PE Ch38.1: Xiao Pan ran away, right?
The car sped down the highway, Jody not daring to breathe loudly.
After a while, he spoke, “A car is following us.”
Pan Yinchuan looked back at the familiar armored car.
“Mr. Huai isn’t trying to take you back, is he?” Jody got even more nervous. “What you said just now was really a bit too much…”
Pan Yinchuan was puzzled, “How was it too much?”
“Mr. Huai lowered his stance so much in front of everyone, saying if there was anything wrong, he was willing to change for you… and you said you’re straight.”
“What’s wrong with that?” Pan Yinchuan was confused. “I meant I have no grievances against him, he didn’t do anything wrong, the problem is with me. So why would he be angry? If I really listed out a bunch of his problems, wouldn’t he be even angrier?”
Jody was stumped by the question.
Thinking about it like that, it did seem reasonable.
It’s like your boss kindly asks you, ‘Xiao Qiao, if you have any dissatisfaction with the company, feel free to speak up.’
Would you speak up?
Who would be so foolish!
When resigning, you’d definitely say it’s because your personal goals don’t align with the company!
Jody observed for a while longer, then sighed in relief, “That car… seems to just be escorting us.”
“Yeah.” Pan Yinchuan’s attention had already shifted. He first searched Yu Jianan’s name online.
He found phrases like “buried at sea,” “10 kilograms of explosives,” “gene editor destroyed,” and “central city official dealt with.”
He stared at the phrase “buried at sea” for a while, then couldn’t help but sigh lightly. Yu Jianan’s fake death before was staged as drowning, and now he really died in the water.
What was the point?
Pan Yinchuan closed the webpage and immediately called his parents.
The first call didn’t go through.
Pan Yinchuan called again.
“Give them the phone.” Huai Yu said as he pressed the black button in front of him. The conversation from the car abruptly stopped.
“You’re not listening anymore?” someone beside him asked.
Huai Yu’s face was expressionless as he said, “Make sure the car behind follows closely and nothing goes wrong.”
“Yes, sir.”
At that moment in Jiuhe City, the Wang couple had just landed not long ago.
They still didn’t understand why they were being sent home so quickly. It seemed like taking them away before had nothing to do with the gene editing experiment.
It was just to… protect them?
Now that the situation had stabilized, they were naturally sent back.
“This street looks so unfamiliar,” Pan Yueshan murmured, then suddenly heard a familiar ringtone.
Their phones had always been kept by the people watching them.
If they wanted to call their son, it had to be through their special line.
Now the ringtone was suddenly ringing, and Pan Yueshan wasn’t sure if he should take his phone back. Or if he could.
They just listened as the ringtone went off once.
When it rang again, the person who brought them back received a call, responded, “Got it.”
Then turned to them and handed their phones back.
“Answer it,” the person said.
Wang Xiu looked down.
It was a call from their son.
“Hello,” Wang Xiu answered the call.
“You scared me, you and Dad didn’t answer for a while, I thought something happened. Where are you now?” Pan Yinchuan’s tone was much more relaxed.
Wang Xiu smiled, “If you had called a bit later, your dad and I would be inside the house.”
“You’re home?” Pan Yinchuan couldn’t hide his happiness.
“Yes, we’re home.” Wang Xiu had a sudden thought and asked, “Are you coming home too?”
“Yes!”
“Your dad and I will wait for you.”
“Okay!”
Pan Yinchuan hung up the phone happily and smacked his lips, saying, “Mr. Huai is actually a nice person.”
Jody shook his head upon hearing this: “You should have said that in front of Mr. Huai just now. His expression wouldn’t have been so ugly then.”
“Really?”
Jody thought for a moment and realized it wasn’t right either.
Saying someone is nice and then immediately saying you’re straight is like giving them a “nice guy card.” It seems… even worse?
Jody couldn’t figure it out.
But the car safely arrived at the airport.
Pan Yinchuan bought his ticket and boarded the plane without any issues.
