was luckier than others. Though he came late, he still made his way to Huo Yan.

He was a good match for Huo Yan, and his brother was also Huo Yan’s friend, which is why the “chance encounter” after returning to the country happened.

Fortunately, Huo Yan wasn’t entirely indifferent to Feng Rui.

Feng Rui’s appearance was meant to love Huo Yan.

He knocked on the door of Huo Yan’s long-sealed heart and threw a stone into the calm lake, creating ripples that spread out in waves.

Their story had just begun, but it would never end here.

  1. I’m actually appreciate that author doesn’t forget that Su Rui also changing Huo Yan perspective about love, so he being single for a long time before starting new love journey really nice to read.

    1. This is one of my favorite novel I have ever read. After long chapter of fun and comedy, it was all of a sudden full of serious matters. Reallty the side stories were not enough especially the relationship of the brothers but I know when to be contented. So, I’m very happy that you have translated this. You’re the best!

  2. Lmao, and here I thought that huo yan would be forever single or just be with his love the cat from that one timeline.

  3. Wonderful novel ! I binged reading this novel in 4 days. I lauhghed, I cried. Thank you for translating this novel 😍 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

  4. I fully understand Huo Yan though. As someone who had been betrayed and heartbroken, our views of love wasn’t that we don’t believe in it. It’s not that we reject love, but we just don’t believe that that kind of love would come to us. We don’t believe that we could love another person again, and spending energy in getting to know and trust a new person again is truly exhausting and oftentimes felt it’s not worth it. It isn’t as if we have to have a partner to live well anyways. So those jabs of us being single could tire us out more and even make us more reluctant to find love. I actually love that Huo Yan’s story was open ending and the title isn’t even ‘Huo Yan x Feng Rui’, but ‘Huo Yan’s Story’, because Huo Yan’s love journey would be long and the ending unseen, as he had to learn how to trust other people and open up his heart again.
