Shen Bianye’s shoulder injury wasn’t serious. He didn’t think it was a big deal; it hurt a bit, but not enough to warrant hospitalization. He couldn’t sit still in the hospital, but at Xie Yuanxing’s strong insistence, he finally decided to stay overnight for observation. Shen Bianye felt it was a bit exaggerated, but at the same time, his heart softened. Xie Yuanxing cared about him, and that was more effective than any painkiller.
“Are you hungry?”
“I’ll go buy some late-night snacks for you? What do you want to eat?” Xie Yuanxing sat in a nearby chair, looking at Shen Bianye as he asked.
Shen Bianye helplessly replied, “Not hungry. You’ve asked three times, darling.”
“Calm down. I’m fine.”
Xie Yuanxing, however, suddenly stood up. “Then I’ll find a cup and get you some water.” Without waiting for Shen Bianye to stop him, he quickly walked out of the ward.
There were paper cups next to the hospital’s water dispenser. Xie Yuanxing pulled one out and pressed the hot water spout. The water flow made a dull thud against the bottom of the paper cup, and the person collecting the water gradually looked downcast. He was blaming himself, blaming his sudden whim today for causing Shen Bianye’s injury.
Xie Yuanxing got a little hot water, then added cold water. Holding the warm cup, he walked back to the ward. “Drink it? It’s warm.”
Shen Bianye didn’t take it, looking at him instead. He watched Xie Yuanxing purse his lips and lower his gaze, suddenly beginning to doubt whether Xie Yuanxing cared about him or was just feeling guilty that his injury was due to him. Shen Bianye clicked his tongue lightly, a bit annoyed. He reached out, but avoided the paper cup, instead placing his hand on Xie Yuanxing’s lips, playfully tapping them. “Darling, feed me, with this.”
Xie Yuanxing’s dark, clear eyes widened slightly, a flash of shame and struggle in them. Finally, he brought the paper cup to his mouth. He took a sip, holding the water in his mouth, his eyelashes trembling nervously, slowly approaching Shen Bianye. The latter didn’t shy away, seemingly waiting for his prey to deliver itself.
Xie Yuanxing actively leaned in, head tilted back, hands braced on the hospital bed. The moment their lips met, he instinctively clutched the bedsheet beneath his hands. The bedsheet crumpled into suggestive wrinkles, like a prelude to some intimacy. In reality, the one who initiated the kiss simply pressed his lips against Shen Bianye’s in a daze. Xie Yuanxing blinked in confusion, awkwardness, and helplessness. He wanted to say he wasn’t very good at this, but he didn’t dare open his mouth, afraid the water in his mouth would spill out.
He stiffened for half a minute, then awkwardly tried to pull back, but a hand suddenly pressed against the back of his neck, pulling him deeper into Shen Bianye’s embrace. Shen Bianye uninhibitedly invaded his warm, wet mouth, intertwining with the water and Xie Yuanxing in a deep kiss. He passionately kissed every part of Xie Yuanxing’s mouth, licking and teasing the soft, flustered tongue inside. His crimson tongue trembled with excitement, clinging to the tender, pink tongue like two entwined, caressing hot snakes, with the water serving as their lubricant. The kiss was so intense that Xie Yuanxing’s eyelashes fluttered. The warm, wet saliva, too much to swallow, flowed down the slightly parted corners of his lips, leaving them wet and glistening.
The tingling sensation from his tongue being licked was like an electric current coursing through every part of his body. Xie Yuanxing’s body became softer and softer, and he unconsciously let out a low moan, “Mmm…” This sound was like a switch. The already fervent kiss instantly became even more intense under Shen Bianye’s dominance. He kissed deeper and deeper, conquering with predatory fervor. Xie Yuanxing couldn’t handle it. His hand wanted to push against Shen Bianye’s shoulder to push him away, but as soon as he placed it there, he seemed to remember something and quickly pulled it back in alarm. Even though Shen Bianye’s injury was on his back, he didn’t dare to touch even his entire shoulder.
