Chapter 62: “Losing you, I am the real…”
“Actually, you don’t need to be so nervous.” Listening to this slow, methodical description, Lin Xi spoke as if he were discussing the most ordinary matter. “Yan Xingzhou, after all, you should have had your suspicions ever since you first found out I had returned, shouldn’t you?”
Yan Xingzhou did not answer.
In the depths of those profound eyes, inches away, it was as if an endless, howling storm was brewing, ready to completely devour the Lin Xi before him at any moment.
“You weren’t at the scene back then, but you should have guessed the general situation. Ever since I devoured that Special S-class contaminant, my ability fluctuations have been very unstable. After the sudden outbreak that day, I was basically on the verge of being completely out of control.”
Lin Xi’s words continued, “For an ability user of our level, I don’t need to elaborate on what happens once we completely lose control. The United Administration basically mobilized all its manpower to the scene at that time, but we were at a stalemate for a long time. Personally, of course, I didn’t want to die, but if the situation had continued to develop as it was, the final result would most likely have been—I would have completely lost my sanity.”
“But, a person like me would of course never be willing to become a puppet for that thing.”
Lin Xi slowly raised an eyebrow and let out a laugh. “So, I self-destructed.”
Recalling the scene from that year, Lin Xi still felt a bit emotional.
After all, not everyone could experience being surrounded and annihilated by the very subordinates they had personally promoted. It should have been a very sad affair, but what made him feel even more regretful was that it was one of these very people who had struck him from behind.
At the scene, he had seen Gu Beiqiu, seen Su Qiuyin, and seen many familiar faces. He could hear the voice in his mind constantly telling him that everyone at the scene should pay the price, but he refused.
He could not become a contaminant’s puppet.
He was just that rebellious.
Therefore, in the end, he chose a more extreme method in a sense—self-destruction.
Whether it was the person hiding behind the scenes or this contaminant coveting his body, he would not let either side gain a single advantage from him.
Yan Xingzhou: “So…”
Pinned to the bed, Lin Xi could clearly feel the heartbeat pressed against his body seem to quicken for a moment. He narrowed his eyes slightly, and the faint smile on his face finally, slowly faded.
He stared fixedly at the man before him, but every word that fell into his ears was like a sharp knife, cold and cruel. “There were so many people at the encirclement scene that year. It certainly wasn’t just an act. I’m not so capable as to fake my death right under their noses. So in a sense, ‘Lin Xi’ is indeed already dead.”
Yan Xingzhou’s eyelids lowered slightly, as if he were carefully discerning something. His fingertips traced over Lin Xi’s profile, inch by inch. His words seemed to be for Lin Xi, and also for himself. “But now, you are right in front of me.”
Lin Xi stared into Yan Xingzhou’s eyes. “The Yan Xingzhou I knew never seemed to be a self-deceiving person.”
Yan Xingzhou: “I only look at the final result.”
The two looked at each other in a brief silence. Lin Xi suddenly burst out laughing. “Even if the result you see is just a shell created by a contaminant that can’t even be called human?”
“Yes,” Yan Xingzhou replied. “As long as it’s you, that’s the result I want.”
The mocking smile that had just appeared on Lin Xi’s face froze slightly.
Although he had guessed this would be the answer, he had never expected that the man before him would answer so unhesitatingly.
It was as if these questions required no thought at all.
As expected, in certain aspects, one could not expect this man to have any rationality whatsoever.
For the first time, Lin Xi felt such an extremely conflicted emotion about something. On one hand, he was slightly relieved by Yan Xingzhou’s not-unexpected answer, but on the other hand, he couldn’t feel happy about such a result.
With his current identity, unconditionally choosing to stand with him forever would only have one outcome.
“Calamity is still inside my body.” After a long moment, Lin Xi spoke again. “The self-destruction last time didn’t completely eliminate it. It was also the one that created this brand new body for me, allowing us to coexist in this symbiotic way.”
Yan Xingzhou’s fingers silently caressed Lin Xi’s hair by his temples. “Mm.”
Lin Xi continued, “This new body was just completed not long ago and is still very weak. Including that siren, the contaminants that have been frequently appearing in N-City recently are probably after this. It’s clear that the internal world of the contaminants is not harmonious either. Before I possess an energy with absolute suppressive power, if there are no accidents, situations like this will only become more and more frequent around me.”
Lin Xi could feel Yan Xingzhou’s hand slowly move down from the edge of his cheek to the corner of his lips. After a brief silence, “Are you listening to me?”