Jody, having completed his task, turned to leave, only to run into bodyguards getting out of the armored car.
“You don’t need to return to the manor. Your salary and benefits have been settled and transferred to your account,” the bodyguard said succinctly.
Now that the situation was stable, Jody’s family was safe too. He wanted to argue for himself because such high-paying jobs weren’t easy to find.
“Mr. Huai doesn’t need me anymore? Maybe…” The next lover might need a coach too?
The bodyguard looked at him, “Mr. Huai doesn’t want to see you.”
Jody’s face turned pale, right, he was the one who “almost” put a green hat on Mr. Huai!
Thinking this way, was Mr. Huai testing them by sending him to the airport with Pan Yinchuan? Jody shivered and quickly left.
The manor soon returned to an empty state.
Huai Yu had also left.
“I heard you went back to Central City. How did you return so quickly?” Assistant Zhang hurried through the door, looking at the Alpha sitting on the sofa.
“Yan Xue couldn’t control the situation,” Huai Yu brushed it off lightly.
But Assistant Zhang, being very perceptive, noticed something was wrong at a glance and asked, “Did Mr. Pan come with you?”
“He went home.”
“Went home?” Assistant Zhang’s voice raised an octave.
“The contract expired.”
“Expired…” Assistant Zhang slapped his own forehead, “How could I forget? Yes, it was time. Couldn’t it be renewed? No, not renewed. Or maybe you want to establish another kind of relationship?”
Huai Yu lifted his eyelids slightly, his tone flat, “He doesn’t want to.”
Three short words hit Assistant Zhang like a hammer, leaving him stunned.
The room fell into silence.
At this moment, someone knocked on the door, and Assistant Zhang’s voice returned: “How could he not want to? Why wouldn’t he want to?”
Assistant Zhang couldn’t understand Pan Yinchuan’s reason for refusing.
“He’s straight.”
“I…” Assistant Zhang was stunned, opening his mouth but unable to say anything.
At the beginning, no one thought to ask about Pan Yinchuan’s orientation because it simply wasn’t important.
The deeply ingrained indifference of an Alpha with high status and power eventually turned into a boomerang, hitting himself.
“Sir, Major Yan wants to see you,” the person knocking on the door said softly.
Huai Yu’s expression was indifferent, “In half an hour.”
“Understood.” The person outside slowly walked away, and Assistant Zhang found his voice again, “You could easily have kept him. Is it because you didn’t want to?”
Huai Yu looked up, “He was very angry.”
“He was… angry?” Assistant Zhang thought he had misheard.
Huai Yu broke the pen in his hand but kept his tone steady, “When he realized I didn’t plan to let him go, he almost died of anger.”
Assistant Zhang was speechless.
Such a big temper?
It never showed before!
The first time he was slept with, didn’t it just pass like that?
Assistant Zhang, also an Alpha from a good family, had never encountered such a logical shock in his twenty-something years.
He opened his mouth a few times but finally only said, “Do you need me to find a Beta similar to Mr. Pan for you?”
It’s not difficult; using Central City’s big data, they could quickly lock onto a target.
“No need.” Huai Yu threw the broken pen into the trash, “Maybe Yu Jianan wasn’t wrong. My feelings for Pan Yinchuan aren’t that deep, just an Alpha’s possessive instinct.”
Assistant Zhang dared not respond.
Half an hour later, Yan Xue met Huai Yu in the reception room.
“You’ve had a hard time,” Yan Xue couldn’t help but sigh as he looked at him.
Huai Yu sat on the sofa, skipping the pleasantries, and started discussing the handling of matters in Central City with Yan Xue.
They talked for nearly three hours.
Yan Xue suddenly asked, “What time is it?”
The secretary nearby looked at his watch and said, “Almost ten o’clock.”
Yan Xue jumped up, “So late?”
Assistant Zhang joked, “What’s wrong? Did you forget to turn off the stove when you left, Major Yan?”