When he was finally released, Xie Yuanxing gasped for breath, his lips wet. Shen Bianye reached out to wipe them, his voice slightly hoarse, “Why are you so innocent, darling?”
“You don’t even know how to feed water mouth-to-mouth.”
Xie Yuanxing’s breaths were shallow and quick, like feathers brushing against his heart. “I haven’t kissed anyone else.” It was normal not to know how, right?
With that one sentence, Shen Bianye’s eyes darkened, tinged with a restless excitement and pleasure. Even though he had known this for a long time, hearing it from Xie Yuanxing’s mouth still gave him an irrepressible joy. But besides that, there was something else he wanted to know.
Shen Bianye pressed Xie Yuanxing’s slightly pouting lips, suggestively, intimately, and yet with a hint of danger, he asked: “Darling, are you being so obedient because of guilt?”
Xie Yuanxing nodded, his gaze falling on his shoulder, pursing his lips as if he couldn’t bear to look. Shen Bianye’s face instantly darkened, and he said coldly, “No guilt allowed!”
Xie Yuanxing hadn’t been yelled at by Shen Bianye like this in a long time. His fingers clenched helplessly, his gaze towards Shen Bianye showing a hint of pitifulness. “I know my regret is useless, I didn’t mean to gloss over it with a ‘guilty’ excuse, you… don’t be angry.”
“What am I angry about?”
“Darling,” Shen Bianye pulled him into his arms, gritting his teeth, “can’t you just let me kiss you because you feel sorry for me?”
“What’s guilt? It’s not your fault.”
For a moment, Xie Yuanxing wanted to pry open Shen Bianye’s head and see what was inside. He pushed Shen Bianye, but he didn’t budge. He simply changed to a less awkward position and curled up in Shen Bianye’s arms, muttering, “I’d only blame myself if I didn’t want to see you hurt.”
“Burns hurt a lot, I know.”
His thin short-sleeved shirt was pushed up, and the broad curve of fingers appeared on the fabric. The hand that had slipped in at some point caressed the scar on Xie Yuanxing’s right shoulder. The movement was very light, making Xie Yuanxing involuntarily flinch from the ticklish sensation.
Shen Bianye whispered, “If only I had met darling earlier.” He embraced Xie Yuanxing from behind, burying his head in Xie Yuanxing’s shoulder, his voice soft and serious: “I could have protected you, protected my Xingxing darling.”
Xie Yuanxing’s eyes suddenly welled up. He couldn’t say why, but it was strangely a little like crying. Not wanting Shen Bianye to notice, his voice was also light, “You’re protecting me now, aren’t you?”
“Does it hurt a lot?”
This was the third time he had asked Shen Bianye if it hurt. This time, Shen Bianye didn’t stubbornly say it didn’t hurt, but he also downplayed it. “A little, I guess.” He hugged Xie Yuanxing, swaying as if pouting, “No, it hurts too much. I want darling to sleep with me tonight.”
Xie Yuanxing hesitated, saying, “Your shoulder injury.”
Shen Bianye saw his chance and spared no effort: “The shoulder injury is on the back, darling won’t touch it sleeping in my arms.”
“Sleep with me, darling.”
“Darling, can you bear to see me sleeping alone in a gloomy hospital room tonight?”
“Darling can’t bear it, can you?”
“I’m very honest, darling, I’ll just hug you and sleep for one night.”
“Can I, darling? Please, darling.”
Xie Yuanxing had heard similar things before, but they were always from X, and mostly in text. Now, spoken directly from Shen Bianye’s mouth, with the speaker being so open about it, Xie Yuanxing’s ears inexplicably turned red.
The soft-hearted person couldn’t make a firm refusal. When he finally lay on the bed, Xie Yuanxing was still flustered. Shen Bianye, however, naturally hugged him to sleep, an intimately inseparable posture, as if encompassing his entire being. Xie Yuanxing was enveloped in Shen Bianye’s scent, and slowly, his stiff body relaxed.