“I’m listening.” Yan Xingzhou’s hand applied slight pressure on Lin Xi’s jaw. Under the upward force, a lingering kiss landed. “You continue.”
“…”
Lin Xi let out a low hum at the action, his voice softening. “It’s not just the contaminants. You should have also seen my ghostly appearance before. If I’m not mistaken, the action team should have also detected a situation where the contamination value went off the charts. Although I managed to muddle through the last few times without any real danger, I can’t guarantee… ugh, that I can continue to be so lucky in the future.”
In a moment, his lips were once again filled with the man’s familiar scent.
A long time after he finished speaking, Lin Xi finally heard Yan Xingzhou’s deep voice. “Most of the detection equipment currently on the market comes from the Wanyuan Group. I’ll contact the technical department in a bit and have them come up with a complete emergency strategy.”
Lin Xi’s lips were kissed by Yan Xingzhou again, their breaths intertwining, his voice gradually becoming a little hoarse. “President Yan is truly covering the sky with one hand… no wonder the United Administration is… more and more wary of you. It’s really hard on Gu Beiqiu for putting up with you for so many years. If it were me…”
“If it were you, both I and the Wanyuan Group would only be the gun in your hand.” Yan Xingzhou released him slightly, his expression revealing little emotion. “Of course, if you’re willing, it’s the same now.”
Their eyes met. After a long time, Lin Xi asked, “And if I say I don’t need it?”
The color of Yan Xingzhou’s eyes deepened slightly the moment the words fell. The pads of his fingers repeatedly caressed Lin Xi’s lips, which were a deep red after being kissed. After a long while, a faint, ambiguous smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. “I’ll make you need it.”
“…”
Lin Xi said, “Forcing a sale isn’t appropriate, is it, President Yan?”
Yan Xingzhou’s eyelids moved slowly.
As if trying hard to control his emotions, after a brief silence, he said, “No matter how inappropriate it is, it’s always better than being forced to go completely mad again.”
Lin Xi wanted to say something more, but all his words were completely blocked by the deep kiss that covered them again.
It was distinctly different from every passionate kiss before, and also different from the transmission of desire in the inner world of the rift. At this moment, Yan Xingzhou seemed to be trying his best to restrain something, and also as if he were venting. In just a short moment, Lin Xi’s breathing had become fragmented.
Yan Xingzhou finally began to respond to his previous words one by one. “Whether it’s the United Administration or the Research Institute, everyone who laid a hand on you must pay the price. I will do my best to cover up your contamination value situation. As for that contaminant inside your body, we will find a way to make it disappear completely sooner or later.”
His voice had been stretched to the extreme along with the tense curve of his body. Under his gradually heavy breathing, he finally straightened up slightly and met Lin Xi’s gaze fixedly. “In short, as long as you can stay where I can see you, other things… can definitely be resolved as much as possible.”
“As much as possible?” A brilliant light shone in Lin Xi’s mismatched pupils as they curved slightly. He looked at the man before him with a smile that was not quite a smile. “President Yan, I think I’ve made myself quite clear. The former Executor Lin Xi is already dead. And regardless of whether Calamity can be driven out of my body, with my current situation, my final destination will only be to become a thorough contaminant. Are you sure you’re not afraid of me, this monster? If I were you… ugh.”
Lin Xi’s attempt to get up was pushed back down again. Seemingly very dissatisfied with the content of his words, all of Yan Xingzhou’s actions at this time became more direct and rough.
A broken gasp was squeezed out from between his teeth. Just as Lin Xi was about to raise his eyes to glare, his lips were once again pried open by Yan Xingzhou’s tongue.
After a straightforward plunder that went straight in, he heard a low, hoarse voice emerge from between their entangled breaths. “Three years has been enough to prove that losing you, I am the real monster.”
With their bodies pressed tightly together, it was as if they could feel each other’s hearts skip half a beat at the same instant.
Only silence remained in the hotel room.
After the look in his eyes changed several times, Lin Xi suddenly let out a low laugh. “You really… I don’t even know who owes whom.”
As his words fell, he suddenly reached out and pulled off Yan Xingzhou’s tie. The moment he wrapped it around Yan Xingzhou’s wrist, with a sudden burst of strength, he flipped over and pressed the man directly under him.
Casually tying Yan Xingzhou’s wrist, which was wrapped in the tie, to the handle of the bedside cabinet, Lin Xi, now in control, looked at the man before him, his eyes narrowing slightly.
He loosened his own collar, which was already in complete disarray, his tone long and drawn out. “In that case, then please be the gun that I wield, my dear, President Yan.”