Yan Xue said, “Oh, it’s my partner. If I don’t call, he’ll make dinner and wait for me until midnight.”
Assistant Zhang felt the tone was a bit smug and instinctively glanced at Huai Yu.
Huai Yu’s expression was unchanged, and he even asked, “Your partner?”
Yan Xue said, “Ah, an Omega. Originally kept as a little lover, but unexpectedly, he’s quite thoughtful, has a good temper, is clingy, and considerate. After a while, I started to develop some feelings. Thinking about settling down…”
Assistant Zhang: “…”
Every word seemed to repeatedly poke at Mr. Huai’s sore spot.
“Do you want to call your lover?” Huai Yu asked indifferently.
“Yes, just to tell him I’ll be late and not to wait.”
“You know today’s conversation is very confidential, right?”
“I know…”
“You can’t make a call,” Huai Yu said.
The rest of Yan Xue’s words were swallowed back. “Alright, alright then, he’ll just have to wait for me until midnight.”
They chatted for another half hour, but Huai Yu had other matters to attend to, so he left early.
Yan Xue stood up to leave, but was stopped by Assistant Zhang.
Assistant Zhang rubbed his nose and said, “Major Yan, sir said you can’t leave until you come up with the new garrison plan.”
Yan Xue: ?
Yan Xue, who had spent most of the evening there, finally realized, “Your Mr. Huai is jealous of me, isn’t he? Jealous that I have someone waiting for me? Someone to warm the bed? And cook for me? Someone considerate and clingy?”
Assistant Zhang smiled, “How could that be?”
“No, wait a minute, what about that Xiao Pan? I remember Mr. Huai took him to Ros State. What happened after that?”
Assistant Zhang sighed softly, “Major Yan, your little lover might have to wait another two or three days for you.”
Yan Xue: “…”
Yan Xue: “Did Xiao Pan run away? No, how could he let a little lover run away? If he did run away, it wouldn’t matter. The little Qin I sent to Mr. Huai before is still thinking about warming Mr. Huai’s bed. Why don’t I call now and have little Qin sent over?”
Assistant Zhang: “It will take four or five more days.”
Yan Xue: “…”
Yan Xue: “Damn, I didn’t say anything. Secretary! Don’t record that profanity.”
Assistant Zhang: “Seven or eight days.”
Yan Xue made a gesture to keep quiet and buried his head in working on the new plan.
Yan Xue really spent seven days in the office before returning home.
“Have you waited long?” Yan Xue hugged the Omega boy as soon as he walked in.
The boy’s face was tender, making him look soft.
It was Lin Shaoyan from before.
Lin Shaoyan handed him a glass of orange juice, “Fortunately, it’s not my heat period.”
Yan Xue smiled and kissed him, saying, “If it were your heat period, I would have come back even if it offended Mr. Huai.”
“Keeping you in the central hall for so long means Mr. Huai values you.”
“He does, but this time it’s not because of that.”
“Then what happened?”
Xiao Pan ran away.
Those four words reached Yan Xue’s lips but were swallowed back. After all, Lin Shaoyan had been saved by Xiao Pan.
Alpha’s possessiveness instinctively made him not want to mention it again.
So he simplified it to: “Jealousy, envy, and hate.”
Lin Shaoyan showed a puzzled expression but didn’t ask further.
“I’m going to take a shower. I’ve been feeling filthy these past few days. I’ll hold you after that,” Yan Xue said as he turned and walked away.
The confusion on Lin Shaoyan’s face vanished instantly.
The position and power Huai Yu currently held were just a step away from the peak… Although Yan Xue was a renowned young general, he was still far from Huai Yu.
What did he have that was worth Huai Yu’s jealousy, envy, or hate?
Was it the fact that someone was waiting for him at home?
Considering Huai Yu’s actions in keeping him from going home for so many days—
Pan Yinchuan was no longer by Huai Yu’s side?