The lights in the ward were turned off, leaving only a sliver of moonlight. The room was quiet; no one spoke, so quiet that only their breathing could be heard. Xie Yuanxing blinked, slowly closing his eyes, when Shen Bianye’s voice suddenly rang in his ear.
“Darling.”
“Can I kiss the birthmark on darling’s shoulder?”
Xie Yuanxing: “…Why?”
Shen Bianye cleared his throat, “Just, I kinda want to.”
Xie Yuanxing was silent. Shen Bianye’s hand had already been restlessly probing his back at some point. He continued to explain, “It’s probably because I just touched it.”
“I haven’t always wanted to kiss darling’s body.”
“Mainly, I just touched it, and then I thought of it.”
“Because it feels very tender, very soft, and darling is very sensitive when touched there, they’ll flinch, so cute.”
“I only wanted to kiss it after touching it. I really haven’t always wanted to kiss darling’s body.”
He spoke with extreme composure: “I don’t think it’s too abrupt, darling.”
Mainly, if he didn’t seize this opportunity while injured, he didn’t know when he’d get another chance to kiss him. He really… Shen Bianye swallowed with difficulty. He really wanted to kiss him.
The person in his arms rustled, pulling away. Shen Bianye panicked, grabbing Xie Yuanxing’s hand. “I was wrong, darling, I’ve actually wanted to kiss you for a long time, darling, no… Forget it, just pretend I didn’t say anything.”
The more he explained, the more mistakes he made. He wanted to say he hadn’t, but as soon as he opened his mouth, it became ironclad proof. By the end, Shen Bianye felt a sense of despair, like a broken pot being smashed.
Xie Yuanxing firmly pressed down the corners of his lips, suppressing a rising curve, and said, “If you’re kissing my back, shouldn’t you turn around?”
“Do you still want to pretend you didn’t say anything now?”
Shen Bianye’s grip on Xie Yuanxing’s hand tightened, then suddenly loosened. His tone was firm: “No.”
“I’m just craving darling.”
“Let me kiss you.”
Xie Yuanxing moved back a little further, turned around, and actively rolled up the hem of his short-sleeved shirt. “Don’t lift the blanket.”
Shen Bianye’s hand, which was pinching the blanket, let go.
It’s okay, he thought. Alpha’s vision is excellent. With just that small sliver of light from the opened gap, he could see skin as white as jade, beautiful, delicate, and the tender red mark on his right shoulder like a blooming, enchanting fireworks.
“Don’t touch anywhere else.”
“Only one kiss, no licking.”
Xie Yuanxing didn’t want to give these strange instructions, but they were in a hospital ward. He was still thinking if he had missed anything when his dark eyes suddenly widened. A wet sensation came from his right shoulder. The delicate new skin that had grown after the burn was incredibly sensitive. The tender flesh was heavily licked, like some rare delicacy, licked, sucked, and kissed by the person behind him. The scar was sensitive; every lick and suck was incredibly clear. Wet, scalding, the entire injured area seemed to burn, not with pain, but with a shocking heat, and an indescribable itch. Only a heavy lick of the tongue could relieve that tingling itch, but it was more like drinking poison to quench thirst; as the tongue left, the soothed area became even more frantically itchy.
Xie Yuanxing abruptly turned over. In the dim light of the bed, he stared wide-eyed and indignant at Shen Bianye. “I told you not to lick!”
“Are you a dog?”
Shen Bianye licked his lips, his tone strange: “Why is darling scolding me?”
“I was wrong, darling.”
Next time, I’ll still dare.
In the morning, the nurse came to apply medicine to Shen Bianye’s wound. The flesh and gauze were stuck together, making Xie Yuanxing hesitant to look closely. When he saw the wound on Shen Bianye, he always felt a faint ache in his own shoulder.
“I’ll go handle the discharge procedures.” With that, he hurried out of the ward.
Xie Yuanxing had been to this hospital several times before, so he wasn’t too surprised to run into Dr. Li near the payment and registration area. Xie Yuanxing greeted him, and Dr. Li, seeing the papers in his hand, casually asked, “What happened? Why are you hospitalized?”
Xie Yuanxing shook his head: “It’s not me. Shen Bianye got a little hurt yesterday.” He explained what happened. Dr. Li listened and sighed. “Xiao Ye’s luck is really bad.”
“His pheromone disorder means he doesn’t know how many years he has left to live. Heaven doesn’t favor him; it should at least let…”
“Wait.” Xie Yuanxing interrupted him, his brows tightly furrowed, his expression unusually serious. “What do you mean he doesn’t know how many years he has left to live?”
“His illness isn’t cured?”
Dr. Li was immediately surprised. “Didn’t he tell you?”
“Weren’t you involved in his treatment? How could you not know?”
Seeing that Xie Yuanxing truly didn’t know, Dr. Li initially didn’t want to say more, but under Xie Yuanxing’s pressing questions, he told him everything. Each word that fell into Xie Yuanxing’s ears was incredibly harsh. He didn’t know how he walked towards the ward. He only knew that he and Shen Bianye didn’t have much time left. He thought they had a long time, but now… time was running out.
Xie Yuanxing’s eyes uncontrollably welled up. In a daze, he went the wrong way. He closed his eyes, then turned to the restroom to wash his face. The water from the tap was icy cold, yet seemed mixed with a bit of warmth. He wiped his face dry with tissue paper, looked at himself in the mirror, his expression changing several times before he found a semblance of normalcy.
Shen Bianye didn’t want him to know, so he wouldn’t know.
Xie Yuanxing pretended to be normal as he continued walking towards the ward, his steps slow. Just as he reached the corridor, he saw Shen Bianye. In the corridor, the tall figure walked over, handsome and upright. His eyes lit up when he saw Xie Yuanxing. “Where did you run off to? Does it take this long to get discharged?”
For a moment, Xie Yuanxing’s nasal cavity suddenly stung. He didn’t know what to say, how to smile, or if his voice would remain normal if he spoke. Fortunately, a nurse rushed out of the ward behind him, holding something that interrupted them: “Is this your stuff? You left it in the ward.”
Xie Yuanxing saw what the nurse was holding and suddenly felt that such a rescue wasn’t so good, and also a bit ridiculous. He pulled at the corners of his lips, forcing a smile, and nodded as he took it. “It’s mine.” His voice was very soft; he didn’t know who he was talking to. “It’s a lucky doll blind box my friend gave me.”
Xie Yuanxing’s hand, holding the blind box, tightened for a moment. His throat felt constricted, almost unable to speak. What a terrible blind box. So deceptive. If he saw Shi Tingting next time, he would tell her she had been fooled. The doll inside the thin cardboard box might be exquisitely designed, but at this moment, Xie Yuanxing really, really, really wanted to throw it into the trash can.
Shen Bianye looked at him, frowning. “What’s wrong? Did you have trouble with the discharge procedures?”
Xie Yuanxing shook his head. “No.” Afraid Shen Bianye would notice something, he actively reached out, not avoiding others, and put his hand into Shen Bianye’s. “It’s all done. Shall we go?”
“I want to move back to the dorm.”
Xie Yuanxing had very few possessions, and he cherished every single one. Now, he just wanted to seize every day he could hold in his hand, seizing the sunlight that was uniquely his, falling on him. Before the sun set.
Shen Bianye turned his head to look at him in disbelief, a dreamy feeling like manna from heaven. “Really?”
If he had known that being sick or injured was so useful, he would have done what Zhou Chao suggested when he first brought it up. Being impolite or unethical wouldn’t be an issue anymore. If faking an illness could get his darling to move back in with him sooner, he didn’t need to be so moral.
Xie Yuanxing, with one hand held by Shen Bianye and the other holding the lucky blind box, nodded with crescent-shaped eyes. “Really.”
